“ get a grip, pal. seriously. you don’t even LOOK evil! “

“ as your arch nemesis, i feel it’s only right to worry when you start doing my job for me. “

The ones we leave behind

Short prequel fic, Roman angst, Remus angst, demons/angels au so there’s that.

Summary: Angels-in-training have to go through several trials before they’re deemed fit to go to Earth and help others, and Roman and Remus are on the final test... Then things go wrong.

It should have been easy.

For any and every other soul it had been. For him it had been.

The person ahead of Roman took a step forward, their elegant robes gliding against the gentle clouds below them. Roman followed behind with equal grace. His brother followed behind matching him- well matching Roman until he decided to break the silence.

”Why are we doing this?” Remus whispered, Roman could barely hold back an irritated sigh.

”We’re walking towards the gate, once we arrive we’ll be branded as angels and be able to help people.”

Remus nodded, “Okay…“ There were a few seconds of blessed silence where Roman could feel the weight of the weight of what was to come on his shoulder and yet still press on to follow the line.

Another step towards greatness, towards being able to help those with far less power learn and grow-

“Why are there so many people ahead of us? This can’t be fair, the people in the back of the line are just way more likely to break pattern then those up front.”

Roman closed his eyes tightly then opened them, “It doesn’t matter if it’s fair, what matters is your dedication. You should know this Remus, you went to the same courses, the same other trials as I did… Why are you asking so many questions anyway?”

Remus shrugged, “I don’t know,“ his face broke into a wide grin and his eyes gained a twinkle of mirth. “What do you think would happen if you stepped out of line- or better yet just run straight to the front and hop off! Do you think they’d let you splatter?”

“That’s not funny Remus.”

Remus’s grin only widened, “Aww, what’s the matter princey? Think they’d let me fall? Or worse do you think I would Fall?” He held his foot out to the right slightly, “Oh no! I’m out of line! Ugh, I can feel my selfhood changing as I become a monster!” He clutched his chest, “Ack- save me brother!”

Roman couldn’t help but chortle then rolled his eyes, “Will you stop that and stay focused for once? This is super important.”

Another step forward, another step towards destiny.

”If it’s soooo important, isn’t it worth questioning?”

Another step towards kindness, goodness, love.

”This is so boring? Think we could sneak out of it?“

Another step with only the purest of thoughts in his mind and his soul.

”Aww come on Ro- decided to stop talking to me? My thoughts too vile for his highness of goodness and light?”

It didn’t matter how many steps it was really, it could be infinite but it would be worth it to open others eyes to the warmth of the universe.

“Okay, quit it with the silent act, we get it, you’re perfect, I’m not. You’re going to go out there and see the world and become great and I’ll be stuck here having to retake those STUPID tests and redo that STUPID homework until the end of time!”

He just needed to focus, he kept walking forward, following the line, eventually Remus’s voice fazed out of his mind as he focused his entire being on the line, the goodness he could do.

If asked, he couldn’t name the exact moment he knew it had happened. But he knew the silence had lasted far too long, a small part of him hoped Remus had learned, that he’d realized the pointlessness of all his questions and comments and decided to join him on focusing on important things.

The other part of him knew better.

He glanced behind him and saw another angel in training but no sign of his brother.

Another step, the shining light of the gate’s rays touched his skin, filling him with warm, loving light. Soon he’d be a true angel, and his purpose would include saving the souls of those who thought the world was lost.

And one day, he’d be able to save his brother.

Drabble #1, prompt 32!

“Why do you stay with them? You don’t deserve to be treated like this, no one does.”

Hurt/comfort, platonic Intrulogical, sympathetic Remus and Logan. Blood and injuries are involved.

Logan dabbed the blood around Remus’s eye. It was the third time this week with some kind of injury. He wished he could assume this was just a result of messing around in the Imagination, But he knew better. There were only three ways a side could experience changes to their body 1. Thomas or another side effected them in some way (Roman being bruised after his ego was ‘bruised’, Janus’s scales when Thomas started to view lying as demonic and associated him with snakes, etc.) 2. The side desired to change appearance (most shape shifting actions) 3. A side’s view of themselves forces them to change (Patton’s transformation). It had to be one of the dark sides again.

Remus grinned, “You’ve been staring into my eyes for a while nerd, are you falling for me? Or maybe...” He put his hands in front of his face and there was a loud pop as he took them out of their sockets and held them up, “Do you want to keep them? I’ve got plenty!”

Logan frowned at the mild inconvenience, the ’blood’ dripping from sockets was hardly ideal to cleaning up the actual blood on his face. “No thank you. I would like you to get rid of as much blood as you can from your face though. It makes it difficult to see and clean your actual injuries.“

Remus swallowed his eyes whole and they reappeared in his face and most of the blood on his face vanished, leaving only the three long deep bleeding gnashes (claws if Logan were to guess) on his face.

As if reading Logan’s mind, Remus said, “And here’s the most recent results of ‘Remus pranks gone wrong!‘ I changed how the living room was arranged and Wrath wasn’t paying attention and stubbed his toe. Ho boy, you should have seen his face when he realized it was me!“ He cackled manically.

Logan put the sterile water on a hand towel and pressed it against the wound, “You really shouldn’t antagonize the other’s so much.” Being almost completely unable to influence Thomas had driven many of them to harming others in the hopes that their actions will create even a whisper in Thomas’s mind a hint of acknowledgement.

“You know as well as I do that wouldn’t change things,“ he was right, “I might as well have a little fun if they’re going to hurt me anyway.” Logan couldn’t help the crack of a smile across his lips. Of course that would be Remus’s view of it. Everything was fun and games until the damage became too big for him to fix. The bruises on his arms. The slashes against his legs, almost every part of him had some sign of damage.

“Why do you stay with them?” His voice was soft, Remus was going to get slaughtered if he stayed there, “You don’t deserve to be treated like this,“ he moved to hold his hand, “no one does.”

Remus hummed, “Are you offering me a place to stay? How noble of you, though I will warn you that I spend half of my time screaming into the void and the other half masturb-“

He started to wrap Remus’s face in gauze, “No-no I do not think it would be a good idea to have Thomas’s Logic and the darker half of his imagination in the same place. I need to be able to rebuke your more... Harmful ideas and that would be difficult with you constantly here and constantly stating different ideas.”

Remus pouted, “Than what’s the plan noose-tie? Or was that ‘no one deserves this stuff’ just pity fluff?”

Logan closed his eyes and took a deep breath, in and out. The truth was freedom and Thomas needed to know the truth about himself to make real decisions about who he was and who he was going to be.

“It’s time to destroy the dark side.”

“Patton will never go for that.”

Logan nodded, “Neither will Janus. But... I think it’s the only real way for this to end and is extremely important for Thomas’s growth.”

Remus stood up and stretched, every bone in his body cracking in the process, “Well then nerd, it looks like we have an alliance... And a shit ton of work to do.”
