How a lawn mower engine operates

To keep your lawn mower kept and running it is important to know the way that it works. 

To start with, a gas lawn mower has a 2 stroke or 4-stroke engine.

By spinning its flywheel you start a lawn mower. 

This can be done with a manual pull cord or an electrical starter. 

Once you start it, it will continue on its own till it stops.

Engine functioning

The power that spins the blades comes from the motion of a piston. The piston gets its power from explosion of fuel in the combustion chamber. 

The combustion chamber has two ports. 

One is for consumption of atmosphere and fuel whilst the other is the exhaust port. 

Atmosphere and fuel comes in throug the down stroke. This mixture of fuel and air normally ignite throughout the up throw. 

In a two stroke engine, an upward and down cycle of the piston causes a turning of the rotating shaft. 

In a four stroke engine, there are two down cycles and two up for each twist.

It is important to bear in mind that the engine needs to be lubricated from overheating due to frictional force to avoid the metal components.

Purpose of the carburetor

It is the carburetor which provides the right mixture of air and fuel.

In the event the mixture has too much atmosphere, the fuel will burn hot causing the engine to lack power. In the event the mixture has too little atmosphere economically not burn and this may lead to creation of smoke.
