More GW2 art!! Let me introduce you to professor Yakkey!

I've only ever really focused on Enn (my main, reaper) and I decided I wanted to try another class properly, so I went for engineer cuz it sounded hard but fun cuz, you know, guns. So I made my lil asura (because of course he's an asura) and started playing around.

And then my mind started wondering, adding him to Enn's story, headcanoning a bunch of stuff and then I feel in love with my new lil angsty rat. I LOVE HIM SO MUCH AAAAAAAAAAA

I'm only just finishing LWS2 with him, so there's still a lot to do story-wise for him, but it's so very fun!

I keep sketching him everywhere so I wanted to make a proper drawing of him and when I was taking screenshots for references he looked so angry and funny that I used that as a base for this drawing lmao.

Anyway quick, short intro for anyone who cares: Yakkey specializes in biomedical engineering and, even more specifically, in making prosthetics look as close to the limbs they're replacing as possible.

He's a doctor, but people call him professor because that's what his krewe calls him. It kind of started as a joke, but it just stuck.

He's a Magister for the Durmand Priory and could potentially go even higher, but he isn't as interested in that at the moment.

And some small headcanons:

He got the scar on his face from a rogue golem back in college.

His eyes are sensitive, so he wears glasses most of the time.

His eyes also look strange so people tend to stare, which he hates, so, again, glasses.

He's gay af and has a situationship 👀 going on with Canach. Why? Because I say so.

Asura Name Guide

Impotant note: if you want a name that can be used in-game, remember that the character limit is 19, spaces included!

Here's the in-depth step by step guide for creating lore-friendly asuran names:

Keysmash!

Play around with the result!

Keep the single name to 1 or 2 syllables!

Double letters are encouraged!

Check Wiktionary!!! (to make sure it doesn't have any accidental meaning you don't like)

Make it unique by adding a title, krewe name, honorific or whatever you like!

Alt versions for step 1 1a. Use Guild Wars 2 Name Generator to get starting ideas! 1b. Pick a word or name you like! 1c. Pick a random word!

On a more serious note, here's the info we have, taken from the Asura page on the GW2 Wiki

An asura's name often consists of a short, sharp first name with one or two syllables. Feminine asura names typically end in -i or -a vowel sounds, but are not required to do so. Masculine names often end in a consonant sound. Both male and female asura often have two of the same letter in a row somewhere in their name, this being a cultural norm, but it is certainly not required. Asura do not have a last name, instead opting to use job titles, a krewe name, or honorifics to differentiate themselves. Those who choose to take a last name of a style similar to humans are rare and are considered eccentrics, and their surname is often ignored by other asura.

To recap: • Short and sharp names made of 1 or 2 syllables (there are very rare exceptions with 3, like Batanga, Belanna, Edella, Jordekka, Ikkita, Nicarus, Maroola, Viraddi, Rowloona, etc) • The indicated norms for gendered names are usually respected (most female asura's names end with -a/-i vowel sounds, and most male ones end with consonant sounds), but absolutely not mandatory (Kudu, Zee, Gyra are male asura, while Trixx, Blinx, Mordd are female asura). • Having 2 of the same letters in a row (Snaff, Zojja, Arkk, Gorrik) is culturally encouraged, but not required (Taimi, Blish, Phlunt, Ludo). • Job titles, krewe names, honorifics and whatever else are the way to go to make the name unique (and let's be real, good luck finding an available short name in-game). • Human-like last names are seen as weird (I can't find any in-game, but word of god mentions them).

Last-minute Addition

There is one case (that I found) of an asura with two names, Davo Zes, a Collector of Unusual Coins in Bava Nisos's starting area. However, given he appeared so recently and is likely a member of the Astral Ward, his name is probably a quirky exception and does not signify much for asuran naming schemes as a whole.

The only other double-named asura is in Gw1, Gni Neproc. For all we know, one of the two words could be a title in asuran, but objectively it was just a reference to one of the devs.

Welcome, one and all, to the Monthly Multi-Krewe Mixer, sponsored by the three esteemed colleges of Rata Sum!

Taking place in a lovely space in Soren Draa, this mixer - sponsored by the deans of the three colleges of Rata Sum - invites asura of all krewes (and megakrewes) to a social mixer to make friends, network, and more. With a strict "no recruiting" policy, the hope is for asura of all ages collegiate and up to make connections that will benefit them moving forward in life.

This event is being held by the [RATA] Guild! Location details and rules below the cut!

Rules

As this is an "all krewes" event, there is to be no recruiting. This is for interpersonal networking as opposed to recruiting for krewes.

No asura supremacy, asura master race, etc jokes. We know the origin of those.

This is an all-ages players event, but alcohol may come up. Keep it clean with everything else.

No phobes in general- [RATA] is an LGBTQIA+ friendly guild and that behavior won't be tolerated.

Please leave OOC conflict at the door. If you have an issue with someone present, please don't bring it public as long as they are not actively harassing you.

Above all, have fun! This even will last 2-3 hours depending on attendance, and host will bring feasts and drinks.

Lieutenant Pyjax

A childhood friend of Khialli and her college crush, Pyjax was a gangly teenager in his college years who grew until the tough young man he is now. He's a popular member of the Peacemakers and looks to be making a good name for himself, with the same drive to succeed that had seen his grandmother become head of the Arcane Eye before her sudden disappearance.

And it's her death in the short month after the Thaumanova disaster that drove him to greater heights, with hopes of climbing the ranks to uncover the secrets of what really happened to the woman who raised him to the man he is.

Of course, running into his old sweetheart may throw a kink in those plans, especially since he has no idea what she's been up to since the last time they saw each other.
