People pay for Ubers or food delivery, and you can pay a nanny to raise your children or a housecleaner to do housework for you. You can rent cars for a quick trip or power tools you only need once from Home Depot, and if you want to throw a party you can rent out a pool or a bounce-house or a clown. You know what I want as a service I can pay for? Dogs. There are times I just need to borrow a dog to play with and interact with and tell it how good it is and get the nice behaviors you only get out of a dog. I can't keep a dog in my apartment and I work weird hours that won't accommodate my own doggo, but every now and then, I need a goofy little affectionate buddy who wants me to try to take the rope toy from them or will lick my face and beg for tummy rubs and then be SO SO HAPPY THANK YOOOOOUU PLEASE KEEP RUBBING MY TUMMY I LOVE YOU NEW FRIEND. I would be happy to contribute to the dog's upkeep at a reasonable rate, I'll sign a contract saying I won't feed it certain foods no matter what degree of puppy eyes I get or let it countersurf, yadda yadda, and then I get to just borrow a dog for a few hours. Like, are you a dog owner? Is your dog bored, or does it simply like people? I don't need a dog specially trained to do anything, I just want a furry little goofball to throw a tennis ball for and tell it it's such a good baby until it wants to curl up in my lap and sleep and snore a little and twitch it's paws like it's remembering chasing the ball some more. You can be right there supervising if you want, or heck, if you have a high-energy pup that you need to have a couple hours of time off from, gimme a call, I will run that doggo around and then feed it peanut butter and we will have a grand old time. Owning a dog should be a marketable trait that other people get to benefit from, and if we're going to Do Capitalism to everything, damn, I want a playdate with a dog.
