Quilts SB #quiltssb Update -
The concentric circles echoing the sun have now been quilted. We're now working on the pebbling of the bottom horizontal border.
Our Homage is based on Paul Klee's 1928 Castle and Sun. Andy and I are currently working with art pieces and translating them to fabric and quilting.

Quilts SB #quiltssb Update -
All the stitching in the ditch has been completed. Now begins the task of working the intricate quilting design. Part of our design work is to determine what type and size of quilting will complement and work with the overall composition of our Homage to Paul Klee.
We're working on a title for our new quilt, other than Homage to Paul Klee.

Quilts SB (#quiltssb) Update -
1st colorway of our Atalanta is taking shape. She, eventually, will be about 38” long. The original Atalanta figurine is 9” tall.
As we progress, we’re both thinking and working on ideas, that hopefully will make sense.
Answer(s) -
- This is not a bed quilt.
- We are machine appliquéing Atalanta’s outline.
- We are using our Janome M7, #janomem7.
We attempt to answer as many as possible questions.

The head of Colorway #1 of our new Atalanta design is now machine appliquéd. We used our Janome M7 #janomem7
Answer- Our Atalanta is a freeform work in progress. Step-by-step we will tweak and work our design, at times scraping possible ideas of construction.

Quilts SB Update -
The top background for our new Bette Davis Portraits has been completed.
We're now experimenting and framing each of the 6 Bette Davis portraits.
Andy and I have noticed that the colors of the background and the frames appear to highlight and enhance some of the detailed cross-stitches in the portraits.

Quilts SB Update -
Andy and I had to make a change to the construction of our design. We are incorporating red and blue stripes. First, we tried using and creating ribbons out of the red and blue Tulle. That didn't work.
The 1/4" and 1/2" Tulle stripes kept on having minds of their own. We wanted straight horizontal lines. The Tulle stripes did everything possible from remaining straight. Wonkiness was their mindset.
We opted to create our own ribbons out of 100% Kona Cotton; red and blue. The stripes have been attached to the three panels of our Subway Triptych.
Next steps, to bind each individual panel; add the hanging sleeves, and the quilt labels.
We are currently now working on the design of our next new project , Atalanta.

Quilts SB Update -
The quilting, in the ditch, has been completed for all 3 panels of our new quilt project “Subway Triptych”. Next step is the binding. We’re trying to make sure that each panel can stand individually, and as a composition.
Andy and I have settled on a tulle fabric for the next stage of our design.
Be sure to stay-tuned for our next post at our Quilts SB FB page.

Quilts SB Update -
One panel quilting in the ditch has been completed. Second panel is just about done. There are 3 panels in out new Subway Triptych.
All sheer and tulle samples have been found which will be a part of the next steps of our design.
Our inspiration for the background of our new quilt is the work of Brazilian artist and master tile designer- Athos Bulcão.

Quilts SB Update -
All three tops, albeit panels, of our Subway Triptych have been pieced together. Now begins the arduous task, before we create the sandwich, of clipping and making sure that there are no loose blue threads. Blue threads will show through the white.
We got the sheer fabric for the next phase of our design.

Quilts SB Update -
All 3 panels, tops, of our Subway Triptych have been pieced and sewn. Next step is to create the 3 quilt sandwiches.
Each panel is composed of 11 strips of 3-inch squares.
Panel 1 and 3 are duplicates of each other. The middle 9 strips of Panel 2 are the the horizontal flip of Panels 1 and 3. The 2 outer strips of Panel 2 are the mirror images, one of the most right-hand strip of Panel 1, the other of the most left-hand strip of Panel 3.
And now begins our next phases, the quilting, the binding, and the sheers.
Our inspiration for the background of our new quilt is the work of Brazilian artist and master tile designer- Athos Bulcão.

Quilts SB Update -
All triangles and strips have been completed. We are now creating the 33 strips for our new Subway Triptych. The 3 panels of the background will total, once hung together, approximately 90 inches.
Andy and I are trying something completely different and interesting. All-things-being-equal we hope that what we have planned will work out. Even though we think that Subway Triptych's background will be able to stand on its own, we've created a design that may or may not produce that which we hope we can.

Quilts SB Update -
4 quilts of Andy's and my Hope Project will be on Special Exhibit beginning October 30 through November 3, 2019 at Quilt Festival Houston.
Our 4 quilts are Cold War Cranes, The First The Last The Hope The Journey, Vivaldi's Cranes, and Yes, A Flock of Cranes.
With regrets, Andy and I will not be able to attend and enjoy the festivities. If any attending kind soul would take the time and take some photos, guess who would be extremely grateful. Thanks.

Quilts SB Update -
The triangles and the strips have been cut for our Subway Triptych background panels.
Andy and I are trying something very new and very different to us. We are currently trying to envision sheer fabric to create an emotion on top of and as a part of our Subway Triptych. This is a part of our quilting journey.
