When Ratchet was married to Lockdown, he developed a complex about his body. Did he develop a fear of food?

When he first started dating Optimus and Ironhide, he tried to hide it, but these two noticed anyway, but they tried not to push him too much. They just offered to take a little more side dish, a piece of meat, or take a little more dessert.

Also, was Ratchet afraid to undress in front of Optimus and Ironhide at first? How did they react to the doctor's extreme thinness the first time?

It's not so much a fear of food as a fear of Lockdown's reaction to his eating it. Lockdown, alongside being manipulative, was fatphobic. When they went out to a restaurant, Ratchet found himself often ordered smaller portions and of healthier options. Maybe a medium salad with a light dressing as opposed to one loaded with croutons, eggs, bacon pieces, etc. That, or Ratchet found Lockdown had ordered for him while he stepped away from the table.

Ratchet didn't realize at first what Lockdown was doing to him. But the problem was that once it dawned on him, he wasn't sure how to stop it.

Sometimes he would grab fast food on the way home, starving after a double shift, and find himself unable to get the biggest meal on the menu, afraid that somehow Lockdown would know.

I really like this one post I made awhile back where after a double date, Ironhide ordered Ratchet the greasiest, biggest burger on the menu bc the medic had been craving it, but Lockdown stopped him from ordering.

Despite the warning bells going off in his head, Lockdown's voice clawing at his skull, Ratchet knew he was in a safe place and for the first time in a while, devoured that burger with gusto.

So when the trio began dating, there was always that push for Ratchet to consume more. Never forcefully. He knew the two were doing it out of concern and care, because when he did undress in front of them for the first time, he paled in comparison to them. Their hugs swallowed him up and when he had to borrow Optimus’s shirt, he found himself swimming in the fabric.

He knew things needed to change and that he was safe and loved now (though it took a while for him to truly believe he deserved their love.) So he began to eat more, often asking for seconds, or Optimus would cook some extra food without being prompted and give it to the medic. Sometimes, Optimus and Ironhide would come home to find Ratchet cooked them dinner, and Ratchet had cooked what he wanted to eat and the portion he wanted.

He noticed his mood improved when he wasn't hungry and realized just how exhausted his body had been.

All of his self-care and healing was realized one morning when Ironhide rolled over and slung an arm over him, pulling him closer. The soldier’s hand lay over his belly and those thick digits squeezed. Ironhide made a pleased little rumble in his half-sleep, and it was the first time Ratchet realized he had put weight back on. The small swell of his belly rested comfortably in Ironhide’s palm, and later Ironhide would hum contentedly as he groped at the medic’s pecs which had filled out.

Ratchet, for the first time in a long time, felt loved and content in his own body.

The home the trio lives in was inherited by Optimus and it needs a little love/fixing up. The trio has just finished cleaning up a spare room and seeing as they don't need another office or guest bedroom, Optimus opens it to the group for suggestions.

Ironhide: We could make it a workout room. Add some weight benches, mats, maybe a punching bag.

How did Optimus and Ironhide tell Ratchet about Ironhide's nature? Did they decide to tell him or was it an accident? Was Ratchet just being cautious at first or was he scared deep down but trying not to show it so as not to offend Optimus and Ironhide?

The discovery was almost by accident. Optimus and Ironhide had meant to tell Ratchet, but they were all busy and time slipped past them. It was only on the eve of the next full moon when Ironhide was becoming increasingly irritable that Ratchet learned the truth.

Optimus had come to realize when Ironhide's transformation was nearing as he became more angry and impatient. He knew how to bring Ironhide's ire down and had come to terms that it was only the full moon and didn't take it personally if the old soldier snapped at him (both verbally and physically).

But Ratchet hadn't experienced this yet. This sudden shift in Ironhide frightened him and he recoiled when the man growled and snapped at him for something seemingly innocuous.

The look of terror on Ratchet's face revealed all as the medic excused himself and left to go back to his car. They weren't living together yet.

Optimus immediately went out to stop him leaving and he found Ratchet having a mental breakdown in his car.

The medic revealed that Lockdown was also a monster shifter (I haven't decided what creature yet) and had multiple times physically injured Ratchet in his rage.

Ratchet admitted he was terrified and seeing Ironhide like that brought up so much pain.

Optimus apologized for not telling Ratchet sooner, but that he didn't need to fear Ironhide. Yes, he got more irritable and his need for excess calories to fuel his transformation caused him to be always hungry, but Ironhide had never injured him.

He revealed Ironhide had been used as a weapon in the army and was treated like shit by his comrades, like he truly was no more than a stray. Ironhide could tell him more, but Optimus assured him that Ironhide vowed never to hurt another being.

And to cheer Ratchet up, Optimus let Ratchet in on the secret that this angry side of him was really only the first day or two. During the actual full moon, it was a coin toss of whether Ironhide was in the mood for cuddles and belly rubs, or if he wanted to spend the next 24 hours fucking them through the mattress. It was always fun to find out which one.

But it could take a day or two for Ironhide to change back, and Ironhide's soft fur made for amazing snuggles. At his age, the shift could be painful and exhausting, which meant Ironhide slept a lot in the aftermath.

Ratchet agreed to come back inside and Ironhide apologized profusely.

The medic would learn that month Ironhide was more in a playful mood. Which was good because he would need to work up a few sizes to prepare for Ironhide’s horny days.

I also want to add that Ironhide has the ability to shift at will outside of a full moon, but it takes far more energy and can leave him exhausted for days, sometimes even making him sick if he pushes himself too much during the transformation.
