#Repost @studyabroadireland with @get_repost ・・・ Day 2 of our @centralgatech program- in class we covered ancient Ireland & the first farmers, & everyone got their Irish name! Then we went to the deli to order our picnic food, and on to the Cavan Burren, an extraordinary landscape of ancient sacred & secular spaces, limestone sinkholes and sandstone erratics. First Stop - Loughcrew
Loughcrew or Lough Crew is an area of great historical importance near Oldcastle, County Meath, Ireland. It is home to a group of megalithic tombs dating back to the 4th millennium BC, which sit on top of a range of hills. The hills and tombs are together known as Slieve na Calliagh and are the highest point in Meath. It is deemed one of the four main passage tomb sites in Ireland and is a protected National Monument. The area is also home to the Loughcrew Estate, from which it is named.

Pre-Travel Thoughts
To me, traveling to a different country means getting to know another country. I love to travel to different places and learn about the cultures in that area. I have not done any travelling outside of the country, but I have travelled around the US quite a bit, from the capital to Austin, Texas. Therefore, this trip is extremely exciting to me, as it will be my first time outside of the country. That being said, it also causes a little nervousness. I am a very cautious person, so the thought of the plane going over that much water does scare me a little, but I know that that is an irrational fear and that there are safety measures in place to make sure that if something does happen, we should get out with minimal damage done to ourselves. Pre-Travel Thoughts
Travelling to a different country can yield many benefits. However, gaining different perspectives and increasing your breadth of knowledge are the most important benefits. Gaining different perspectives helps you to be a well-rounded person and makes it easier to see things from another person’s point of view. Additionally, the knowledge you can gain from travelling another country will stick with you for the rest of your life and is far more important than simple photographs or activities. Personally, I have never travelled outside of the country, yet I have travelled all across the United States to Oregon, California, New York, and almost everything in between. I am extremely excited for the opportunity to experience another country’s culture and learn as much as I can about it with my friends. I value knowledge above all else, and this trip appears to be an excellent opportunity to gain large amounts of it. I am slightly nervous about the fact that there was recent IRA activity in one of the areas that we plan to visit, but I am confident that it was an isolated event and that we will be secure for the duration of our stay. Pre-Travel Thoughts
Even though some people think that traveling to another country would be like a vacation, it is actually something else too, especially if they have never traveled outside of the country. Traveling to a different country, to me, means changing your world view and revealing there are different cultures and lifestyles than your own. A few years ago, I myself traveled to New York. Even though I was nervous at first, it was an interesting experience and it showed me a different way of how some people live out their lives. However, referring to our trip to Ireland, I am truly looking forward to the upcoming experience. I hope to see how the culture is set up and I also hope to learn about some of their history. This study abroad trip to Ireland will truly be a memorable moment to me and my classmates. DM
