Okay, now I'm curious about the opinions of the Donatellos for 03!Don. Do they respect him because he's the nicest of the Dons, because he's the oldest, because he is scary when he snaps?

They all respect him because he literally never starts any conflicts and is always the peacemaker in these situations. Also, they are very scared if they do upset him because three angry brothers will absolutely beat them up even if they make him marginally sad. It’s a mix of respect and “we will not live to see tomorrow if we make him cry” kinda deal.

This all stems from my hc that the 2003 bros are much more protective of Donny than each other due to the utter shit he had to go through in the series. I can imagine them hearing about his experiences, witnessing him turn into a monster, and learning that there’s a future where he disappears (and uh maybe gets stuffed based on the old script of SAINW) and that makes them all make it their number one mission to keep him safe. Not to mention he is also the weakest fighter - though still very good - it still drives that protective streak, especially in Raph.

Sure, Mikey is the youngest and he will also get some of that “protect the youngest” privilege, but I can see Mikey being fully serious when doing duo missions with Donny, something he never did before and still doesn’t with any of his other bros. Leo and Raph know Mikey, despite being the youngest, could demolish them in a fight. He’s manipulative, resourceful and a slippery shithead which bounces right back. But Donny is different - they all collectively watch his back in battle, don’t let him out alone, etc. They want to make sure he doesn’t suffer any more trauma no matter the cost. He’s too kind, and undeserving of all the horrors he has been subjected to. He still has that optimistic world view despite his intelligence and they want to protect that.

Yesterday I was watching the TMNT 2012 show when I noticed that all of Donnie’s machines are made of trash and random bits and bobs, which got me thinking. Rise Donnie literally tells his brothers “Why don’t you make your weapons out of high-grade titanium” (or something along those lines). Then I thought, where does Rise Donnie get the money for that stuff? Titanium is far from cheap and the equipment to turn it into something actually useful is even MORE expensive! I realize this is a children’s show but seriously, where’s all the money coming from!?
