(Please excuse the formatting. I am fighting against the Tumblr image limit right now.)
Anyway, in his final encounter in 15th anniversary, Lemres faces Rulue. While I’ve had to abbreviate this conversation for brevity, it is very obvious that he is totally glazing her up throughout this interaction and that Rulue is pretty into it.
That being said, I’d be remiss not to mention the fact that everyone seems to be glazing Rulue up in this game. (As they should.) This game moreso than any other SEGA game really does play up Rulue as something of a hot commodity. (Based, they should bring this back.)

However, even among the many exchanges Rulue has with other characters buttering her up, Lemres goes above and beyond in glazing Rulue. Also moreso than in any other interaction, Rulue is eating it up, and even reciprocating it. Granted, this interaction is fairly mundane, but by Puyo standards, this does feel quite romantically charged for not being a “love-stricken” scene. I might go so far as to say this scene could hint at mutual attraction.
While not really relevant to the central thesis of this post, I’d like to acknowledge this Gem from Lemres’s interaction with Schezo in the same game.
Tumblr media
While Lemres saying this was prompted by Schezo misspeaking, I do find it fascinating that Lemres doesn’t seem to want anything to do with Schezo in their initial interaction. I find this deeply fascinating because Schezo is seen as the default ship for Lemres, meanwhile I’m pretty sure I’m the only person in the world to create any content focused on Lemres’s relationship with Rulue, platonically or romantically.
I think the English speaking Puyo fandom would genuinely lose its entire shit if it actually knew/remembered that time Lemres canonically flirted with a woman.

Runelord is just Puyo Puyo Mima
- Dead sorcerer from the PC-98 era responsible for giving a main character most of their powers
- Said main character is twisted to villainy by the dead sorcerer’s wicked ways, though after being defeated, they would move on to becoming a main stay good(ish) guy
- Said sorcerer is not mentioned once in any capacity after the series migrates off of the PC-98 and yet is still a Fan Favorite character that is frequently referenced in fan works.

One of my favorite headcanons re: Madou/Puyo is that all of the Madou characters in Puyo are actually exactly as old as the series timeline would imply but they’re just all eternally youthful for a variety of reasons.
Yeah, it has been like 20 years since Madou Monogatari but Arle’s a god, Schezo’s a lich/corpse/dark mage thing, Rulue’s a vampire, Draco’s a dragon, Satan’s a Satan, Witch could conceivably have found a potion of eternal youth, and the nonhumans (Rilly, Harpy, Suke, Zoh, Nasu, etc.) likely just age slower.

Lord forbid women do ANYTHING.
death to rulue Raffina is better (sorta overexaggerated but i do kinda hate rulue and her purely Satan centric tendencies

I totally get this lol. I just wanna share my opinion on Rulue though because I really like her!!
I just really like a flawed, strong female character that's still feminine and silly. I feel like a lot of hate against her is because she is a girl, but maybe I'm wrong (obv not talking about you). I feel like the guys are just as annoying as her.

Fuck it, I’ll talk about this. Raffina and Klug do have similarities that are very interesting.
Both of them are constantly seeking to improve themselves by any means necessary, they’ve just chosen different routes by which to improve themselves. While Raffina focused on overcoming her innately weak magic by honing her martial arts prowess, and augmenting her magic with that magic stone I know the name of, Klug chose to become powerful by loaning magic from his demonbooken. Both of them have a lot to prove, and take their training super seriously. Despite both being very rigorous in their pursuit of improvement, neither seems to have any respect for the others’ field of study. Granted, neither really seems to have respect for any of their peers, and only seem to show respect to Accord, and their respective role models, Lemres and Rulue. (Actually, Raffina seems to respect Lemres quite a bit, and Klug… Maybe we don’t talk about his interactions with Rulue.)
One of the main differences between them that I’d like to highlight is that we see Klug’s research and efforts backfire. There’s a whole character (Strange Possessed Klug) that exclusively exists to demonstrate what happens when Klug’s research backfires. Very rarely do we see Raffina experience any adverse effects from her training, and honestly, I feel like it’s a missed opportunity. The strain that Raffina is putting on her body from such a rigorous workout routine could be a very fascinating concept to explore, but I don’t think SEGA has any interest in doing so. At least partially because Klug fans fucking dwarf us in numbers.
They’re a fascinating pair to look at side by side, I’m glad someone else has noticed that.
I think the similarities between klug and raffina are extremely interesting

Shout out to Schezo's closest friends! The people he can depend on the most!

Schezo really needs more positive human interaction in his life. (emphasis on 'POSITIVE' and 'HUMAN')

Puyo Puzzle pop is such a game but it’s kinda ass to control. The AI can play super fucking fast, and much of the time, you just can’t, because touch controls are hell on earth.

How does some Rulue's "spells" work? I understand that a good portion of them are techniques, her punches and kicks, but others seem magical in a way. A good portion of her moves have elemental properties, she has a few projectile attacks and her dances also seem a tad magical. I know gameplay wise it's for balance and variety but was there ever an explanation lore wise? Is it Ki, does she have magic but doesn't know it or is she just that Good that the universe let's her do whatever?
Compile games sometimes explicitely say that she attacks by converting the same energy others use for magic into Ki-attacks, yes.
That said, it's still super weird, because Madou R, the first game where she was playable, has her still drink booze to "replenish MP", same as Schezo and Arle, and while "booze=mana" is a common trope in JRPGs for some reason, it is hard to grasp how this translates to "being drunk gives you energy to punch".
Waku Puyo Dungeon and Madou Saturn also have her Ki-Attacks consume "MP", same as Schezo's and Arle's attacks, despite the lore treating it like it's a different thing somehow.
So yeah, it's probably a safe thing to assume that Rulue has found a way to convert magic energy to Ki despite having no affinity for magic herself. I am with Schezo when he says: The fact she can do that is scary tbh.
