The funny thing is that despite the many surface-level similarities between Mettaton Undertale and Tenna Deltarune; both being rectangular, charismatic TV Hosts who subject the Player Characters to many TV-Themed Minigames and a ‘score’ based Sparing Mechanic
And they even have a very similar taste is suits!
On a deeper character/thematic level, they’re actually total opposites.
Mettaton is the Underground’s only celebrity and main source of entertainment, he’s highly watched and highly popular (Well, within the standards of the Underground, it's implied they are just not that many Monsters around). Meanwhile Tenna’s whole thing is that he’s been abandoned and ignored by the whole Dreemurr family. Outcompeted and overshadowed by the many other sources of entertainment in the modern Light World.
And while Tenna is motivated by an obsessive desire to not be abandoned ever again, to keep Toriel and the Fun Gang on his shows forever… One of Mettaton’s biggest flaws is his tendency to abandon those he’s close to. He pretty much cut ties with Shyren and Napstablook when he became a star.
And he’s been growing distant from Alphys as well.
And, actually his whole darn motivation is to abandon the Underground in search of even greater fame on the surface.
His Pacifist Ending is all about him confronting that flaw in himself, understanding how important he is to the Monsters of the Underground and deciding that he should stay so he can keep bringing his brand of entertainment, joy and glamour to the people who needs it.
While Tenna’s Happy Ending is about helping him to get over his obsessive neediness to entertain specifically the Dreemurr family, and realizing he can move on to someone else, to someplace else, who will actually watch him.
On a deeper thematic level... I think you can also talk about how Mettaton is driven by his Dreams, while Tenna seeks Hope.
And also, I always saw Mettaton as representing modernity for the Underground.
Due to his human-fanboyism and fascination with the Surface, Mettaton has ended up creating and/or promoting a lot of aspects of modern human culture in the Underground. Mass media entertainment, merchandise, trademarks, fast-food, minimum-wage retail jobs, unions…
All of these things seem to exist in the Underground primarily or entirely due to Mettaton’s influence.
Every other Boss/Main Character has some kind of ‘official position’ in the Kingdom's traditional power-structure; Sentry, Royal Guard Captain, Royal Scientist, King, Queen, Prince… Mettaton is a creation of the Royal Scientist, but on his own he’s just a rich and famous celebrity. That's kind of a modern concept in it and of itself, since it kinda requires the existence of a mass media culture....
Or hell, just the fact that he’s the one Monster in the game who seems to have no real respect/loyalty for the Monarchy, and is actually working against him…
Both out of his individual sense of morality (he cares for the Humans) but also for the sake of the very modern goal of mass fame.
And of course on the most obvious level he’s a technologically-advanced robot whose ‘zone’ is the most tech-themed part in the game. (Zones? if you wanna count Hotland and the CORE as separate areas. Either way it's true of both when compared to the rest of the Underground.)
And Tenna is obviously the exact opposite of this. He and his Dark World are still kinda tech-themed in the sense that he is a Darkner based on a household electronic device, but he’s still clearly supposed to stand as a vast contrast to the much-more advanced techy-themed Darkners of Cyber City. He’s specifically meant to be themed after outdated and old-fashioned technology
And the concept of Nostalgia.
… In a way, despite Undertale being a very 2010’s game and despite the Underground being established to have 2010's technology such as Social Media… Mettaton's being primarily a TV Star with TV Show theming in most of his encounters is a very 20th century sort of concept. To use the Television as a shorthand for the concept of modernity.
Obviously that works within Undertale because that is a very familiar cultural shorthand and also it does make sense within the Very Particular Technological and Cultural Framework of the Underground… But with Deltarune being both a much newer game and taking place in a world much closer to our own, I guess it makes sense to instead use the TV to symbolize the past, outdated technology and nostalgic yearning.

