“To Pimp A Butterfly is    ambitious in its attempt to inspire a generation to change the world for the better and poignant enough to actually do so.”

This post has been saved under drafts for close to a month, because until today, I completely forgot about it. I wrote this a week or so after, To Pimp a Butterfly came out, when all of the much-deserved hype was surrounding it. When I randomly pulled it up today, I was close to deleting it because it seemed irrelevant, since the albums been out for a while now. Then I turned on the news and saw the Baltimore riots, and all of the other horrific bullshit around the world that goes on every day, week, and month. This revolutionary album couldn’t have come at a better time, which is a time of turmoil for a generation that needs some inspiration, spark, courage, pride, heart, and leadership to take back our country. The rest of the writing starts off with what I originally wrote a month ago.
“To Pimp A Butterfly is ambitious in its attempt to inspire a generation to change the world for the better and poignant enough to actually do so.” by Justin Hunte - Music Critic for HIPHOPdx
This will probably be my last post referring to Kendick Lamar’s album, To Pimp a Butterfly. It’s hard to even put this masterpiece into words, but the inspiration its filled me with, is a strong force of feelings that I must express. We’re entering the fourth month of the new year, 2015, and the world hasn’t changed much at all, actually, the world seems to be at its lowest point since I’ve been alive. Everyday, the unsettling problems of our society stare straight into my eyes. I’m tired of reading the newspaper or hearing the news in the background, about another tragic headline, before I can even have my first cup of coffee in the morning. To be completely honest, up until lately, I was numb to it. Numb, without any purpose, rather than to just exist. Well, I don’t want to feel numb anymore, and the spark Kendrick’s lit inside me is a fire that hasn’t burned for a while. Everyone who cares, can bluntly see the corruption and pain we’re drowning in today. I hope a lot of people understand how important this album is, from all the positive attention its getting, and what I’ve seen and read on here, seems like a lot of people do. This powerful album gave me hope again. A hope that keeps growing. He opened my eyes with his music to see that there’s a lot more people out there feeling the way I feel. The day when the news broke all over the web that the new album was out a week before its original release, I purchased the album and canceled any plans I had that day to listen to it. On first listen, while going through every lyric, I was blown away, and I haven’t stopped listening to it yet. Finally, there was this brave man with social power, addressing all the same issues that’s been constantly on my mind. Look at the police, I mean the government has turned them into a military, that have been targeting the African-American race like terrorists. The government is soon going to want complete control over everyone, unless we all (every race) unify together, hand-to-hand, to make a stand that sends a strong message to them, that we won’t tolerate abuse. This generation needs a lot more inspiring voices like Kendrick Lamar’s. Inspiring voices from all walks of life. People (skin & flesh) who want change, but first, change must start within. Then, Anything is possible. Just like the Bloods and Crips in Baltimore, who’ve put their hatred for each other behind, so they can unite for a cause that’s much bigger than a gang. Soon, we’re all going to need to come together.
Final note; I’ll always be in debt to Kendrick Lamar and To Pimp a Butterfly

I’ve been to my share of fests, but I’ve yet to go to Coachella, or legendary Woodstock. I know, huge mistakes. But Jon Bellion’s new song, Woodstock (Psychedelic Fiction), sure tells a great tale to fill that empty void. Woodstock is a stellar Bellion tune, showcasing his finely crafted, signature indie pop meets electronic and hip hop sound. The ornately sugared tune is a bold reminder why Jon Bellion has such a bevy of devoted fans. With the new track comes an announcement that he’ll be embarking on a 27 city national headline tour set to start May 26th. I happened to catch this guy in San Francisco during his fall tour last year, and boy, did he kill it. It’s no surprise. He is a Grammy winner, since he contributed to Eminem and Rihanna’s The Monster. Watch for a huge break out year for Jon.
