Colour Scheme
I stuck to this colour palette, the primary colours being darker tones simply due to the theme of the spooky theme of the Lighthouse Hotel.

Wayfinding Inspiration
Before creating my wayfinding and navigation signs, I looked at some already existing wayfinding examples particularly those within a hotel setting. Some that really inspired me include:
These were the primary examples and the very few I found extremely inspirational. I really admire the second and last design, the second being a bit more vintage compared to the third which is far more modern. The colours used on the third seem to be in my favour but the overall aesthetic and design on the second seem to match more. Perhaps I could create something similar using inspiration from the two.

Logo Experimenting
Here includes the original logo. Below include some experimenting.
Here, I took a very subtle approach and modified certain aspects of the logo. I planned to go for a slightly more modern and friendly logo. I also changed the colour to black.

Technical Skills and Production - Visual Language Workshop
This workshop session was one I really enjoyed. Ive always been a fan of using the most simple assets to create great looking logos and doing more with less. The session definitely helped me in creating my Point of Ayr Lighthouse Logo

Developing....
I scanned the sketch and began experimenting digitally
The first thing I did was work with black and white in Illustrator to create the top floor part to the logo.
I also added in the top of the lighthouse using inspiration from Point of Ayr Lighthouse pictures
I then added my haunted symbol using shapes I had created and merged together to form this logo.
I then added my typeface ‘Cinzel’ below to create this.
I began to experiment with different shapes and had thought about creating a lighthouse logo but decided to keep a simple approach and had use part of the lighthouse iinstead.
After this, I changed the colour to a slightly lighter dark tone and added a ring around the lighthouse to create the final form of the logo below.

Chosen Logo and Typeface
In the end, I decided to move forward with this logo as it looked recognisable and looked the most flexible but also professional.
TYPEFACE
After scouting around for some typefaces, I came upon ‘Cinzel’ which is a serif typeface which gives off a medieval vibe. I really liked the spookiness to the typeface and thought it was a perfect fit to compliment the logo considering how it wasnt too gothic or celtic.

Picking and Choosing Ideas
I narrowed down the ideation pages to select 5 logos which I really admired. I selected the following:
This logo includes an illustration of the top of a Lighthouse with a creepy symbol. Already, I felt like this logo was the one I felt most comfortable with and believed it was my strongest idea.
This logo includes the single text ‘Ayr’ in a gothic/spooky typeface which I thought could work quite well also.
This logo includes a lighthouse with an eye replacing the light. I had a lot of thought regarding this logo as I thought it was clever for a spooky feeling however, i felt it was a little demonic or strange for a lighthouse.
I also illustrated a figure with many lines to signify a spirit. This figure is based of the haunted stories told by many people who say there was a man who passed away in the Lighthouse whose spirit now haunts the lighthouse. I thought it would be a cool idea but perhaps not too recognisable for a lighthouse.
‘The Keepers House’ is a text based logo idea I had. I thought this would work well as it relates to other somewhat vintage/gothic places such as some pubs or Inns. My inspiration for this was the Inn nearby to the lighthouse called ‘Red Lion Inn’
