Hot off the presses following my unplanned marathon of action/thriller/disaster movies, here’s a new Awakening/Chrobin!AU for you.

Chrom works at his family’s large corporation, Ylisse. All the Shepherds work there, of course. And Emmeryn is the CEO.

Maybe it’s Christmas bc that feels like such a classic action movie thing, so naturally there’s gotta be a lotta snow, too — staff were just sent home after their holiday party, and Chrom forgot something in the building and says to his family you go on, I’ll be home soon I gotta grab what I forgot.

But when Chrom goes back, he notices something is off and comes across some people who have broken into the building. They notice Chrom and start shooting at him, and Chrom is able to escape to a room and barricade himself in. Prior to this happening, there’s some conversation or show of how intricate and ironclad Ylisse’s building security system is.

The people who broke in are wanting access to Ylisse’s tech/algorithm or something of the like — basically, the thing that has made them so successful. And, uh oh, they gotta get Chrom bc he has the access code they need or something idk, they can’t just leave him alone.

Meanwhile, Robin is working late at his tech job in the skyscraper across the street (the business name is Plegia LOL). He’s the only one working still, trying to get some project finished up to meet a deadline.

When the incident happens in the next skyscraper, Robin sees what happens and is like holy shit wtf is happening over there. Robin has like a perfect view of what’s happening and tries to call the authorities to alert them but can’t get through because a winter storm or lines are clogged from another incident that had happened somewhere in the city? idk movie logic (but also it’s the holidays so there’s less people to respond). Because of his good vantage, he can see information that could help Chrom. Figures out a way to hack into the phone system of the company and is able to call a phone in the room Chrom’s in.

Chrom answers the phone and Robin is like follow what I say there’s no time but you gotta trust me. And Chrom is like locked in let yes immediately. Despite Robin being thrown by that (the situation is exceptional but STILL) Robin successfully directs Chrom to temporary safety

This continues on, with Robin calling in to different phones in different rooms and directing Chrom to safety each time

Naturally, this has Robin and Chrom on the phone like the whole time. In between high stress situations, there’s bonding between the two of them, with some gentle ribbing to try and take some tension off the situation.

In times when Chrom has to wait something out or things seems dire, the two of them open up to each other, sharing their worries they’ve shared with no one else because hey this situation is kinda messed up and they have a weird connection now.

I imagine scenes where Chrom fights some of the people who broke in off and is badass and Robin is like dude what the hell are you Jason Bourne or something I thought you worked a desk job

There’s gotta be little flirty moments too obv like Robin could make a reference to something about Chrom’s appearance and Chrom is like hey that’s not fair you get to know what I look like and I don’t get to know what you look like? And Robin is like are you a/s/l-ing me fr rn????

But then, something Chrom tells Robin over the phone about the events that led to this situation or some kind of identifying detail about the attackers and Robin is like wait…that sounds a lot like something I’ve seen lately.

Robin starts flying through project files on his work computer and, sure enough, finds something seemingly innocuous that actually points to Plegia having some kind of involvement in what’s happening.

And so Robin has to play a more active role, helping out Chrom while tracking down the culprit within his own company — hacking into secret files, cutting camera feeds so he can sneak into locked areas of the building. So he can’t be around the phone all the time anymore, and the both of them are in constant danger. Which makes the moment they ARE able to connect through phone that much of a relief to the other.

Turns out, Plegia is the one that set the whole thing into motion as a way to topple the company or something (they’re competitors). Hired these people to attack Ylisse on their behalf.

At some point, both of them end up on their respective roofs and like catch sight of the other across the way and like kinda stare at each other, like they’re so close yet so far, when Chrom yells out to Robin a moment before Robin is tackled and is fighting off one of the hired goons and struggling. Chrom is like I gotta help but he’s STUCK ON HIS OWN ROOF.

Meanwhile Robin is like taunting the attacker bc of course he is he’s a little shit even when he’s barely fighting the attacker off. an alarm on Robin’s phone goes off and Robin like laughs and is like yeah you’re not gunna get paid anymore

Turns out the alarm was set to go off when the stock market opened. Robin released all the information online that shows the shady stuff Plegia has been up to shortly before the stock market opens. When it opens, the company’s stock plummets, and Robin states to the person he was fighting with that there’s no way they’re getting paid for their work now — the company will be under too much scrutiny, and it’s possible the goon will be put at risk, as well. And so the person flees or something, but is actually apprehended by the authorities or something on the ground floor cause of course Robin planned for that, too.

Typical end of movie scene where Chrom and Robin are sitting in the back of an ambulance with shock blankets around their shoulders and they’re like just kinda joking when there’s a quiet moment and Chrom is like…looking for a job? And Robin laughs like you know what? Yeah, probably. Then pauses and is like oh but I do have one question. What’s your company’s policy on dating coworkers? And Chrom is like oh? Someone pique your interest? And they’re leaning in a bit and Robin is like, yeah, there was this guy who broke in who was pretty cute and Chrom like grabs his collar and kisses him — big movie kiss, zoom out and up on a drone, roll credits muah.

Like??? Do you see the vision???? It haunts me.

Robin watches her declaration crash into Chrom with seismic force.

His mouth slackens, lips rounded in the same ‘o’ as his widened eyes. He blinks at her for a full twelve thumps of her pounding heart before he seems to remember how to speak.

“You…you what?” he chokes out.

Robin laughs—she can’t help it. In the novels Sumia has lent her, love proclamations like the one she just made are usually met with a proposal or a passionate embrace. In the racier ones, sometimes the characters start going at it then and there. But as desperate as she is to cut to the part of this where they fling themselves at each other and become an inextricable muddle of limbs, Robin wouldn’t trade his sincere reaction for anything.

“What, didn’t you hear me? Or do you just want me to say it again?” she teases, a grin splitting her face. “I said that I love you, Chrom. I always have. And I’ll repeat it as many times as you’d like.”

“No, I—I heard you,” he stammers. His hands tighten at her waist, as if he’s afraid that she’ll slip through his fingers if he loosens them even a fraction. “But…what do you mean ‘always’?”

“I mean always. As in from the very beginning.” The words feel fluttery leaving her throat—a caged bird free to take flight at long last. “It just took a remarkably long time for me to realize that I don’t have to keep fighting it.”

Robin meets his gaze dead on, ignoring the creeping heat in her cheeks. Hope and wonder spark in Chrom’s eyes, the light of dawn glittering against them like the sun-spangled sea.

“Robin,” he takes a quaking breath, “do you really mean it…?”

“I do,” she promises. “I really truly do.”

A smile breaks across Chrom’s face. Her heart lifts off—

Then a door slams shut inside of him and the smile crumbles.
