Shangri-La (partial translation)

I’ve been away from Takarazuka for a while but I thought I’d drop back in to share a translations that seems to have been lost.

Shangri-La (Cosmos 2010) is one of my favourite Yuuhi/Sumika shows from their era, it’s this weird little story set in a post apocalyptic Japan but I dig it. Back in 2013-ish the now deactivated blog of iheartmagee had started translating Shangri-La in small parts. At the time I made some back-ups of their subs in case they went down and well, here we are. Glad I kept ahold of them! Some of the translation can be a little awkward in places so I tried to clean it up here and there, as well as cross referencing it with some lines in the 3DF Productions audio drama.

You can download the subs or find the script below the cut. They only go to about the 50 minute mark, and then a short conversation near the end, so just under half the show itself. And who knows, maybe someone will be inspired to finish the translation off now! (stares hopefully into the distance) Anyway, enjoy!

Miu: You don't know?

Sora: I don't remember anything

Sora: When I just opened my eyes, I was already lying in the desert. I stood and tried to look for a village but I couldn’t find any. I fainted several times… When I woke up again, you were there. I don't remember anything before it. My name as well… don't know where I came from…

Miu: So…

Sora: I'd hoped it was a dream, But it seems like this is reality.

Fon: Miu

Miu: Welcome back. How was it?

Rui: It's still the same. All the water on the earth is polluted by the radioactivity. The safe fountainhead is getting continuously dry.

Sou: The other fountainheads are ruled by the King, and the price of water keeps increasing.

Kou: Although we work so hard all day, this is all the water we obtained.

Rui: At this rate, the poor will die of dehydration! The King must open the fountainhead to everyone!

Rui: Oh, you woke up already!

Fon: What were you doing in the desert? If Miu was had not discovered you, you would

Fon: Ten years ago, we were living in a village near the fountainhead. But the King's army attacked our village to plunder the fountainhead,and we were thrown out of our hometown. Now, while we wait for a chance to return, we travel from village to village like this.

Yun: We used to be part of a high-class Shinto society who were protecting the fountainhead. Now we sing and dance simply to stay optimistic.

I’m not sure if one’s really necessary these days, but I love to hear stories of fiction and worldly horrors! So, in order to someday write something of my own, I’ve decided to chronicle our travels.

Rui: In recent years, Japan has become a desert, simply divided into sections. Because there are no roads, we’re taking some rails that were used for something called “trains” back in the day and heading East. However, recently the number of robbers and mobs are increasing due to the rise in the price of water.

Rui: The inspection is strict as well. This travel is dangerous. Miu had not been smiling after Ran was gone,,but when Sora joined with us, she started smiling again ...it's occasional. But it's a lot better to see her smile than her sad face

Rui: Anyway, who's Sora at all? What happened to him at all? What about the relationship with Ran? All the answers are in Shangri-la! Let's go to the East! Kyoto, Nagoya, Shizuoka, Yokohama, Tokyo! Shangri-la is waiting for us!

Scene 6:

Ran: It was because of me. My plan was poor. Because I was willing too much to go back

home as soon as possible I ruined it all!

Fog: It's the same with me...

Ran: What?

Fog: I’m the same as you. I was able to finalize the purification process, but our technology wasn’t advancing fast enough. I wanted to speed things up, so I followed an invitation to Shangri-La when I heard that Pre-War technology still existed here.

Fog: But they were trying to monopolize the equipment! They didn’t want me, who completed the theory, to leave this place. That was why I tried to let people know about their plan.

Ran: That they were sealing the fountainhead so that they would make a profit...

Fog: Yes. But after all, I was caught and imprisoned.And the one who received the signal is here

Ran: It's all useless! I...thought of helping the people who were suffering because of water. I wanted to return the houses to those who lost their hometown ,But because of that! many of my colleagues were killed. I... lost my purpose...

Ran: Hey, is there any meaning of doing it? Everything is meaningless! It's better not to do anything! They even took my necklace… They might think of tricking my old colleagues and bring them here. I will... hurt my precious people again I would rather die with my colleagues!

Ran: Is this the Utopia? which I had been looking for?

Miu: Yes. Let's go, Sora!

Sora: Thank you… You, are actually kind.

Miu: I'll go ahead!

Mizore: Are you alright, Hyou?

Hyou: Yeah...

Mizore: Why did he...?

Hyou: He seemed like he does not remember anything. If not, why?!
