i was looking at patch notes for updates for dqm3 because there are some that came out after i last played the game.

apparently they changed the Personal Grudge trait to activate only once per battle. it was one of my favourite strategies to use on lategate bosses to throw out a monster with personal grudge (on death, the monster that dealt the killing blow becomes stunned and gets a bunch of stat downs) and get it deliberately killed then use the free turn where the boss is stunned to resurrect it and repeat.

i was looking things up and apparently 'moggy' as slang for cat is a british term. do you not call a cat a moggy in other english-speaking countries? cause like in my house when one of my old cats had been out in the rain, my mother would always call them a 'soggy moggy'

this is relavant cause of the dq monster called a mogus which is a portmanteau of 'moggy' and 'magus' i do believe

my dragon quest knowledge is mostly about the actual games themselves. i say to people the dragon quest defined jrpgs and then i’m like uhhh i can’t explain why cause i don’t know about the development and stuff.

so i look stuff up to verify claims i make and every time i do i learn something new.

today i learned that before dragon quest, enix published another game by yuji horii, the portipia serial murder case (1983) which helped define the visual novel genre and apparently is what inspired hideo kojima to enter the games industry.

so i guess you also have horii to thank for metal gear and that game where you walk a lot? wild.

also eiji aonuma apparently was hired at nintendo before he had ever played a video game so he asked his girlfriend about video games who introduced him to the portopia serial murder case and dragon quest as the first two games he ever played. eiji aonuma has been a director, supervisor, or producer on most zelda games since ocarina of time.

i’ll throw in some bonus trivia i already knew: one of the co-creators of dragon quest was koichi nakamura. nakamura went on to found chunsoft and create mystery dungeon. there have been 4 dragon quest mystery dungeon games: 3 starring torneko from dq4 and 1 starring a young yangus from dq8 but of course the series is known best for the pokemon games. chunsoft later merged with spike to form spike chunsoft. the only trivia i can tell you about spike is that they created danganronpa, before merging though, i don’t know if horii can be blamed for that one.

there’s a yellow palette swap of the slime, she-slime, metal slime etc. called a lemon slime that has appeared in several japanese exclusive games and i think made an international appearance in dragon quest tact.

but there’s also a yellow palette swap of a bubble slime, liquid metal slime, slick slime etc. that’s only been in japanese games and its japanese name seems to derive from the japanese name for liquid metal slimes (はぐれメタル hagure metaru) with lemon thrown in there (はぐレモン hagu remon) so my belief is that if it were localised its english name would be liquid lemon slime.

it's okay, koichi nakamura's still alive and only turns 60 this year. he's the programmer one that went off and founded chunsoft and made mystery dungeon
