evangelicals being like "god made men to do This and be like This and women to do That and be like That that's just how it is" and it's just a picture of a white man and woman following traditional gender norms makes me so insane like you boring fascist fucks. god made 2 million species of beetles. god made whales, ducks, humans, and 1500 other species capable of same sex behavior. god made fish and amphibians that change sexes. god made more than 30 different intersex variations in human beings. god, in his infinite curiosity. wake up!!! fuck!!

Hot take but I really do think that some of y’all need to consider how/why/when/how often you’re making fun of straight people for being straight
I do it too, I’m not going to pretend I don’t make jokes about the hets, or the down with cis bus, or whatever
But I recently befriended a cis, straight dude and I have watched him be dismissed, degraded, and unambiguously insulted for the perceived “crime” of being straight — all in queer environments where he is allegedly “completely welcome” and surrounded by “friends”
This guy is not a toxic person! But I have seen him be made to feel so small and like his comfort and safety in those spaces are conditional on his silence and acceptance of being treated like a human dunk zone, and I think that some of y’all have had so much shit from straight/cis people that the second you feel like you’ve got an inch, you want to luxuriate in the perceived catharsis of bullying someone who— actually —doesn’t deserve it
And until he very, very carefully mentioned to me in private that it makes him feel bad, I didn’t even clock that I was involved in doing that, that it had become so instinctive for me to make casual jokes like that, and that— well meaning or otherwise —I had been contributing to an environment that made someone I really really like feel like shit
So, I dunno, I think maybe some of y’all should think about that too

As a society we have benefited so much from successful public health measures that we now have the privilege of declaring that we must not need them anymore
Bitch before enriched flour, neural tube defects like spina bifida were far more common. Even now, spina bifida clinicians and researchers are begging to have salt and maize fortified to reach groups that don’t use as much flour. Before iodized salt, the United States had a fucking GOITER BELT. Eleven years after the introduction of fluoridated water, a city in Michigan found the rate of dental caries among school children dropped a staggering 60%— in an era where tooth decay regularly fucking killed people
I’m literally not even going to start on vaccines, which are among the most successful and robustly studied public health measures in world history
You might say “oh well today we all have access to vitamins and toothpastes and dentists so we don’t need those things in our food supplies” and boy do white people on social media loooove to fucking say that. But here’s the thing: no, people don’t all have easy access to those things. That’s privilege talking yet again

The real thing with ADHD is not "I forgot", but that forgetting is this ongoing process. I remembered! And then I forgot.
At ten this (hypothetical) morning I remembered that I have a meeting at six. And then from 11 through 3 I worked on other stuff and had zero thoughts about that meeting. Maybe even thought about what I was gonna do with my evening at home. Got attached to the idea of taking the time to make a good dinner, maybe play some video games.
And then at three I said, "Oh! Fuck!" and remembered again, hopefully long enough to set an alarm. And then I went to the bathroom and remembered that I need to clean the counter and spent twenty minutes cleaning the bathroom and went to get a snack and then at five I said, "OH! FUCK!" and had to scramble to dress like a real adult and get out the door.
It isn't one clean forgetting. It's a constant process of forgetting and then, with an exhausting adrenaline spike, remembering. And then forgetting. Baby, I can forget the same thing more times in a day than you ever forgot your parents' anniversary.
#this is absolutely how it goes#adhd#it's exhausting#i love the pattern recognition and the way it supercharges things like birding but my goodness the memory issues are ridiculous#menopause has only made things even more ridiculous. the brain fog is UNREAL. thick as pitch.#i am back to using sharpie on my palm because at least I can't forget my dang hand

