Do you guys remember when the "truscum movement" (if you can even call it that) used to be pretty big on here? I'd say it was pretty sizable in the early 2010s especially, though transmedicalism has been a thing for longer. In recent years it's stopped really being a thing, or being as loud. Non-binary identities have become more acceptable in the mainstream, and trans love has become a focal point of trans representation- we don't have to be miserable, we don't need to fit into boxes. Nowadays you hardly run into open, proud truscum anymore. Back then though, it was every other trans guy, unfortunately. It was a deeply hateful and bitter ideology towards our own community, and that hate was covered up and justified by the fact that the transphobia and dysphoria that those men faced was seen as more "real" in their own eyes- deep down I believe they were hurting deeply, and they wanted to tear down happy trans people. They wanted their pain acknowledged. But they went about this by integrating transphobic beliefs into their system and targeting what was, at the time, the easiest target within the community (the concept of being nonbinary hadn't been accepted by the mainstream at all yet, and it was an easy punching bag. "I identify as an attack helicopter" and all that.) their circles heavily overlapped with mras and terfs, because they essentially preached the same things but with a trans coat of paint.

Anyway, truscum have slowly faded out of the big picture. But the kind of guy who would be truscum never did. The context changed. The landscape of trans activism and gender equality shifted. Nowadays the biggest political targets within our community are trans women, and the atmosphere of the "gender wars" in general is heavily painted in male podcaster lingo (so, still terfs and mras) The whole "transandrophobia truther" thing is truscum 2.0. They have a new target under this new landscape and a new verbiage that still boils down to incel and terf rhetoric with a trans coat of paint. And deep down I do think it's just guys who are in pain and trying to say "what about my hurt? Why can't we talk about the way being trans hurts me and people like me? It's still real and valid" (and it is. I promise it is) But the thing is they don't really care enough about trans Unlike them to extend the courtesy of compassion that they desire. It's the same lashing out in pain we saw in truscum. It's the same willingness to engage with openly transphobic ideology that puts down other members of the community, because their desire to have their pain seen as real is easily taken advantage of by bad actors (be it mras or terfs, or other truscum/transandrobros) who will say "I see your pain. Here is who you point it at." (And it's your sister)

And that doesn't excuse it. I'm not saying it does. I'm saying when someone tells you that your pain is only real when you betray your own community, they do not care about your pain. They are not your friend. They do not want you to be happy. Truscum used to preach that being miserable was the only way to be trans. That's not true. Neither is being oppressed in unique ways- and you can (and should) still talk about those, as a trans guy, without putting down the experiences of the rest of your community (being trans woman or nonbinary people, or anyone else.) Every argument I've seen is bad faith, and in the end it's not even helpful for trans men. I don't think our joy has to come from putting others down, I don't think we should keep letting that be a popular narrative. I don't think terfs and mras are our friends, ever, even when they give us validation we desperately seek. It means nothing from them, stop buying into it. Trans women aren't your enemy. Don't throw away their sisterhood, even if it comes with uncomfortable truths about ways you may be complicit in misogyny (no one, regardless of gender, is immune, because it is societally ingrained. Unlike misandry, that's the point) for the sake of easy validation, from people who benefit from maintaining a misogynistic and transphobic status quo. They don't love us. They only acknowledge our pain because it is a tool to them.

undertale is best played like a couple times WHEN IT CAME OUT AND WAS NEW where you play a couple routes and get surprised at how it attempts to flip the idea of the game being fictional on its head. cause at that time few games played with those concepts.

it does its best to make you care about the characters, and then follows through with that in the genocide route

like, this is like calling shrek the greatest movie ever. its like saying how the fact that it takes the classic disney fairytale and turns it on its head is the best point in all of cinema. that just tells me you havent seen much cinema outside of the popular disney/pixar/dreamworks movies. its the same with undertale.

and its not a bad thing to like these things, but defending them to the death is embarassing for the other people who enjoyed them. art is art, let people interact with art as they please, and yes that includes calling some art dumb and annoying

two, the second part of this "twinks with top surgery scars slapped on" was a citation from a post I made venting about how I feel excluded from art that's supposed to represent the transmasc community where majority of trans men I've seen (even post op) do indeed, not look like twinks but have a spectrum of body types, including fat guys. it's my frustration towards pushing a weird sense of western beauty standards onto transgender men, especially those that aren't skinny and bipoc ffs.
