I am in a great need of bromance (or you know, undercover gay love), and whumperflies (aka hurt/comfort so hard it punches you in the guts). Love me a traumatized man and strong chemistry between the leads. Traditional romance is not required, just that strong bond. Setting doesn't really matter. Cdramas are the best for the moment, but other asian dramas work as well.

LITERALLY ALL OF THISSSSSS. I'm actually so frustrated with the TWO!!! completely out-of-left-field pigeonholed straight romances because the show had so much potential to say something really beautiful about the different ways humans can connect. A tale not about romantic love or sensual love but about a secret third thing. Behold, four loners bonded for life through The Power of Music... I would have been SO HERE FOR IT

I am so Normal about Glass Heart (a Netflix jdrama) that I literally finally caved and made a tumblr (well, technically, realized I made one years ago that I never used) so I could fuel my obsession and also write this post.

This show almost, almost did something so amazing that I was never expecting to see. Because you think you're watching a show about pretty people forming a band (which tbh is enough for me to watch any show) and the main character is Akane and she has her crush on Fujitani. And the two of them are so obviously musically in love with each other from the beginning and I will die on the hill that Fujitani is the most aromantic person I have ever seen. (like. he is entirely music. this whole show is about him being in music love with TENBLANK, more on that later.) And I'm watching and I think ok, maybe this won't end in a romance, I've seen a few dramas like that lately and it's refreshing.

BUT THEN. Episode 8 and the first half of 9 happens. And I think: This was a Fujitani x Takaoka romance story all along and they flipped the script on me. Amazing, no notes, the "play guitar by side for the rest of my life//is this a proposal scene?" hit me like the "be my coach until I retire" scene from YOI. And then the rest of episode 9 happens and I'm yelling at my tv like "you cowards you had to have a straight couple kiss on screen."

That said, I can almost forgive the show even for that, because I do think that actually this is a show about being poly music in love with your bandmates, and no one can convince me otherwise. Like that bit in episode 9 when Sakamoto says "I love you" and then he wants to correct himself to "I love your drumming" except for in this show those are basically the same statements!! They are all music in love/simply in love with each other and trying to negotiate those relationships.

(Also my utter disappointment when I could not find a single thing on ao3 about this show. I want messed up fic about whatever is going on with the guys from Over Chrome. I want people shipping Fujitani and Takaoka. I want cute fic about TENBLANK. Also Isagi and Fujitani are so clearly toxic exes and what exactly happened there!!)

A list of little Fujitani x Takaoka moments I think about a lot (with gifs <3)

the scarf wrapping scene which tells you everything about their relationship right from the start

their first meeting and the look on Takaoka's face when he watches Fujitani perform. god. love at first sight

when they meet years later and now that Fujitani's ready for a commitment (starting a band) he quite literally doesn't let go of Takaoka. look how he grabs him

the moment Takaoka decides to quit smoking

just another normal thing Takaoka says about Fujitani. he literally says he has the right to take care of him. as if it's some kind of reward.

Takaoka being the one who physically separates Fujitani from everything he loves. and then continues to cry and sleep by his door

when Takaoka straight-up called Saijo a murderer for not taking proper care of Fujitani and letting him go without food and sleep. he tried so hard to keep him safe even if it meant breaking his heart </3

the fact that both the first and the last song on the album were written by Fujitani for Takaoka. including the title song!!!! yeah i would cry hearing it too
