“In the depth of winter I finally learned that there was in me an invincible summer.” — Albert Camus. Here are some photos that I took in Nanaimo, BC, Canada, on VIU campus last winter. Snowing is a very special occasion out there for grabbing a camera and getting out for photohunting. There are two Japanese gardens on the campus, and I went there to take pics of some plants covered with fluffy snow. And while walking there, I noticed a group of hares eating frozen grass and chilling (in all meanings of this word). Probably because of such an unusual for these animals weather, they allowed me to come way closer to them than any other time when I tried to do that. It was very nice to observe such adorable cuties dealing with pretty harsh winter day. Some of the hares were just more relaxed than always, others were quite more frisky and extremely curious about what was going on that day, and the rest was numb (as that black hare closer to the end of photoset). What I realized that time is that I just can’t get winter without snowing ^_^ Snowing brings some magic, fantastic feeling that Mother Nature is resting to get new forces and let flowers bloom and bushes thrive even more than the year before…Anyway, I hope that these photos may pass you great mood that I had last January in Nanaimo during 2 weeks of atypically cold weather ^_^ Enjoy any season, any climate, and any natural phenomenon! Let more joy into your life! Namaste!

Amazing photos by Geert Weggen show us lovely squirrrels playing in an open outside studio, which Geert built 1 meter above the ground and connected it with his kitchen window. This studio allows the photographer make compositions on an eye level, 3 meters away from his window so that to capture small animals and birds from such a short distance. My favourite pics are the ones with squirrels because I like these funny little rodents ^__^ More photos by Geert here: https://500px.com/geertweggen

Insanely adorable illustrations by Nicole Gustafsson, whose artistic pseudonym is NIMASPROUT. Among her works, I may point out the ones from Treescapes series and Woodland series because they exhibit magic life of cute forest creatures, which I find to be really lovely. Nicole’s illustrations are amazingly kind and raise a big smile on my face >^_^< Check out her website: http://www.nimasprout.com/

°°Stuffed Butternut Squash°°
With my boyfriend, we love coking and try to eat as healthy as possible while indulging from time to time into some dainty scrumptious dishes. We are vegetarians and love baked veggies because we like texture and flavour that may be reached by baking rather then boiling or sautéing. This dish is perfect for everybody who likes veggies, and it looks great on a dining table, so you may cook it for a home party of, lets say, 6 people. For those who do not know how to recognize a butternut squash, it is the one of a bell shape — with a slim neck and a bulbous bottom. Its bright-orange flash has a relatively sweet taste, which nicely complement tastes of other veggies we chose. Other veggies that you need are: one big carrot, one medium-size beet root, one medium-size broccoli, a bunch of Brussels sprouts, and one big onion (we used a Spanish one because it is relatively mild but not as much as sweet onions). Divide the squash into two halves by cutting it longways. Cut out its flesh and grate it. Be careful with the peel because you will use it instead of baking forms. Cut all the veggies into small pieces. Mix everything and add spices of your choice (I used sumac, turmeric, paprika, sweet mustard, dill weed, white pepper, and majoran). Important tip #1: always add salt only into cooked dishes because when salt is exposed to high temperatures (over 190°F), its molecular structure gets destroyed and become rather dangerous to our health. Add vegetable oil (for instance, sunflower oil) and mix everything again. Fill the halves of butternut squash with veggies. Bake at 400°F for 30 minutes. Turn off the oven and take out the dish. Then distribute grated cheese over the veggies (if you are vegan or do not eat dairy products, use vegan cheese) and put the dish back into oven just for a couple of minutes, so the cheese melts.
Enjoy your meal! Bon Appétit! ^__^

I was going through uncountable amount of pictures of bunnies that I made in Canada, and an idea of drawing a cute fluffy one in a Christmas/New Year style came up on its own. At first, I just knew that I wanted to draw a cheerful fat bunny with some heteromeles, but then I realized that it would be nice if the bunny wore some kind of warm clothes since it is a wintertime. After providing the bunny with a woollen cozy scarf, I started working on a part of pine tree with Christmas ornaments. The bunny is jumping towards these two branches of the Christmas tree so that to lick a decoration that is closer to her, that is why she (yeap, I decided that it is a girl ^_^) is sticking her tongue out as if teasing somebody. The background reflects colours and shapeless forms usual for Northern lights. Overall, I was trying to pass a merry mood of winter holidays. Hope that you like the result. Polixeni Papapetrou
Melbourne born Greek contemporary photographer Polixeni Papapetrou is on a league of her own. She is highly distinguished for her themed photo series about people’s identities. In Art school, surprisingly I had never studied/heard of her, which is a shame because I would have loved to reference her in my projects, considering I study photography as well. I’ve never seen such vibrant color photography with so much imagination and a clear narrative. The above and latest series is called “The Ghillies” which consists of 13 photographs in total. Polixeni takes you down the “rabbit hole” with most of her work as she clearly evokes such a delightful illusory world which also represents human behavior and personality through fine art photography. Her images give me a sort of nostalgic feeling, taking me back to my children with stories of Peter Rabbit and Alice in Wonderland. I’ve researched quite a few contemporary artists with a fairytale narrative around their work, and I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like Polixeni’s photography. Considering the fact that she has been creating such magnificent imagery since the 80’s, she is a prolific artist, with a line of exhibitions to her name. I would suggest anyone who is interested in contemporary color photography, to pay close attention to Polixeni Papapetrou.

"At Night" is a reflection of all the different sounds, emotions, and people that have been surrounding me in the second half of 2012 and beginning of 2013. All of the tunes have been made at night or early morning when it is still dark out. I feel like it is the best time to work on music because everyone is asleep, and there is a lot of energy in the air. It is hard to tell what particular genre the EP is but I could certainly say that it is influenced by such styles as UK garage, dubstep and house. The concept behind my production for most of the songs was to try fusing half tempo dubstep and garage beats with a groovy 4x4 beat in a break down, while at the same time adding cool future garage/post-dubstep influenced sounds and vocal chops. I was trying to create something you could listen to in the morning before work or class and at the same time be able to play it in a club "at night". Enjoy.
