Since it’s Black History Month, I’m making sure you folks know about Mike Pondsmith.
Mike designed, amongst other things, Cyberpunk 2020 and its wonderful spin-off Cybergeneration. He designed the critically-acclaimed Castle Falkenstein. A black man kicked off interest in two incredibly white-dominated genres in a white-dominated hobby is a remarkable achievement.
Which is why it bugs me that I didn’t know he was black until a couple of years ago. I figure the least I can do is make sure other folks know too.
#Mike Pondsmith is responsible for creating SO much of the Cyberpunk subculture canon as we know and love it today#And I don't just mean in terms of the game#I mean Cyberpunk as a literary genre and standalone subculture#Cyberpunk 2020 was fucking groundbreaking in so many ways#He took the rudimentary techno-orientalist brand of Cyberpunk the likes of Gibson were putting out there#And just fucking ran with it in a different direction#The man is THE O.G Cyberpunk in my eyes and always will be#So much of who and what I am I owe to Pondsmith's worldbuilding

So I know the point of the game is to get Johnny out of your head and save V but…I don’t wanna~ I’ve actually totally been on board with V either giving Johnny her body OR she’s able to find his body and put him back OR they simply coexist together. It makes it so awkward playing sometimes because V’s like “I’m DYING he’s KILLING ME. I MUST REMOVE HIM.” Meanwhile I’m over here like “yeahhhh let’s take Johnny to the roller coaster ~”
CDPR failed at making me want to get rid of him, if anything he’s the comfort my V’s never had.
