from my non-gamer pov (I'm an #ally), what this has looked like is a critical mass of maddened and delirious silksong posting for the past ~week that built to a sustained frenzied climax for about ninety minutes either side of the game's actual release, at which point everyone went absolutely dead fucking radio silent. I have not heard a single peep from any of you about what is happening in this game. no liveblogging, no screenshots, no reactions, nothing. my girlfriend emerges from her room every five-to-eight hours to intone "I've been skonging it too hard," grab a morsel of food, and withdraw to her chambers once more. Is everyone okay Are you having fun Is the silksong loud and beautiful and are you so very afraid.

Silksong thoughts part 1

I am not very far. I've been taking my time.

I feel a motif here about the layout of the game. We start out deep in the tunnels of bone marrow. Narrow veins. We must climb to the top where spirituality is rumored to flourish. Something about this feels very ... organic and alive

A gate is opened by a lever mechanism that plays a song with large metal blocks acting as bells attached to each part of the machine, in this kingdom every mechanism is ruled by song for some reason. To open a gate it must sing. Why? What purpose is music if a machine can open it on its own? This is already symbolizing the bugs' mysterious religion, where even though religion is mechanically intangible and useless it still holds deep significance to the people.

Even at the bottom of the world here you have ember particles flowing upwards, reaching higher and higher, longing for an escape.

The background elements and sound design almost change the music itself, shifting with every area you move to. The music has very worrying undertones. The distant echos haunt the depth of the entire environment.

I cannot walk away from the screen without a lingering feeling following me.

have you ever changed a diaper? i have 3 siblings and cousins who are so much younger than me, and the thing is, babies NEED diapers. it's not just because they can't control their bowels, it's also because there's just not very many other options for keeping a baby safe and healthy down there.

ammar is an infant in gaza, and you've all been donating for his medicine - barely, rarely, only sometimes. he's never had consistent donations.

and this is killing him.

i'm not going to mince words. the lack of donations is ACTIVELY KILLING AMMAR. he doesn't have diapers, and the kindness of strangers his mother relied on to get them in the past has dried up - or rather, has been murdered. yes, israel killed the kind old man who used to give samah diapers for ammar.

HE HAS OPEN SORES ON HIS THIGHS FROM SAMAH TRYING TO KEEP HIM CLEAN WITHOUT ACCESS TO DIAPERS FOR TWO WEEKS.

STOP IGNORING THIS VITAL NEED.