Mini Deltarune Chapter 5 Theory
I'll go ahead and just tell you the main idea of my theory and then will present all of the evidence. I personally believe that the Chapter 5 Dark World will take place in the Flower King and that Noelle will join us in it. Okay so, I was doing whatever when a random thought popped into my head about the secret section in chapter 3. Specifically, the part where you acquire the "White Cloak" and use them to begin freezing the enemies in the game. That's all pretty normal. It very clearly feels like its sorta rehash of what happens in the Weird Route up to that point (there's even that part where you use the white cloak to freeze a bird that's blocking your progression). The monsters featured in the game seem to just be stand ins for when you froze over Darkners in the cyber world. Though, there is one enemy that really caught my attention.
The flowers that appear throughout the game. Golden flowers are a big part of Undertale, so when they were enemies in the game it really got my attention. I was wondering what the reason was, and I may have a semblance of an answer if there is any meaning behind them at all. I think they may serve as foreshadowing for an enemy type that Noelle will be able to freeze in the future. They feel really out of place among all of the generic looking monsters, making them stand out from them. And where exactly would we find flower Darkners? In a Flower King Dark World. We could totally find some elsewhere but them being in a Dark World in the Flower King makes the most sense. So, overall, I believe that that part in the chapter 3 secret game section is foreshadowing for the future of the Weird Route with Noelle. Now, why do I think the Chapter 5 Dark World is going to happen in the Flower King? Its because of how much set up there has been for Asgore in Chapter 4. I'm just gonna do bullet points for this. REASONS WHY FLOWER KING IS PROBABLY GONNA BE NEXT - Asgore talking about making Toriel finally see that he was just trying to keep people safe - Him talking about a "Black Shard" that he has while alone. I know that some people's first thought was that the black shard was a shadow crystal...but shadow crystals don't look like black shards in the light world. They look like glass, right? I think Asgore, for some reason, just has a black shard. Like the one that you can get from the Knight if you "beat" them. It's still weird that he has that, though. How did you get that, Asgore. - The image that seemingly depicts Asgore in the Chapter 4 Dark World that says above "The Flower Man, Trapped in Asylum" - Gerson's description of Chapter 5 of Lord of the Hammer being "The vast garden is charred in an inferno of jealousy". - The fact that Sans and Toriel are seen dancing at the end of Chapter 4 - And lastly, the fact that you can peak into the Flower King and see a cork board I believe....? I forget exactly but I'm pretty sure you can see a conspiracy board or something? Either way, it interesting that you can now peak in and see something like that. e I know that most people believe that Chapter 5 is going to take place there. I just figured I'd lay out all of the evidence I know of for the sake of supporting this little theory. Anyway! That's all, I believe that the Chapter 5 Dark World will take place in the Flower King and that Noelle will join us in it. Am I thinking too hard about the Noelle part? Probably. But it's just something to think about.

…So I had two main thoughts about the new pieces of ‘Hidden Dialogue’ that dropped with Chapters 3 + 4.
First things first… with the Mystery Person describing their surroundings as ‘Dark’ previously, and, y’know, the whole darn premise of this game, it’s reasonable to assume that Mystery Someone is trapped in some sort of Dark World. But… now they’re saying that they have no need for food or sleep while they’re ‘here’.
Which does not seem to match with how Lightners generally experience the Dark Worlds.
So there seems to be something Unique going on with this person. Maybe they’re, like, on Dark World Life Support? Halfway between being a Lightner and being a Gerson-Style Darkner-Ghost?
And second of all…
They’re describing the start of Deltarune. This is how Susie and Kris first fell to the Dark World in Chapter 1.
Maybe this could just be a generic nightmare, but... this is a pretty important scene, so I think parallels to it should not be taken lightly. It feels intentional, y'know? So… this Mystery Person has been haunted by nightmares of being in the Opening of Deltarune…
But assuming this dialogue is updating with the Chapters in ‘Real Time’ it’s probably not Kris or Susie, the people who actually experienced that scene (Even if Kris is possessed they can still clearly sense the world around them and we know Susie doesn’t fit the speech patterns at all)
So… I’m wondering again about the speculation that the Prophecy has already gone off-course and one or more of our main trio are not actually of the ‘real’ Prophesied Heroes. What if this Mystery Person is/was supposed to be one of the Three Heroes, dreaming of their ‘fate’ before it was veered off-the-rails?
The real ‘Prince from the Dark’ would make some amount of sense, since although this person seems to a Lightner (describing an ordinary life in the real world), they are certainly in a place that’s very dark and very lonely…
Has Asriel gotten himself into some Weird-Ass Metaphysical Shit while in College?
But Dess as the real Hero of 'The Girl' epitaph (y’know the one who is does not have Susie's trademark axe)
would make a lot of sense. Dess is already the most likely candidate for the Mystery Hidden Dialogue Person, since she is also the one person we already know is “Missing”. (Well, her and Gaster I guess but this dialogue doesn’t match the speech patterns of the other Gaster-assumed dialogue).

Memez theory analysis ramble #2:
SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRETY OF TPOT 17.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

.
.
.

.
I’m dedicating a entire post to just the scenes with One and Doughnut because it tells us so much about One as a person:

Her demeanour throughout the altercation is something I’d like to bring light to.
One as a character is a manipulator who weaponises gaslighting by learning the characters psychologies to put them under pressure using her facade to sign as we’re all…..very aware by now.
What we learned here is are her downfalls: Temper and ego.

This is the face of someone who’s overly confident in everything she does, here she was not anticipating any failure in her plans.
I mean how could she possibly fail right, after all she’s tricked so many contestants-

And then reality hits.
Her egos down, she didn’t rehearse for this.
Now: let’s observe who one actually is under her act.

She resorts to violence to start with, trying to get a fear response from Doughnut.

Success: Ego back up tenfold.
She feels safe, like she has the upper hand.
So she starts her downfall: She starts giving Doughnut more information than he should know.
After all he’s going to take the deal, they all take the deal.
He can’t possibly escape and tell everyone after he just signs that little contract.

And so like the hawk she is she swoops back in to claim her prize, here she thinks she’s won in crushing the tough nut.
……unfortunately for her Doughnut is smarter then that and questions her, she hates being questioned as it ruins her whole shtick.

