Rabbit Wranglers is Western PA's only 501(c)3 non-profit that focuses on special needs rabbits. We created this blog to share the stories of rabbits in our area, as well as to increase the community's knowledge about rabbits as pets. Rabbit Wranglers' mission is to help abused, neglected and abandoned rabbits and educate the public to improve the lives of these companion animals. Helping people owned by rabbits for over 42 years. Non-profit certification was obtained in 2010.

Differently-abled Hopalong Cassidy helps us announce our participation in Giving Tuesday on December 3rd - a national day of giving to inspire individuals to give back and support causes in their communities. On this day, Rabbit Wranglers will launch the “Too Hip to Hop” initiative, which focuses on those rabbits (like Hopalong Cassidy) with physical disabilities requiring adaptive housing, wheelchairs, ongoing treatments, veterinary care, and specialized diets. Kick off the holiday season right by joining the movement to celebrate giving and hop on over to www.givingtuesday.org this December 3rd and give back to Pittsburgh’s only rabbit welfare-centered organization. A donation, whether big or small, will help Rabbit Wranglers care for the neediest of rabbits. We do accept PayPal https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=BPJXACH5WAFE4 Rabbit Wranglers also encourages donors to post a photo of their special needs rabbit on the Rabbit Wranglers Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/RabbitWranglers) and share why Rabbit Wranglers matters to them.
Follow the #GivingTuesday campaign on Twitter at @GiveTues and join the live Twitter chat on December 3rd using the hashtag #GivingTuesday.

On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was. I only remembered because it was a hockey night in Pittsburgh.

Top-Rated, Times Two!
For the second consecutive year, Rabbit Wranglers has been named a Top-Rated Award Winner by Great Nonprofits. Great Nonprofits is a user-based review site and a partner of GuideStar. Think of it as the TripAdvisor of nonprofits!
Due to our excellent reviews from the Pittsburgh community, we are one of the first charities to earn this designation for 2013! We were one of only 15 charities in Western PA, and the only pet-focused charity in the region, named to the list in 2012.
Thank you to everyone who was kind enough to leave a review over the last year!
Now, if you'll excuse us, we've got some binkying to do!

We have some incredible news! Our own Roger & Myrtle will be featured in the Petco Foundation's 2014 calendar!
As you may recall, our amazing volunteers and supporters recently used their own photos in a contest that helped Rabbit Wranglers win over $4,000 in grants from the Petco Foundation.
Photos in this contest were automatically considered for inclusion in the calendar. We've just received word that this photo of Roger & Myrtle, a bonded pair who were adopted at the end of the contest, has been chosen!
We're so proud of our supporter, Natalie L., who took this photo! Thank you, Natalie!
We'll share more details as we receive them, but we wanted to take the time to once again thank all of you, our volunteers and supporters. Your hard work and endless support (and your photos of your adorable pets!) are absolutely essential to our success as an organization. You have our most heartfelt thanks, and our bunnies' most thoughtful chinning!
Rabbit Wranglers is an all-volunteer, certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Every dollar we receive directly benefits our rabbits, and the grants you have made possible will help us accomplish even more for the house rabbit community.

We recently admitted a litter of orphaned baby bunnies. They will receive hours of daily care and socialization from their foster mom, and will be spayed and neutered at 6-months-old before being placed for adoption.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our nonprofit, providing thousands of hours of care to fostered bunnies each month. We're so thankful to our local foster families! The specialized care this litter will need could only be found at Rabbit Wranglers.
If you live in the Pittsburgh, PA area and would like to volunteer with us, click here to find out how to contact us.
Can't volunteer? You can still help by donating online via Paypal! Click here to make an online donation. As an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, all donations directly benefit our rabbits. We were recognized as a Top Nonprofit of 2012 by Great Nonprofits. Guidestar rates us at the Silver level in recognition of company transparency, and rates us with 5-stars.

Quincy helps out around the office by shredding confidential documents we no longer need.
Beautiful Quincy was transferred to Rabbit Wranglers from the Western PA Humane Society. At the time, she needed specialized, constant care for an abscess and six weeks of GI stasis. Thanks to care made possibly by our volunteers and donors, Quincy is now on her way to recovery!
Stasis occurs when a rabbit's gastrointestinal mobility slows down. This can happen for a variety of reasons: insufficient fiber in her diet, stress, pain from another medical problem, dehydration, or intestinal block. The slowing of GI mobility can create a block, preventing the rabbit from digesting food properly and from absorbing nutrients.
If not treated in time, stasis can be fatal. Treatment usually includes, but is not limited to, medications, abdominal massage, providing subcutaneous fluids, and syringe feeding liquid and a special nutrient substance called Critical Care. A rabbit-savvy vet should be consulted if you suspect stasis.
Rabbit owners and caretakers should know the signs of stasis:
Lack of appetite
Smaller-than-normal fecal pellets, or none at all
Lethargy
Diarrhea or soft fecal pellets
Audible stomach noises
If you suspect GI stasis in your rabbit, contact a rabbit-savvy vet immediately! Click here to use the House Rabbit Society's vet finder tool. If you are in the Pittsburgh, PA area, click here to view Rabbit Wranglers' contact info. We do not have a vet on staff, but we can direct you to a rabbit-savvy vet in the area.

These rabbits don't have jobs, but they're working their buns off! (See what we did there?)
Our incredible volunteers and supporters have worked so hard over the last month, and it has paid off for our rabbits in a huge way!
At the beginning of April, Rabbit Wranglers supporters entered a fundraising drive. Using photos of their own pets, they asked friends, family, and even strangers to help RW win a grant from the Petco Foundation. Countless social media updates and emails later, our team raised a whopping $1,882!! Rabbit Wranglers will receive a grant from the Petco Foundation in that amount.
But wait! Because the two photos above (Keely, owned by RW Co-Founder Alyssa O'Toole, and Roger & Myrtle, a dynamic duo recently adopted from RW) each raised over $500, they were entered into an additional drawing.
AND WE WON! Rabbit Wranglers will receive an additional $2,500 grant from the Petco Foundation!
In less than 6 weeks, our amazing supporters helped us win a grand total of $4,382 in grant money! Unbelieveable!
We are so incredibly thankful to everyone who made this happen - our volunteers and fans, who uploaded 13 photos and shared their hearts out; all our fans and friends of fans who donated anywhere from $5-100+; and to everyone on social media to helped spread the word!
Rabbit Wranglers is an all-volunteer, certified 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Every dollar we receive directly benefits our rabbits, and the grants you have made possible will help us accomplish even more for the house rabbit community.
Watch this page for updates on the rabbits in our care, and know that it is all happening because of you!
