people are clowning on this guy on reddit but uhhh let's pause for a minute and ask...so what happens if someone has a skin condition? what if part of their face has been burned? what if they're missing their eyes? and so what if they just have a fuckton of tattoos? recognition algorithms are aligned with the most ""average"" / ""normal"" features which means any deviation gets denied access to shit we didnt need age verification for 1 year ago. i dont care if it's a choice versus not, dont care if it's accessing porn or wikipedia, this needs to stop

goodness i havent done one of these in a while . hai everypony . anwyays.

the context to the comic is that pt was pushing for dm to take his scarf off but he was reacting Very poorly and flat out refusing.

petey needs him to take the scarf off bc he needs to include the actual stitches and the dichotomy between dog head and human body in his art . thats how he thinks hes gonna get the disturbing piece he needs . but he cant tell dm he already knows about the stitches bc thsts def gonna scare him off which he Cannot risk . so hes like "i have to get him to tell me himself.... but how...." and coming out to him is the plan he comes up w essentially

percy day was peteys pseudonym back when he was still doign art for art and not bc of profit or money . he went by a pseudonym bc he knew some of his paintings could potentially be dangerous if traced back to him . they were usually subtle enough so people didnt notice the more symbolic critical elements but better to be safe than sorry

"lover" was js The painting that ended up blowing up horribly in his face and effectively ended percy days career (bc era typical homophobia) . he didnt rlly expect people to immediately clock that the painting was . yk. gay . since ppl love doing mental gymnastics to deny someone being gay .

ofc since he wasnt connected to the paintings his life wasnt like. affected that much but yk its not exactly a great feeling when everyone and their mom is ragging on ur painting for being morally reprehensible . it was Very widely covered and ridiculed and it had its effects on peteys psyche . def played a Huge role in his aversion to painting for himself .

the subject of "lover" was js one of peteys old friends / fwbs . not actually his bf or anything like that .

edit: he did love the subject obviously thats why its titled “lover” but it wasnt rlly. romantic ? it was platonic. but the love was still Very Queer . so it was kinda a qpr basically . shrug? pt was in a lot of those back in the day i think .

peteys plan does actually end up working and dm does take off the scarf . he knows how it feels to hide smth and how scary it is when someone knows that about you and you dont have anything on them . at this point dm doesnt know that he himself is also queer and the only thing hes activeky hiding is the stitches . so yeah

also the thing dm was scared of wasnt of getting reported. it was the fear of petey seeing him as some freak of nature . but he didnt rlly have a choice bc he didnt wanna mentally distress pt by not giving him anything about himself that petey can use to mentally assure himself that hes still safe .

also dms stitches could make him a target for mccarthyism bc he was a government project essentially . bc of what they did to him it actually makes Extremely logical sense for dm to have become and anarchist or smth similar . and obvs petey being gay means the ycould accuse him of being a communist . but yeah. thats why its kinda mutual and they cant report each other

petey takes a Huge risk in coming out to dm. technically peteys case is more cut and dry so theres actually higher risk in people knowing hes gay than people knowing dm is a medical project . bc ifs easy to just point at petey and ruin his life but for dm because hes just. Such a unique case. its not as easy.