“Ughhh don’t worry about that Doughnut, after all is it so crazy to believe I’m just trying to help you?”
Mocking, condescending, setting up her “finishing blow”.

“Those friends of yours all agreed to it and look at all the fun they’re having!”
She can’t help herself and besides he’ll never get the chance to tell anyone so why not take the chance to unconsciously gloat to someone about it?

But it doesn’t work, he keeps questioning, second guessing and not trusting her act.
So she snaps and goes nuclear and goes to what she thinks everyone is can’t resist, themselves:

She tries acting like his friend one final little time, going with her plan B she set up.
She lays it all out, everything she knows about him and all the things in his life she rigged to happen in one last desperate attempt to regain control.

“Everyone gets to be a little selfish, it’s only fair.”
This is the line I’m going to go on a tangent on, it shows why One can do this guilt free.
She’s self justifying it constantly in her mind with a positive feedback loop, through her own delusions she sees fact.
It makes you wonder why she’s doing this and supports what I said last time, I still theorise she’s not here for the power, she’s here to make sure Two is powerless for her own pettiness.
One is a heavily Toxic abuser type person, she has warped morals that she bends to justify their own behaviour to herself subconsciously to get her own goals satisfied.
She has a ego or (at least acts like she has one to further her agenda) and will stop at nothing to the point of almost ending the universe to satisfy her needs.
And if she was friends with Two it would make sense if she used these manipulative tendencies on them and the other algibralians.

The scene with Six I will now circle back to basically confirms what I’ve been theorising with one quote: “She was supposed to be gone.”.
We have half her motive, this seemingly confirms One was exiled from the playground.
For what is yet to be seen.
Now let’s talk about the ending of the scene: What happens when someone defies her.
Let’s watch shall we:
She’s failed to make this man stoop to her level proving her psychology is wrong so she snaps, she’s never encountered this before.
She wants to feel like she’s won so she turns to a power trip, in a moment of rage she rips Doughnuts legs off and kicks him off to affirm to herself that she got the last laugh here and that letting him go is no issue.
I mean what can one man do without limbs-

And this right here is where I theorise Ones downfall begins, she got greedy adding Doughnut: a person who she knew could be a problem into the plan.
And where did it leave her?

With a wild card with context clues about what she was planning and with information about what’s behind her act on the loose, in her own greed I theorise she set in motion her demise.

And the kicker is even at the end she’s still affirming to herself that she didn’t really fail here by flying head first into the sun and that Doughnut was “just for good luck.“.
So I end off this essay of a post with a question: If this is how she treats her victims how did she treat her “friends”?
Thank you viewer for reading, the follow up to this will contain an analysis on Pencil (probably my favourite contestant by now) along with a few other misc things I want to talk about as this is already pushing it for this ted talk of a post.

Somebody actually made something close to a full decision tree map for Slay the Princess.
1. Can't wait to see how much messier this gets in a week. This doesn't even include optional or exploratory dialogue! 2. See, this is why we didn't build a timeline for you to jump into.

How I Animate
The Technique:
I draw the frames and then I use the liquify tool to push the lines into the next frame and redraw them where I need to. This allows me to keep the lines consistent, but gives me the control of frame by frame animation bc I am still making each frame manually! I also use 3d models as reference to help me with the angles! Super important to use reference while you animate (and with art in general), if youre no good handling 3d models then act it out and record yourself!
The Theory:
i think most people are at least loosely familiar with the 12 principles of animation (if youre not, heres a 2.5 minute video showcasing them!), but may not necessarily know how to employ them. the main 3 i tend to focus on when I animate is rhythm, telegraphing, and inertia so ill cover those there 👍
1. Timing & Rhythm
Timing is how you space out your frames both in how long an individual frame is held for, and also when you drawn an inbetween of two frames you can favour one frame slightly more than the other instead of drawing the exact average of the cels, giving the favoured cel more timing weight.
Left line has the cels evenly spaced out on the timeline, right holds the first cel for longer and the second cel slightly favours the last frame. It creates a more interesting rhythm to the animation! Rhythm is how I think of animation timing. Theres a beat like a song to every animation I make, and creating an interesting beat is what makes an animation fun to watch (for me, anyway):
2. Anticipation / Telegraphing
Before I animate a big change in movement, I like to telegraph that its coming. Usually this is doing a little counter movement in the opposite direction, but thats not the only way to telegraph a motion, e.g. eye movement can telegraph a head turn!
3. Follow-through / Overshoot / Inertia
Unless the movement is mechanical, it wont come to a hard stop and will have some level of bounce or easing out to it. How much "bounce" you add will have a big impact on how the animation feels, but a very subtle bounce will add a natural feeling to the end of a motion.
Secondary animations will use a lot of this, note that the head and the hand have a small amount of continuous motion (primary animation), and then the hair has a lot of bounce and inertia (secondary animation which reacts to the primary animation). Note the different amounts applied to the braid vs the sideburn vs the bangs
anyway! I hope this was insightful ❤️ if you like my art you can commission me by the by :)
