At the shelter I used to work at the kitten room had a deep basement-style laundry sink.
I trust you all to do the math
During tonight’s volunteer shift, I had to keep six kittens in a box while a team mate cleaned their cage. (Their mom/foster mom was taking a break from them and just chilling)
The experience was… challenging. 😂

RAW: a second level Druid can wild shape into a 1/4 CR creature for one hour. This ability regenerates at the end of a short rest.
A short rest is a period of time one hour long during which a character does “nothing more strenuous than eating, drinking, reading, and tending to wounds.”
Warlock spells also regenerate on a short rest.
Even with encumbrance rules in play, a Druid-lock can wildshape into a small creature (small enough to not trigger encumbrance), hitch a ride on another character, and perpetually short rest without slowing the party. This allows them to regenerate nearly all their spell slots and class abilities.

Okay I love the "I'm vaccinated and ready to party this summer" attitude, but do yous realize you can still transmit the virus to people who are not vaccinated. The vaccine aims to prevent severe symptoms and death, it does not stop transmission. Even if youre vaccinated, you can still catch covid—your case will just be mild or asymptomatic, and you can get other people sick, who may be hospitalized or die if they're not fully vaccinated. So chill out, keep wearing your masks and social distancing. If you don't want to cause you're bored or lonely—SUCK. IT. UP.

SCIENCE TIME.
First of all, if you take nothing else away from this post: *if you have a reaction to the second vaccine that means it’s working*. It’s ok if you don’t have a reaction to the second shot. Your vaccine is still working. But if you do have a reaction, that is good. There’s a longer explanation below, but if someone says “the vaccine made me sick” - good!
Longer science stuff here.
First, how our bodies work. When particles from a virus or a bacteria are found in our bloodstream, our body’s very first reaction is to get hot. Most microorganisms have a narrow temperature range they can survive* at. By getting hot, we can kill the pathogen. That’s why you get fevers. This is called nonspecific immunity because it’s a generic response to pretty much everything.
We also have specific immunity. These are cells whose entire job is to look out for one microorganism and kill it when they find it, before it can make you sick. For your specific immunity to develop, your body needs to encounter the microorganism first - usually, by getting sick. This is where vaccines come in.
How vaccines work: a vaccine is a way to develop your specific immunity without you getting sick first. Usually, we expose you to a large enough dose of the virus** - made weaker or killed, as Darkwingatlarge said - that your body is able to recognize that virus. Because the virus is weakened or killed, you don’t get sick, but as far as your body knows, it’s the same as if you got sick. Next time you encounter the virus, your body is able to kill it before it can make you sick. However, the COVID vaccine is a little different, and to understand how it works, it helps to understand how viruses work.
How viruses work: viruses have essentially one goal, which is to turn your cells into little factories that make more virus. Every cell in your body is constantly making proteins, all the time. Viruses co-opt this process so the cell makes copies of the virus instead. That virus goes out to infect new cells.
So, all of this leads to the big one: how the COVID vaccine works.
The COVID vaccine uses the same trick viruses use. Instead of using a killed or weakened virus to teach your body “this = bad”, the COVID vaccine uses mRNA - the same mRNA out cells use to say “build this protein” all the time. But the mRNA directs your cells to make one tiny part of the COVID virus instead. Not the dangerous part; a single spike protein that the COVID virus uses to attach to your cells.
Your body has a natural check in-process. When a cell makes a protein, it presents it to the regulatory cells and says “look what I made!” If the cell is making the right protein, nothing happens. But if the cell is making the wrong protein, either because it was a damaged, or because it’s been *infected by a virus* - this alerts the immune system and activates your specific and nonspecific immunity.
So what happens when you get vaccinated? Some of your cells start making a tiny, harmless spike protein and says “I made this! Is it good?” Other cells show up and say “absolutely not, that’s garbage, never make it again.” Your body learns that if it ever encounters this spike protein again, to kill it on sight. This is great if you get Covid, because it activates specific immunity. But, on dose two, when your body is still learning, what happens? Your body knows enough to say “no, this is bad,” but not enough to summon the specific immunity against COVID. Instead, it activates your nonspecific immunity — fever, and all the aches and pains that come with it.
You have a negative reaction to the second COVID vaccine dose, because your body starts making spike protein. Your body says “I know I hate this, but I don’t know what to do yet, so, uh, go off I guess” and does what it always does — it gets hot.
*technically, most microorganisms have a limited temperature at which they can reproduce. But, when your life span is hours, not being able to reproduce is a Big Problem.
**there are bacterial vaccines as well but they’re rarer and operate on more or less the same principle, so we’re using virus here.
A PSA for anyone getting the Covid vaccine, just so you know what to expect, some people experience no side effects, but it’s also not uncommon for people to feel like they have cold/flu-like symptoms for a day or two after getting the vaccine. For most people the symptoms are slightly worse after the second shot. The hospital I work at is recommending that employees get the vaccine the day before they have a day or two off. They have provided some extra PTO days in part because of this. I took a day off after each shot and was glad I did. This should not discourage anyone from getting the vaccine, but is just information to keep in mind when scheduling you or your loved ones vaccines. I highly recommend OTC pain relievers like Tylenol, Advil, or their generics. Tylenol relieved all of my symptoms. There’s no prize for toughing it out, just take them and they will make it so much easier.  For me, I got my first shot in the morning and about 14 hours later I started to feel muscle aches and pains, especially in my neck. I went to bed and then woke up feeling worse; headache, lightheadedness, a temp of 99.2 (higher than normal, but not technically a fever), and worse muscle aches and pains. I started taking Tylenol and I felt much better. The symptoms lasted for about 24 hrs. After my second shot, I felt symptoms much faster, about 6 hrs after the shot, I kept up with the Tylenol a little more aggressively this time and it kept the symptoms at bay, still wouldn’t have wanted to run a 5k or give a big work presentation or anything. Over all I would say the symptoms last about 36 hrs.  And I feel like I have to put this in here, just in case it crosses people’s minds, “What’s the point of getting the vaccine if it’s just going to make you sick?” You may feel sick, but you are not infected. You feel sick because the vaccine has “tricked” your immune system into thinking you are infected so that it starts to produce antibodies, but you are not actually infected. The symptoms from the vaccine last a day or two. In contrast Covid can last for weeks or months. The symptoms from the vaccine will not land you in the hospital or, more importantly, the morgue like Covid can. Also, you won’t be able to transmit the virus or the symptoms to anyone around you.  Hopefully being informed can lead to us all making smart choices that help us get out of this pandemic as soon as possible.

