Well!
So first, let's clear a common misconception: no, President Abraham Lincoln did not love Black people nor see them as human equals. At best he was centrist about it (though, even his implication that 'exceptional' Black men ought to vote got him assassinated).
"My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do, it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union...I have here stated my purpose according to my view of official duty; and I intend no modification of my oft-expressed personal wish that all men everywhere could be free."
The "freeing of slaves" after the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 was meant to kneecap the economic and military powers of the seceded South. Lettuce stop making a white savior figure out of Lincoln, or thinking that my people's shackles were unchained via anything other than desperate war strategy and extreme violence. Think on that, for a moment.
That being said!
But not everyone in Confederate territory would immediately be free. Even though the Emancipation Proclamation was made effective in 1863, it could not be implemented in places still under Confederate control. As a result, in the westernmost Confederate state of Texas, enslaved people would not be free until much later. Freedom finally came on June 19, 1865, when some 2,000 Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250,000 enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed people in Texas.
Consider going through the Smithsonian website to learn about Juneteenth! Recognize why it's an actual day of freedom, versus July 4th and the independence of a select few.

Do you ever meet old friends that you love dearly, but it's like, one day you realise there's nothing common between you other than shared memories. For me, I was okay with that for a while but today I found myself feeling like I genuinely had nothing to talk to them about. So even though I still love them, idk if I can still be friends with them. But I can't lose them either, I don't know
Yeah. Before highschool graduation I told all my closest friends, “if we grow apart, I want you to know that this was still special and meant a lot. This was still important and I’m glad it happened”
And a lot of us did. A lot of us have. But it seems even though it can be a bit distant or awkward, we still care about each other, even if we’re different now, because we had something special even if it’s gone now
Like
The person I used to be still loves the person you used to be, and while they might be sad it’s over, I’m still glad to see you well
You know?
Feels like talking to ghosts sometimes. Kind of bitter, kind of sweet.
An overripe fruit kind of love.

"autistic people need instructions for every simple task" okay how about we talk about the neurotypicals not following clear instructions. what do you mean it didn't work the way you wanted, i gave you the instructions. oh you didn't follow them? you didn't see where i clearly indicated the directions you were supposed to follow for this task? and you're shocked it didn't turn out right? you decided to pull a Jared I'm 19 and go rogue? you're surprised the road less travelled isn't fucking paved because no one travels it? do you get off on this

Gonna chill out the rest of May and then change my entire life in June. Possibly July if that doesn't work out. Certainly no later than September or October.

joe biden should make it a law so that any time i fall asleep on the couch at night 400 cops have to come to my house and gently move me to my bed without waking me and then they all fall into a machine under the floor that grinds them up and converts them into a new kind of special gel that can be fed to elderly horses to make them sick

I got Rent-A-Coop's foldable brooder and it's reasonably nice. A tote or rabbit cage can function just as well and are far cheaper, however, I wanted something that could store easy and stay cleaner. It is the only brooder I know of commercially produced marketed towards companion chickens.
It's rather flimsy, if you have other pets, especially predators, I absolutely wouldn't allow access to the brooder. There are spaces cat paws could fit through with ease. The top would collapse if a cat or dog jumped on it.

Another negative is the color. Anyone who knows anything about chickens would not design their environment to be the Arousal Color. Red in chickens is a very important color and they are very clued into it. Poultry keepers for years have used red to indicate objects of importance to chickens, such as feeding and watering stations. Making their world red rather inhibits this conditioning. I am not sure if there is or will be a long-term impact to using this brooder on the birds' association with the color, or if it stresses them to be immersed in it at all times, so take this criticism with a grain of salt.
I suppose I could always paint it, if I really wanted to.

The swing is dumb. A waste of plastic which could have been used to create an adjustable, plastic perch.
The downward nipple attachment to the fountain leaks. The other 2 choices for attachments function fine, my favorite being the nipple with a catcher around it.

Lastly, I cannot understand the thought process behind puppy pads and jute liners being included. Perhaps it's just because they're easier to ship? Chickens like to scratch. Bedding helps them feel safe and secure. Before I got home from work I had my brother set up the brooder, and he opted for the puppy pads. The chicks certainly did not approve and by the time I got home they were miserable and crying because they couldn't get comfortable under their heater. I corrected this promptly.
The only time I would use puppy pads would be for ill birds so I could closely monitor their feces. Otherwise using bedding (such as mini flakes or hemp) absorbs moisture, prevents odor, and helps keep their feet clean.
With all these criticisms you might thing I dislike this product; however I do actually like it. I am simply very invested in the welfare of my birds.
I do think this brooder is a good purchase for those who know what they're buying. The food and water stations (minus that downward nipple) have intuitive designs. The heat plate functions well, though my chicks actually prefer their old Electric Hen branded heater, I suspect because she's yellow and this electric mother is red.
Being plastic, it's easier to sanitize. It's stackable. I like that I can fill the water from the outside. It's a good size, I wouldn't mind if it were bigger.
I'm not sure if the $260 price tag is justifiable and I have a hard time picturing this hunk of corrugated plastic lasting more than 2 or 3 years, honestly. But we'll see!
It wouldn't be hard to convince myself to buy more and just keep stacking them.
I'll definitely be replacing all my food and water stations with Rent-A-Coop's products at any rate because they fuck.
#interesting#that look waaaaay too flimsy for that price#but i am Looking at that front opening door#i could replicate that no problem
