You know how there's that dangling plot thread about the Emperor's lost chambers in Canaan House in Harrow the Ninth? I was browsing Harrow for another, unrelated post and this stopped me dead in my tracks:
So I immediately searched for “broom” in Gideon the Ninth, and
… Well, that says nothing really, though it's kinda funny that Canaan is an inversion of the Mithraeum.
… What about Nona?
So I guess none of this is meant to be foreshadowing of anything, but today we learnt that Tamsyn has mentioned broom cupboards once per book, which is a funny coincidence unless here actually is a reveal somewhere in Alecto and she's just planted the phrase throughout to spook us in future readings.
… Maybe I should go think about something else.
(*pacing back and forth* I still think Abigail's “alongside” coment implies God's chambers are isolated from the restof the building and require entry through the River… it's “alongside” this dimension…)

So in Ntn Camilla asks: “Warden—will she know who we are, in the River?” And I am obsessed with what this line says about Camilla. Cam is loving (see her interactions with Nona and Pyrrah, her ferocious search for her sister) and kind (she takes the knives from Jeannemary and Isaac, she shares her food with Gideon) but she is also stubborn and singleminded and even brusque to the point of being quite abrasive. When Harrow tells her Palamedes can’t have lasted this long she simply reiterates that he has. When Pyrrah tells her to stop, she ignores her. When she thinks her fathers won’t get Paul, she simply doesn’t invite them to her death/ascencion.
The ONLY hesitation she shows (in the entire series, not just about Paul), the only concern she expresses, is for Dulcinea, “will she know who we are, in the river?” To me this shows so much love and care and even vulnerability. She wants to see Dulcinea. She plans on meeting her someday after death. She does not fear the disappearance of herself unless it means Dulcinea won’t know her. Sometimes the Dulcinea relationship get portrayed as ‘Palamedes was in love with her and Camilla was on the side/a third wheel/possibly even annoyed or left out” but to me this line obliterates that. Cam is not a gushy person, but she must love Dulcie so much. Hers is the only concern she acknowledges.
Long story short, Cam may not be expressive, but never let it be said she doesn’t love Dulcinea Septimus.

how does one develop discipline in the first place. it seems like discipline requires initial discipline to develop. it's a paradox.

pro-AI posts blowing up on here out tha blue. im convinced they’re psyops. ive seen two on my dash already. and all they had to do was be sarcastic.
like cool generative AI isnt worse for the environment than other things. i still think its a sign of an anti-intellectual, uncritical, anti-creative, cognitively lazy general public fit for fascist government. now fuck off.
there’s a reason trump’s “big beautiful bill” bans states from regulating AI for ten years. you guys piss me off so bad.
#generative ai#ai#trump’s gov working overtime to peddle pro-AI propaganda and i see tumblr users whose takes i generally respect reblogging that shit#where’s that one ‘you’re not immune to propaganda’ meme#everytime you see things you have to ask yourself ‘who benefits from this narrative?’#who benefits from the narrative that generative ai isnt more or less environmentally harmful than other internet activities?#is it workers?#the writers who were striking in part to oppose the use of generative ai?#or is it mega corps who’d like to automate as much as they can so they dont have to fairly compensate people for their labor?

This. This feels like a central theme of TLT that goes underrated (and one of the reasons that Alecto probably isn’t going to be about defeating God). You cannot prioritize both revenge and healing. When it comes time to choose you need to pick anabolism. You have to choose to live.
John wasn’t a Bad Guy all along, he was a furious, brilliant man who saw a horrible injustice wrought and did his best to stop it. Under other circumstances, he’s the kind of guy who’d work himself to the bone to cure cancer or stop global warming. Unfortunately he also had a vengeful streak a mile wide and when it came down to it he quite literally chose Eat the Rich over Save the Poor. His villainous meltdown happened ten thousand years ago and now he’s just having a sad little self destructive spiral, slowly collapsing like an old star. He’s the villain but not the main obstacle.
The main obstacle is that the Earth is trapped in a fully articulated body, the solar system is undead, the path to the afterlife is clogged. It’s an environmentalist plot, the solution is going to be fixing the environment! Prioritizing that, instead of punishing the pathetic whinging instigator of the apocalypse is, I suspect, going to be one of the main goals and conflicts of AtN. Because as easy as it is to punch God, that’ll only solve one of your problems (the problem is that God is not currently being punched).
#id only skimmed this when i first reblogged#but yes tysm#this is the sort of thoughtful meta i truly miss from tlt fandom c. 2022#a part of me cringes everytime i see ppl here blogging abt how they’re so excited to see john get killed in ATN#and its like d-did we read the same books?#ppl are so used to shallow media where theres a big bad and the big bad gets punished#and its like tamsyn does not write characters to punish them#lets explore the human condition w/ mama#forgiveness devotion love rage grief healing these are the themes of tlt not punishment :/