I really think this moment was inevitable ever since everyone (but the 75 million Harris voters <3) fucked up in November. This pig never had a “mandate” with an election decided by a point and a half, he openly campaigned on being a fascist, and the people who hate him REALLY hate him. Of course a large, notable protest was going to happen sooner or later, and of course this weak bully and his gaggle of lunatics were going to freak out and try to scare people into submission. This has been in the making for a while. I know even bringing this up will make certain people mad, but Joe Biden was right when he said in 2017 that we’re in a battle for the soul of the nation; the battle isn’t over because too many people were selfish assholes in November, and I’ll never stop being mad about that. But the battle isn’t lost.
I’m not saying Trump’s illegal response is good, I’m saying that people protesting his inhumane immigration policies, the key to his whole administration, is good. People should be protesting this. After every pundit and poaster said Democrats should throw immigrants to the wolves after November, it’s nice to instead see how many people are willing to go out into the streets and shame ICE to their faces. The administration is having this absurd and illegal response because they’re losing. They’re losing in court, they’re losing the trade war they chose to start, and they’re losing public opinion, with Trump’s approval having been underwater for several weeks now.
I don’t know how this ends. It feels similar to the summer of 2020, but that was the end of Trump’s term. We’re halfway through 2025. It feels unsustainable at this level. Things are scary because they want you to be scared, but remember how scared they are:

#don't worry if you can't protest for whatever reason (being scared is a valid one!)#there are so many ways to help behind the front lines#and still more ways to help from home#you're a support instead of a tank and that's good and necessary!#this is effectively a siege and supports are absolutely critical in winning such a fight. logistics and morale are foundational.#this administration wants you to forget that. they want you to think the flashy stuff is the whole fight.#the flashy illegal terrifying stuff is the giveaway that they're weak. they cannot win by legitimate means#and as long as the opposition retains even a single iota of morale their agenda is at risk.#they know very well that every day we are still here is a day they have lost-- it's time resources & energy they will never get back.#we don't even need to be hypervisible to do it.#we just have to keep being us and surviving. that's it.#as long as we exist as ourselves. as long as we hold tight to our stories and our worth and share with our fellows. we win. full stop.#all we have to do is hold on. it is the ultimate act of rebellion in the face of fascism.

It's easy to think "nobody in the whole wide world cares about me" on an empty stomach but try doing it while eating Vegetables and Rice. Seems less convincing now doesn't it? That's simply the power of Vegetables and Rice..

@aparrotandaqrow with this absolute banger in the tags: "In a culture war, you need every fucking inch-- you cannot cede ground just because the next inch isn't Versailles."
happy pride month in the US to everyone who was eligible to vote who voted for Kamala Harris and no one else in the US
#One of the hardest parts of any fight is accepting the lay of the land.#Not acceptance in the sense of defeat but acceptance in the sense of 'these are the facts of the battlefield and I cannot change them'.#We have to accept that we are going to have to fight and work while scared and uncomfortable and maybe even vulnerable. That's just reality#Is it fair? No. Is it just? No. Sadly it's how this shit works if we want lasting bulwarks against fascism supremacism and dominionism.#Complacency impatience and entitlement will critically undermine everything. QED: the state of things right fucking now.#We've never been fighting with advantage or even parity against christofascism in the US. Not once.#Court wins were not easy victories-- they were our sole workaround and decades of groundwork preceded them.#Much of it was slow galling frustrating and all too often heartbreaking.#Were things perfect? Hardly. Was there harm that needed to be addressed? Absolutely.#Imperfection is still objectively and ethically preferable to allowing an actively malicious administration into power.#That I actually have to say that is ludicrous on its face. How is that not common fucking sense?#This admin did not spring its actions on us out of the blue either. They are doing exactly what they said they would in P2025.#There was never a doubt as to whether they would follow through on what they were saying OUT LOUD for LITERAL YEARS if not DECADES.#It was a given that this admin would give Netanyahu and his goons carte blanche.#It was well known that ending USAID alone would result in hundreds of thousands (so far) of preventable early deaths.#It was predictable that defunding NWS and FEMA would kill hundreds and leave millions with nothing but rubble and ruins.#It went without saying that crippling the NIH and cutting Medicaid would have catastrophic outcomes for American health.#The plans were public. The consequences were clear. Refusing to take the only viable alternative for any reason was an act of violence.#This is something I will never change my mind about or forgive.#We should be so lucky to get a Treaty of Versailles type win at the end of this shitshow... assuming we live to see the fucking end of it!#qaf is pissed
