omfg the quibo lore is here but can i just say ONA …. its rly giving “u know u aren’t the chosen one bc they already exist & r already acknowledged but u could have been the chosen one, still might perhaps maybe become the chosen one if u worked hard enough to surpass the current one” and idk thats smth tht hits me kind of hard . the guilt of not being able to be smth ppl want or expect of u & the resentment that tht cultivates,, to the point of like how ona thinks quibo can do better in certain areas - how they might hav those little thoughts of “if i were in ur shoes i’d do it right” and the further guilt that comes with that line of thinking… esp when they are thoughts aimed @ someone who they know closely and knows them and supports them wholeheartedly despite having his own struggles weighing at him… gawd . . *cries*
u put it into words so perfectly my tummy is all heavy nd uncomfortable bc thats exactly who they r nd throes up everywhere TT IM SORRY ONA !!! i think especially too tht quibo wld reach out if he knew smth was wrong , and i think -- especially when they're older & near arnd the time quibo dies -- he can kind of tell , nd he tries he rly tries, but the fact tht he does is also something ona resents bc they dont WANT quibo to know they feel this way , its improper to feel this way , it's another imperfection ... imperfections they wnt to hide frm quibo especially who always gets to play the part of the hero . tht seemingly limitless kindness & concern in contrast w ona's seemingly obsessive anger & jealousy is smthng tht makes them pull away even more
#me when i ruin ona's life#well#I'm normal#tyy arell for sending this ToT#i luv hearing other ppls thoughts ab them#especially to see if their chara's actually get across#nd this showed me they do....#thank uu ToT#gives u a little kiss#ona tag#ask tag#arell tag

heavvyy break thru w the keebs lore ive decided tht he wasnt resurrected but rather just a sort of spirit protector the same way the adepti watch ovr the ppl of liyue, but just like them , the ppl he watches ovr have less nd less of a need for magical beings .. in tht way , sensing tht the role he used to fulfill is no longer like . needed or pertinent , i think hes become a sort of wandering traveler ever since .
tragic backstory still included though hes definitely still dead i just think his soul was unsatisfied w the whole tragic death thing (self sacrifice to protect ona who had sought elemental power to try & become equals/perform at the level quibo did, but it backfired & keebs took da brunt of it + neutralized it) & never laid 2 rest in his afterlife ^__^ (probablgg a manifestation of my fear of death . and since he dedicated his living life 2 protecting& helping his ppl , he does it in death too)
so his vision is definitely a fake like the gods & the adepti , i think hes prob like an elemental being of the sort and i think i might even bring the bat ears back ToT MAYBEEE MAYBEEEEEE i just think he should be more batlike since hes based off a hupia. i think hes just batlike.
i was just getting like Upset . bc i couldnt figure out how to make him FIT into genshin like ... well... bc why tf wld he come back /when/etc. but tbh . it makes more sense this way. job during life dedicated 2 helping& protecting his community --> dies really young --> pleads w his deities to allow his soul 2 return --> returns but as a soul tht couldnt cross over 2 the afterlife --> deities that he answered 2 die during archon war --> he's stuck here ^__^ until something or someone relieves him of his little duties but no one knows how not even himself i think & i don't think he even wants 2 move on tbh (maybe that's why... he can't... *rubs hands together * ) (also i think he has this giant fear of speaking to an archon bc hes like… theyre gonna fr kill me. tbeyre gonna be like “Wtf is this soul doing walking arnd in this body of elemental energy. Off to the afterlife!” thats his big fear LMAOO. so when the traveler is like… “uve met venti? the anemo archon?” quibo is like, *slow turn, widening eyes* “the what?”
i think the thing i never draw on keebs is his jewelry .he wears a lot of jewelry nd usually has different colored eye makeup(just pastel eyeliners that s it like light green sometimes he fills the whole lid sometimes just a line or sometimes just the crease nd sometimes he just wipes it on w his fingers all messy hehe he doesnt care ) everryday ever . lots of drapey necklacces tht clink together nd bracelets nd pins and he just really likes shiny things nd colloecting little things like that
i always imagine him sitting on a little ocean cliff and just thinking w headd in hhhand reminiscing he's such a big reminscnerr everything reminds him of something else and he never says it but everyone knows hes thinking of something else always. I LUUVVV him he makes me wnna cry i always think of him doing little things always i think he does cartwheels for fun when hes walking places nd he does it even when hes alone nd he definittely dances alone nd talks toeverything like the trees nd the wind when hes alone nd sometimes when hes with others cuz he forgets its not NORMALLL.

