One of my favorite holiday movies! Feeling pretty grateful for what I have these days.

“Merry Christmas, you wonderful old Building and Loan!”
I’ve been feeling pretty down about lots of little things going wrong lately - and one huge thing. My car’s engine is busted and the repairs meant I wasn’t going to get home for Christmas. I spent the last week being very sad and angry about that, but just in time to stop my full transformation into Scrooge, Toph & Charlie came through with my very own Christmas miracle and they’ve gotten me a ticket to Oregon!!!
I’m so happy I’m doing that overwhelmed cry-laugh thing. I feel as jubilant as good old George Bailey. I’m going to go outside and lasso the moon.

For those of you who get up in the morning and think what you wear doesn't matter at all:
What we wear can affect not only what people think of us, but also the way our brains work, a study involving a doctor’s coat shows.
I love when PW followers recommend reads to me! Thank you!

Dear Sam Edelman, Thank you for creating beautiful PW fashions! Without you, my closet would only contain 5 pairs of shoes.

“In fashion, it’s very much an evolution of an idea. Every season you want to make something that’s new and that someone likes. But the flip side of it is that it is an evolution of an idea.” - Kate Mulleavy

Sometimes a girl needs a bit of advice...
Has a guy ever sent you a text that left you stumped? Waiting to respond but afraid to ruin the progress you've made over the last week? I have hired a "doctor of love"! Since she has helped me so much in my endeavors I want to spread the knowledge.
Send your questions to my e-mail: [email protected] with your desired pen name and I will post Q&A's to the PW PROSE relaunch at the end of January!
As always followers, readers, and fans thanks for your support.

Someday PW Prose will be more than just re-posts of thought provoking finds from the blog-o-sphere, but until then…another find.

Proud to be a part of a generation of leaders not followers. Plus Portland happens to be the location inspiration for this piece!

Portland mentioned in this weeks NYT. Unfortunately, we made the news because we feel down and out about the Blazer season coming to a halt.
In N.B.A. cities that do not have N.F.L. or N.H.L. franchises, the basketball lockout is hurting businesses and fans.
I might need to go out for a bite at Spirit of '77 this week just for a little support!

Thirteen Observations made by Lemony Snicket while watching Occupy Wall Street from a Discreet Distance
Spent a lot of time in the Portland Financial District this weekend, and I couldn't help by notice the "occupy Portland" crowd. Although I am not entirely sure how camping out helps the cause I did think that it was a time for a PW moment. Here is a witty piece of prose submitted by a fellow PW follower that covers most of the issues...in a way I can wrap my head around!
See below...
by Lemony Snicket
1. If you work hard, and become successful, it does not necessarily mean you are successful because you worked hard, just as if you are tall with long hair it doesn’t mean you would be a midget if you were bald.
2. “Fortune” is a word for having a lot of money and for having a lot of luck, but that does not mean the word has two definitions.
3. Money is like a child—rarely unaccompanied. When it disappears, look to those who were supposed to be keeping an eye on it while you were at the grocery store. You might also look for someone who has a lot of extra children sitting around, with long, suspicious explanations for how they got there.
4. People who say money doesn’t matter are like people who say cake doesn’t matter—it’s probably because they’ve already had a few slices.
5. There may not be a reason to share your cake. It is, after all, yours. You probably baked it yourself, in an oven of your own construction with ingredients you harvested yourself. It may be possible to keep your entire cake while explaining to any nearby hungry people just how reasonable you are.
6. Nobody wants to fall into a safety net, because it means the structure in which they’ve been living is in a state of collapse and they have no choice but to tumble downwards. However, it beats the alternative.
7. Someone feeling wronged is like someone feeling thirsty. Don’t tell them they aren’t. Sit with them and have a drink.
8. Don’t ask yourself if something is fair. Ask someone else—a stranger in the street, for example.
9. People gathering in the streets feeling wronged tend to be loud, as it is difficult to make oneself heard on the other side of an impressive edifice.
10. It is not always the job of people shouting outside impressive buildings to solve problems. It is often the job of the people inside, who have paper, pens, desks, and an impressive view.
11. Historically, a story about people inside impressive buildings ignoring or even taunting people standing outside shouting at them turns out to be a story with an unhappy ending.
12. If you have a large crowd shouting outside your building, there might not be room for a safety net if you’re the one tumbling down when it collapses.
13. 99 percent is a very large percentage. For instance, easily 99 percent of people want a roof over their heads, food on their tables, and the occasional slice of cake for dessert. Surely an arrangement can be made with that niggling 1 percent who disagree.

Beginning of PW Prose!
Hey followers! You've probably been wondering what on earth I have done with the page over the past week. Well there are too many observations to contain in one section titled "fashion" so I had to expand into other realms.
The PW needs a bit of rounding out. Yes, she loves fashion as much as any other girl, but she can't live off Vogue alone. My mission in PW Prose is to seek out the inspiring and thought-provoking of used books. One book a month. Commentary throughout.
PW would love to read more than one a month, but with the Elle, Vogue, IN Style, Harper's Bazaar & Portland Monthly it is hard to squeeze in much more. If you're reading something that you can't put down...tell me! I'm starting with The Happiness Project. No, not a self-help book. I only own one and it's a compilation of short stories by Lorrie Moore.
