if you are distressed about not receiving a response from someone you'd like to be actively talking to, you have to take a moment. step back from the conversation, put yourself in their shoes. perhaps they're busy with something right now. you have to consider the possibility that maybe they hanging upside down by their ankle. everybody has their own schedule, and sometimes people spend time away from their phone or computer because they are currently suspended from a tree branch by a rope tied around their ankle that they unnoticingly stepped in because it was concealed by a pile of leafs. it's not that they don't want to respond; imagine that they can see their phone screen on the ground below but it's a good few inches out of reach and even if they bounce and flail on the branch their fingertips just can't touch it. sometimes life gets in the way

so this is probably my best digital painting yet!

#portrait#digital painting#this is very much the closest to photorealism i ever intend to go. not that it is that- i just don't usually get this close.#i did learn a lot!#i hope to use the stuff i learned to make more intentional choices in future#i found out that skin texture is incredibly hard to paint! all I could manage was making it look like she's wearing liquid foundation#i'm also really trying to get the hang of colours! even in this i had to adjust it so much after I'd finished to get it to look less flat#the neck was so hard :( i think it still looks a bit odd#also in the photo shes wearing this beautiful Nigerian dress. but i was so tired at his point it was day 2 of painting for hours#so i gave up on it :/#btw if you are reading these tags (anyone):#none of this is supposed to read as negative or self critical. I just enjoy talking about developing art skills and what's hard about it et#if you have thoughts I'd be very happy to hear from other artists#not particularly looking for advice though. this is just fun for me :)#i didn't intend to paint this actually i was just getting skin tone references for a character#and i got so absorbed into this little practice painting#if i'd intended to post it i would have chosen someone more well known or a model or something#i feel a bit weird about posting a painting of someone i don't know#and idk if she's in the public eye at all#but i doubt this post will be seen by many people so it's probably fine

I doubt anyone will notice. But on the off-chance anyone was wondering: I just set all my posts to private*.
I've had this blog for a little over 10 years now. And I have never once been happy with it.
I've thought about starting a new one. I've tried side blogs. But I like my followers and mutuals, and I find it hard enough to remember I have one blog, let alone consistently post to side blogs.
So, I'm starting again.
The plan is to use this blog to talk about my hobbies. Books, crafting, painting... I've been meaning to start making more fanart, as well.
Hopefully it'll be fun!
(*And then I unprivated the two posts which I still like, and which still get notes.)
