Arizona was raised as a military brat. Her father being stationed in different places every eighteen months. So she was never one to get close to anyone when she did move. She knew it was all going to be taken away when she moved. That is why it was hard for her to make friends growing up and her brother was her best friend. Timothy was the person she told everything to growing up and he never judged her. Timothy was the first person she had come out to and really just allow the two of them to bond over things. But, things weren’t always easy. Her name got her into a few scuffles on the playground and she tried to really just allow her brother to be there for her. She had parents who cared about her and coming out as a lesbian to them was easier then most kids, and she was just proud of her father bending for her because she was his daughter.
As Arizona got older and lost Timothy to the service, doing his job, she knew she wanted to be to surgeon to save others. Though she didn’t work on adults, children were more resilient and she loved that they fought harder then most. That is when she got hired in Seattle, and she made a life there. The first place she has actually called home and built a lot of memories, good and bad. The bad ones she tried to move past because she made mistakes, and so did her ex-wife, but that is something she couldn’t really dwell on knowing that she wouldn’t move past anything if she didn’t let that go. But that is when she met Carina DeLuca. At the time she was new at the hospital and they clicked right away. Though Arizona wasn’t looking for anything, Carina and her were together and she welcomed it. It was a breath of fresh air for Arizona from everything else that had happened.
Her life was starting to come together again. She had a woman who supported her and she supported her. Her job was thriving and everything was on a routine that they both could get along with, and just allow the other to adapt to everything. Carina was even accepting of Arizona having a child and Sofia, she wasn’t home yet as she was with Callie in New York, so it worked for Carina and her to get to know one another. Arizona was happy and it was the first time in a while she has been happy. But she knew the other shoe was waiting to drop and it did. Carina had to leave. She was going back to Italy for a little while.
As much as Arizona is against long distance relationships, she knew this relationship with Carina was special and she was willing to try to make it work. She knew Carina was going over there for a reason, and to help at the hospital, she understood. As much as it pained her, she knew she had to let it happen and the sooner she went, the sooner she would be back and they could go about their routine they have built up and be tighter once again. Arizona had just gotten home with food knowing their time together was limited so she was taking this at it was and hoping they could have a nice dinner together and just spend time together before the dreaded trip to the airport to drop Carina off. As she entered the house she heard movement and greeted by Carina and a smile pulled at her face with the dinner in her hands.
“Well, I figured I would grab us one of your favorite places and have a nice breakfast and some of the best coffee in this city. I know I didn’t feel like cooking breakfast and I know you didn’t, so why not just have someone else cook and we enjoy the food all the same. But I got a couple of breakfast sandwiches, the coffee you normally get, which I still can’t pronounce well, and a few other things for us to try.” Putting the food and coffee down on the counter and she leaned back into Carina just taking in being close to the brunette and she put her hands on hers. This was going to be hard, but they were going to make it work. Moving carefully and Arizona turned around in Carina’s arms and she looped her arms around her neck loosely and leaned in and pressed a kiss to Carina’s lips. “Were you packing?” Tilting her head up to take a look at Carina, and she noticed her eyes were a little red, but she didn’t want to bring that up yet. As she just wanted to take in the moment with the woman she was standing there with.
Arizona was dreading Carina leaving and her being alone again. She didn't know how long it would be after she got there that they would talk, but Arizona was positive they could make this work.

Carina Deluca had been raised very differently to her brother, Andrea. He was raised by their mother, Lucia, and taken to America for a totally different life, but Carina stayed in Italy with their manic father, Vincenzo. She was the only one who could handle him and his manic episodes. She never wanted Andrea to be exposed to that, so she begged their mother to take Andrea to America with her and give him a brand new life.
Whilst he was coddled and cared for, Carina was constantly told to toughen up. When she would fall over, her father didn’t care. He didn’t pick her up or ask if she was okay. She was expected to just get on with it, which she learnt to do fairly quickly. Displaying emotion was weak. Showing pain was pathetic. Allowing anyone to think they’re winning was wrong. She must always be in control and that was mostly his mania teaching her that. He was stubborn and hard to be around, so when Carina could, she moved to Seattle and finally met someone who taught her what real love should feel like.
@quirkyintricacy became the most important person in Carina’s life and although their relationship was very unexpected, it blossomed quickly. Carina welcomed that change into her life and began appreciating the little things. She started to enjoy her life once again, with a dream job and a dream woman by her side. Everything was going so smoothly, up until she received news that threatened to ruin everything.
Vincenzo was out of control. His mania was back and worse than ever before. He was getting himself into more and more trouble and nobody knew what to do with him. Carina knew her father would never admit he had a problem, which now made this mess her problem. She had to go back to Italy. She had to make sure he was safe and not hurting himself or others, but nobody knew about Vincenzo’s mania and just how bad it had gotten in recent years.
Just before she left for Seattle, she noticed he was getting more physical in his outbursts. She ignored it at first because he had never hurt her but as news reached her that he was even worse, she knew she had to get back to him and make sure that if he was hurting someone, it would be someone who was more than capable of taking whatever he could throw at her. It was going to be her.
As much as it pained her to do so, she lied to Arizona. She had told her that the hospital she had trained in back in Italy was short staffed due to the pandemic. She told her that she had to travel back there for a little while and despite the pain the blonde felt, she agreed to make the long distance work for a little while. Carina just couldn’t tell Arizona the real reason why she was leaving. At least not yet.
Carina had pulled a suitcase out of storage and plonked it on the bed. Unzipping the luggage, she began gathering and folding her clothes into the case. She had only just finished her bottoms when she huffed a heavy sigh and sat on the edge of the bed. She tried her hardest not to cry and when she heard the front door open and then close, she forced her composure and went into the front room to greet Arizona who had just fetched coffee and breakfast for the pair of them.
With a grin, Carina took in the aromas that followed the blonde and hummed happily. “Oh, that smells good. What did you get?” She asked, walking up behind the blonde and wrapping her arms loosely around her waist, resting her head on her girlfriend’s shoulder. She was going to miss being this close with Arizona.
