It was sudden — a little too quick, the way Gator was packing his spare clothing and items that had been placed in various places in your small trailer. 

Almost like he was waiting for you to tell him to leave. 

“So you were just waiting, huh?” You watch as he glances back for a second, looking away just as quick, shaking his head. 

“You told me you didn’t wanna do this sneakin’ ‘round no more,” He scoffs, turning and brushing past you. “So, I’m doin’ what you asked.” 

“No, you’re doing what you want,” You follow after him. “I wanted you to tell Roy about us, but you - you, Gator - didn’t want that ‘cause you’re too scared of what your daddy might say.” 

He ignores you now, shaking his head once again as he grabs something from the cabinet, an old bottle of whiskey he’d stolen from Roy’s alcohol tray. Clenching your jaw, you cross your arms and watch as he turns. He stops short in his steps when he sees you. 

Your cheeks flush, anger and sadness sends a confusing mix in your chest, clawing up your throat almost as if you wanted to throw up in the middle of the floor where he stood. Your eyes burn and prickle with the onslaught of tears that begin to form, chin quivering as you turn your head to keep from watching him fold in on himself. 

“I want you — I want this,” You look at him, brows pinching together. “Is it…Is it ‘cause you don’t want the same thing? Is that it? You can—you can be honest with me. I won’t be mad,” You shake your head quickly. Gator is quick to place the bottle down and make his way over towards you, rough palms catching your cheeks, a shuddering breath leaves your throat as the tears suddenly begin to fall. “It’s okay…It’s okay, just-you can tell me.” 

His adam’s apple bobs as his thumbs wipe away your tears quickly, shaking his head. “No…No, it’s not because of me,” His voice is low, soft — his own mix of hurt and anger twisting in between the syllables. “I want this too. But I can’t…” His voice trails off, eyebrows furrowing together as he tries to keep his own tears at bay. 

You stare at him, shaky fingers wrapped around his wrist as you wait for him to finish his thought. He doesn’t. I can’t is the last thing he says before the trailer is plunged into an unbearable silence. 

Your head nods a bit jerkily, pulling out of his grip, pulling your body further away from him. He watches as you sit on the couch, pulling your legs up against your chest. 

“You don’t want to keep Roy waitin’,” Your voice breaks. “Get your bags and leave. Like you planned on doing anyway,” 

He says your name, desperate, but you let out an airy laugh. “God, Gator, I cannot hear you try to defend why you’re doin’ this anymore,” You look back at him. “I love you and want to show that off to the people around us! But I won’t keep makin’ myself look like a fool just  ‘cause you’re scared of what others will say,” 

He doesn’t know if he’s more angry at the fact that you’re calling him out, or the fact that you’re exactly right. 

“I won’t embarrass myself anymore. And I surely will not embarrass you anymore,” You turn your body once again. “Leave.” 

He stands there for a moment longer. He isn’t sure why he does, but when you don’t hear his heavy boots walking towards the room to grab his stuff, you’re standing from the couch. 

It’s quick the way you move — walking past him before you’re back and dropping his bag at his feet. “I said leave. I don’t want to see your face anymore,” You shake your head, pushing your hair back. “You’re making me sick.” Something about the words you say is the final blow — the anger in your voice, the way your face twists up into something close to disgust. His heart thuds in his chest roughly. 

“You…you don’t mean that.” 

“Oh,” You let out a small laugh, eyes slightly wide as you stare at him. “I do. I do mean it,” You nod. 

“You make me sick to my stomach, Gator. You’re an awful person who deserves nothing and all that you’re good for is being controlled and treated like you’re good for nothing,” His stomach twists and the tears that had begun to prickle at his eyes suddenly slip down his cheeks as he stares at you. “I wished I would’ve never met you. And I hope we never cross paths again.” 

He blinks a couple of times, eyes dropping down to his bag. He slowly reaches down and grabs the straps, before making his way past you. You watch, nose flaring as you release a shaky breath. You know you’ll regret the words later on — but right now, you don’t. The door opens and he pauses, glancing back at you once more. 

Shaking your head, you turn and make your way towards the bedroom, the door slamming behind yourself. Closing his eyes, he lets out a shaky breath, before making his way down the rickety steps. The door shuts behind him, his boots suddenly feeling too heavy as he makes his way towards his car. 

He places his bag on the passenger seat before leaning back in his own seat, eyes staring out the window as his fingers clench around the wheel.

Opening your bedroom window to find Eddie's standing a few feet away with one hand cupped to his chest and the other gearing up to throw another pebble at the glass in an attempt to your attention.

"Eddie why.. are you.. I have a first story window —What on earth are you doing over there?"

He's so earnest— blinking those big cow eyes at you, cheeks dimpled with a stupidly charming grin. "Throwing rocks at the window of my beloved."

"...Eddie. My room is on the first story. Just come over here."

And then he's clutching a hand to his chest like he's been shot with an arrow to the heart, remaining pebbles thumping to the ground below. "I'm creating ambiance here, sweetheart. Honestly, you don't have a romantic bone in your body, do you?"

bonus points; he does that multiple times and once while he was gearing up to do it, you’d opened the window and the small rock pelts right against the middle of your forehead.