ona was raised by strict but neglectful parents, who wnted them to perform at the same lvl of jsut natural talent that keebs had but ona had 2 work hard nd implement sauur much self discipline to do so . and yet still bc keebs 'outshines' them (or so they frequently think, even if it isnt tru) they never really are acknowledged ? for all the work they do .
i think ona really only seeks approval frm their parental figures, nd the fact that they never receive it is like . idk ona is doing everything in their power not necessarily to be loved, but simply 2 avoid being unloved .they seek to be perfect so tht maybe one day people will notice them. they dont like making mistakes nd they remember every mistake they make . the core of ona is "if i hadnt make that mistake, it would be easier to love me. there would be no reason not to love me "
but it manifests in a person who has rly high standards for themself nd for others, rly rigid ideas of morality of what is good and bad and what is acceptable . nd when paired w keebs its jsut absolutely horrible . so while they r childhood friends , best friends, ona has all these ideas of what keebs Should be doing what he Should be like, “why isnt he like this xyz ,why cant he just do xyz .” and so theres so much frustration nd resentment for quibo . but so much love because quibo is the person that always accepts them more than anyone else, who's always acknowledged them nd been there to be like "im proud of u " "ur so good at xyz" "you work so hard" .

HIII JINGYIII LOREEE *giggles * HOW R UUU!!! i luv seeing it compiled into this story form its so cohesive nd im like O__O me when my eyes r glued to the screen. man fawk her parents dawg , i think i said this b4 but it makes sooo much sense that her engagement wld b the catalyst for her running away .. like not even hearing it frm her parents. also i like how u drove in what exactly her parents were losing — like how she was such an important chess piece for them but they treated her like poopoo caca and took away her freedom of choice . wild. &&LUV GANSS ganyu’s a real one. she would be so supportive… I LOVE THIS !!!!! jingyi making a place for herself in qingce village🥰🥰 do u think her neighbors have this like idea of who she’ll be frm all the gossip theyve heard & then their opinions turn on their heads after they get to know her?
jingyi is originally from liyue and her parents were quite influential with their wealth. some people just really shouldn’t have children, and a good example would be chao bowen and li hairong. most of her lessons consisted of practicing etiquette and priming her to be the perfect bride. she was discouraged from her natural curiosity as a child and taught how to keep smiling no matter how grim a situation, yet she still managed to outperform every child in her school and stay silent at her parents’ disappointment in the lack of marriage requests she received before she even reached puberty.
growing up wasn’t easy, having to grapple with the ostracizing feeling that came with all the kids thinking she never earned anything in life and the loneliness that came with barely present parents who made it no secret that they cared more about power than they ever could about her. and so she tried her hardest to find something someone would like her for. she fell in love with art only for her parents to tell her she was wasting her time, spent her free time practicing cooking only to find nothing she made suited her parents taste, attempted to learn the art of gardening only to get scolded for the dirt she tracked into the home and how unkempt it made her look.
it wasn’t right, she told herself. she hated how hairong would chastise her the moment she enjoyed something, how bowen would scarcely acknowledge her presence if there was nothing he could gain from her in the moment, how her life had become a race to find a husband without any regard for her own feelings.
eventually, her academic performance got her recommended to sumeru’s academia and, after a long and heated discussion with her parents, jingyi accepts. there, her father’s name meant nothing. there, she could throw herself into whatever studies sparked her interest without any disapproval. there, jingyi began to see how different the world was from what she had been raised to believe. she was allowed to socialize with people her she and learned that she didn’t need to keep her walls up 24/7.