No but like I’m still thinking about this so I’m back. The thing that made early Buffy great and the reason joss whedon was unironically hailed as a feminist in the 90s because this really encapsulates what Buffy at its best was: a show about silly things like vampires and high school and teenage girls and nerds, but also (when you got past the weird themes punishing women for having sex) a show about how women aren’t allowed to be fully developed people. I mean that in the sense that they don’t control their life or their choices but often have a destiny predetermined or dictated to them by earlier generations of men.
And I know that sounds basic and absurd on tumblr in 2020, but you just really have to believe us old fogies when we tell you the gender and sexuality politics of the 90s were just unthinkably bad. I could go into 50 year cycles and 20 year cycles and post war nostalgia but just... this really was radical to see on tv in 1999/2000. At a time when the 80s powersuited business woman was still sitcom gold and the biggest political question was would Hillary Clinton stand by her man, you had a young blond girl with a literal unbreakable destiny and a limited future on TV every Tuesday and she was *salty* about it. God knows it wasn’t perfect but it was relevant.

I can’t believe I’m here in 2020 for the BtVS discourse but
I’d also add that before she was the slayer, Buffy was exactly the sort of girl everyone assumed would be homecoming queen: popular, pretty, vapid. Buffy was Cordelia, but bigger and better, because she lived in the big city. Not only that, but she was a legacy homecoming queen: Joyce and Hank met at the homecoming dance. Buffy ended all of that when she became the slayer and burned down her high school gym. She lost her popularity, her friends, her home — the entire life she thought she’d have.
And she’s allowed to grieve that. Even if it’s inconsequential and silly compared to being the chosen one, she’s allowed to resent that the life she wanted was taken away from her. Being the homecoming queen is a small thing, but controlling your life and making choices that fulfill you is a really big thing. Buffy doesn’t get that as the slayer. That’s what this scene (and quite honestly the first 5 seasons) is about.

They’re called the Catcade and they’re in Chicago, IL. They’re not just a cat arcade, they are a fully licensed operating shelter. They pull cats from high-kill shelters around the country and adopt them out to good homes. They are cage free and work hard to provide a low stress environment to their adoptable kitties. Right now they have responsibly closed their lounge to prevent COVID transmission. But they still have kitties up for adoption and, importantly, in need of care — to say nothing of their overhead during this time.
Please consider a small donation if you can afford one. They keep a list of items and such they need on their website. https://www.thecatcade.org/
