I love the details behind this movie. Nothing wigs me out more.

This site hosts a very detailed, illustrated analysis of some of the creepier elements of The Shining, such as: - The impossible hotel layout - Mirror symbolism (actual mirrors, symmetrical shots, twins, foreshadowing) - How furniture subtly but deliberately moves around between shots - Other Symbolism (doors, cartoons, fairytales, colors)

From the documentary Room 237, examples of how each of the famous Steadicam sequences of Danny on the tricycle sequentially break down our frame of reference in understanding the layout of the Overlook.

In the first sequence, Danny makes a complete rectangle of the first floor.

On the second sequence, when we first see Room 237, he’s supposedly just up one level, but the direction is askew and disproportionate to the layout below.

On the third sequence (gifs 3 & 4), Danny rounds a corner and is suddenly on a completely different floor. 

The sequences subtly disorient us and contribute to making the Overlook feel as though it is multi-dimensional and impossible.

Homestuck breaks 1.2mil words

Amidst all the excitement of 4/13, and the end of the MICROTERAPAUSE, and Caliborn’s claymation Vines, I feel that we can’t forget something HUGE that just happened.

Homestuck, given its format, can’t have its word count measured by conventional means. That’s why some very smart folks designed an “adjusted word count” that more accurately counts by converting images and gifs and flashes into the neural-processing equivalent.

According to that, with tonight’s upd8, and the beginning of Act 6 Act 6 Act 5, Homestuck is currently at 1,201,136 words.

According to Wikipedia’s List of Longest Novels (in all languages), Homestuck would be in the #2 spot, and it’s quickly approaching #1.