jingyi spends a (perhaps embarrassingly) long time disentangling herself from the image that her parents have projected on her, reigniting her passions, and managing to befriend some people along the way. she found herself researching things outside of any one specific subject, allowing herself to gain holistic knowledge about the world before zeroing in on botany in extreme environments. she travelled teyvat in order to write her thesis (as well as to visit friends who had already graduated or were doing their own field work) and managed to finish her time in the academia in four years; not record breaking, but certainly impressive.
her return home was a harsh reminder that who she truly was would never be accepted in her household. so she grit her teeth and beared her parents’ comments on every little thing about her that could be improved. she fought to keep her face placid as her work for her parents company was overlooked until someone laid claim to her ideas and got promotions. she turned herself into the perfect robot her parents always wanted to be; convinced that after her taste of freedom, she was being condemned to this dreadful existence. that is, until word spread around liyue of an engagement. her engagement.
her parents had arranged a marriage for her and rather than tell her when plans were completed, jingyi only figured out her predicament after weeks of hearing gossip about the snooty heiress who didn’t care about tradition or her family getting betrothed to the son of a major mining company overseas, how the poor man who would have to handle this bull-headed girl, how lucky this girl’s parents were to be able to pair her with such an affluent man.
jingyi spoke to her parents about it during dinner, a surprise as she’d withdrawn into herself since returning from the academia. she had hoped to dissuade them from the decision, only to find that bowen and hairong cared more about the positive publicity the announcement had gained the company than their own child’s happiness. jingyi for once put her foot down, fully disagreeing rather than attempting to find a compromise. her parents blew it off as a tantrum, telling her that she should be grateful that a man 16 years her senior was even considering her as a bride.
when jingyi returned to her room, she had decided that she couldn’t stand being treated like this anymore. she missed the freedom she had found in the academia, the friends she had made, the sense of belonging when she could provide help that was more than simply being a bargaining piece. jingyi couldn’t quite believe that her parents had stooped that low, selling her off to some foreign man without a single word of her own opinion. she had thought as a child that it wouldn’t be too much to hope that her parents might love her once she met their expectations, that there was a possibility of being a real family, that her parents might acknowledge that she was a person one day. perhaps she’d been hoping too much. she quietly packed away all her belongings, stowing away a pouch of items she was sure would sell for a high enough price for her to live off until she could settle herself.
she slipped away before dinner, quickly finding one of the few people who understood that jingyi was more than an entitled heiress. as usual, ganyu was in her office at the yuehai pavilion and very willing to lend an ear to jingyi’s troubles, offering her a place to stay while the runaway could compile a plan.
and so jingyi returned home, sitting through one final dinner before she could embark on her own life. her parents did not comment on her silence, thinking it was her usual despondent attitude. they wouldn’t know that 3 hours after night fell, bowen would lose the bargaining chip that almost secured him what was essentially split ownership of the most successful mine in fontaine, that hairong would fail to produce the most talked about bachelorette to her confirmation engagement dinner, that the chao company’s heiress would slip from their grasp. that jingyi would be free.
she slipped out quietly in the night . ganyu seemed to come to work a little happier with her more experimental lunches and going home before the sun even set during the week that a tale of a disappearance spread through the harbor. she said nothing, but relayed the stories she’d heard to jingyi when she got home. ganyu always expected her to become upset whilst going over her possible future accommodations, but every night jingyi just laughed lightly at the tall tales. she admitted that she’d long since distanced herself from the caricature the town gossip had made of her, simply finding it amusing how extreme everybody’s idea of her had gotten once she’d withdrawn from their sight.
one early morning, ganyu awoke to a letter placed atop the made sheets of her guest bed. nothing else was out of place, it would have made dread spike in her gut had she not known this would happen in the coming days.
at nearly the same time, jingyi finished her overnight trek up to qingce valley, quietly greeting her new neighbors. her new home was much smaller than her parents’ house, but it looked like the perfect size for her and it had a sprawling yard and it was hers. her life was her own now, and she’d cherish it with every last drop of her soul.
#jingyi tag#mann trying to do ANYTHING to please her parents :(( thts so sad#rly nice to see she rose abv that
