honestly I think a lot of people need to acknowledge that theres not one accommodation that will work for all mutants! sometimes you have to work on an individual by individual basis.
one thing i know my local mutant community group does is offer nights with different accommodations, like we might do a sensory friendly night that helps mutants who get overwhelmed by a lot of loud noise or bright lights, but on those days mutants with for example, bioluminescence or light generation are asked to stay home. so we might do an allergy friendly night, and a fur friendly night! if you have the ability to offer the same services multiple times (and enough interested mutants) that might be a potential solution.
How do we balance the needs of mutants with fur with the needs of individuals (both mutant and human) who are allergic to fur? If there’s a mutant who has fur allergies and one who has fur, there’s a possibility that they can’t both be in the same space, so if there’s something like the AMS, where they both should be welcome, how do we resolve that conflict?
(And then there’s the argument that because of individuals with fur allergies, image inducers are inherently immoral because the disguise a health risk. Which is nonsense because if you want to talk about health risks, let’s talk about the health risk involved in walking around as a mutant with a visible mutation without an image inducer.)

My Superheros in Society professor is a big mutant ally, and she’s got a TwSwM (Those who Stand with Mutants) sticker on her bag, and usually I think she’s really cool, but then today in discussion we were about talking the X-Men. Of course, I think the X-Men are amazing, they’re literal superheros and they’ve done a lot for mutants and mutants rights. However, I said that I wished they would communicate more with other members of the mutant community, like community leaders and activists, before standing in front of all those cameras and claiming to speak on behalf of mutantkind. I mean, did Cyclops ask me if I wanted a mutant revolution? But my professor is apparently the type of ally who thinks that any criticism of the X-Men is inherently mutaphobic, and she wouldn’t even engage me or my ideas and I just wish people would listen. There are mutants outside the X-Men. There are mutants who aren’t, can’t, or don’t want to be heroes, and our opinions matter too.

sure says something about how people see us that they think all mutants should get medical care from veterinarians and not like, actual doctors !   🙄
mutant physiology needs to be taught in all medical schools, we shouldn’t be expected to know more than human doctors and we Definitely shouldnt be expected to go to a vet like animals

Sapiens have no place in the whole “visible” vs “invisible” mutants discourse. Either they grossly over-simplify it (hey guys, shapeshifters exist! Secondary mutations are a thing! Presentations can change!) or they try on purpose to drive a wedge between us, either by putting pressure on visible mutants to hide our mutations or by acting as if invisible mutations are somehow less valid. Please. Just stay out of it.

...anyway mutant sexuality isn’t something to be grossed out about. being attracted to mutant bodies is fine and healthy and wonderful!
just yknow. would yall be this upset about seeing suggestive pictures of sapien-normative bodies 🤔

oh yeah im not claiming all mutants will make perfect teachers, I don’t have first hand experience with the xavier’s teachers at all. I just think its not important if they have a degree or not!
Conceptually I’m fine with a mutant school but I doubt any of the people Charles has hired has an education degree

thats so good to hear! im glad someone with first hand experience of the school in question could comment, thank you!
honestly mutant schools are so important to me and I really hope more are founded soon, its so important to provide equal opportunities for all mutants, without anyone having to hide who they are or restrict part of themselves.
Conceptually I’m fine with a mutant school but I doubt any of the people Charles has hired has an education degree

so like, who wants to have a conversation about how many non-mutant school are extremely hard for mutants? (especially mutants with physical or uncontrollable mutations) and how this means its very difficult for many mutants to graduate high school, much less get a bachelors degree in education. Let’s talk about how college is not accessible for all mutants, especially mutants from lower socioeconomic backgrounds due to the extremely high tuition costs, the difficulty for physically and learning disabled mutants, the discrimination faced by mutants of color, lgbt+ mutants, and mutants of other marginalized identities depending on department and school, etc etc. College is just not a reality for many mutants!
Just because someone has or hasn’t attended a four year university doesn’t reflect their ability to teach. Teachers can be evaluated in other ways, based on merit, not class or ability to function in non-mutant spaces.
Conceptually I’m fine with a mutant school but I doubt any of the people Charles has hired has an education degree

Thinkin bout the argument that rogue shouldn’t wear revealing clothes because her power will hurt if you touch her skin but her clothes aren’t an invitation to touch her so I think it’s actually kind of a poetic justice thing

okay like. i’m not in the x-men (obviously), i’m not a member of that subculture, i’m not combat-trained or anything, so maybe there’s context i’m not aware of
but damn i am deeply suspicious of “let’s take in vulnerable teenagers who have nowhere else to go and weaponize them”. it’s less like that now, sure, but i wonder if that’s not because of a conscious effort to move away from that methodology, especially after xavier’s death?
also ftr i still think it’s shitty that society at large has now taken the popular image of “weaponized mutation + vigilante training” and run with it to the extent that i’ve legitimately gotten questions at work about whether i’m “wearing [my] costume under that apron” :|
