Prompts: I combined @m0nsterbrains‘s request for “lap-sitting smooches” with a very old suggestion I was given for the Reader as “ that one barmaid that won’t sleep with anyone until she’s ready to make an exception for our handsome captain” Words: 1269

You’re laughing and singing with the group of sailors that are hoping to get you to dance with them, but behind your smile you are already planning your retreat. There is an art to tending bar in a town like this; you want to provide good company without ever seeming to be promising more. The laughing men are drawing you through the room, but you’re going to veer off to the left as soon as you get past this row of tables, leaving them to continue carousing while you get back to work.

Your plans are interrupted by strong arms that wrap around your waist from the right, pulling you down. You squeal in protest, but the sound dies when you see who’s got you in his clutches—Charles Vane, one of the most notorious pirating captains in the islands.

It’s not fear, exactly, that silences your protest, although it’s certainly fear that causes your exuberant companions to back off and leave you alone; all Vane has to do is peer at them from under his heavy brows, and his reputation does all the rest.

Bucky had thought about many possibilities during his sleepless nights.

He thought about every way his life could go. Every scenario. Every bad and good thing that could happen to him.

But he had never thought about falling in love.

He never thought he would go to sleep with a girl in his arms. He never thought there would be somebody to hug him after his nightmares. He never thought of finding peace in somebody.

Then there was you. The girl who curls up to his chest during long nights. The girl who makes him chuckle at the smallest thing. The girl who bakes cookies for him. The girl who kisses him good morning every morning.The girl who brushes his hair after his showers. The girl who makes him feel alive after decades.

“Hey, pretty girl.” Bucky said softly as he walked inside the living room. You were sitting on the couch, your laptop in your lap, writing a mission report. You smiled when you saw Bucky which made his heart swell. You put your laptop on the coffee table in front of you. He walked up to you and kissed your hair before kissing your lips slowly. You smiled into the kiss. He sat next to you after breaking the kiss.

“I missed you.” you said and kissed his cheek, making him close his eyes with peace. He pulled you to his lap and kissed you again.

“I missed you too, angel.” he said and buried his head in your hair. You two stayed like that for a while, relaxing in each other’s arms.

Anything else besides you didn't matter for Bucky at that moment. He only wanted to keep you in his arms forever. He wanted to feel the warmth of your skin on his forever. He wanted to smell your scent, hear your heartbeat forever.

“Bucky, I really have to finish this report.” you said as you looked at him, your head still on his chest. You tried to move but Bucky only wrapped his arms around you tighter.

“Bucky!” you whined and he chuckled.

“Report later. Cuddles now. I missed my girl.” he said and you gave up, putting your head on his shoulder.

“What am I supposed to tell Tony?”

“I’ll talk to him. I just want to hold my girl now. I missed you, dollface.” he mumbled and you smiled, kissing his chin.

“Okay.” you mumbled to his neck and Bucky sighed.

Moments like this, Bucky felt like everything was worth it. Each second of the last 70 years was worth it because in the end, he had you in his arms. And he wanted to keep you forever.

“I love you, James.” you interrupted his thoughts. He looked at you, your cheek pressed to his chest, looking up at him. He wanted to keep you there, right next to his heart, forever.

“I love you too, angel.” he mumbled to your hair.

And he couldn’t help but think everything he went through was definitely worth it.

Because every second of it led him to you, and you were worth it.

“I’ve told you a thousand times, Juice. I haven’t fucked anyone else.” You were almost screaming, but trying to overpower music that was coming from the clubhouse.

The loud electric guitar of some old rock song was roaring in your ears, even though you and Juice were standing inside the TM garage locked away from the party turmoil. At some point during the party, the man had pulled you out here roughly, his hand wrapped tightly around your wrist and his eyes full of anger. “Oh, yeah? That’s not what I heard those prospects talk about in there.” He retorted, his eyes fixed on you. “They’re just prospects, Juice. They love to brag when it comes to women, even though they’ve never stuck their dicks inside anyone.” You responded angrily, not understanding how he could believe such gossip. “They’re joking around like that, that’s just how they are.” “Didn’t seem like joking to me.” Juice hissed, not doubting his suspicion in any way. “Yeah, that’s ‘cause you’re drunk and can’t comprehend shit right now.” You noted harshly, your own drunkenness clouding your thoughts. “And even if I had fucked one of the others, what’s the big deal? It’s not like I’m your old lady or something.”

It was true, you weren’t his old lady. You were just having some fun together. Casually sleeping with each other, mostly drunken fumblings after long club party nights. Even though, if you were being honest to yourself, you wouldn’t mind this thing between you getting more serious. Over the course of the last few weeks, your little crush on Juice had developed into something more, whether you liked it or not. 

“Yeah, you’re not.” Juice responded angrily, “Doesn’t mean you get to fuck around.”
