Thinking about Taissa and image today and the way that relates to ‘other Tai’. Like the writers kinda dropped the ball with that but fuck in season one it was the best story line to me.

I generally don’t like to think of ‘other Tai’ as an alternate personality but instead as Tais true desires or needs. Taissa is incredibly image obsessed, she cares about people’s perception of her so she doesn’t allow herself to do some things. Eating Jackie is what comes to mind (also shooting coach). The girls were fucking starving and they might have died if they didn’t find something to eat, and there Jackie was, literally perfectly slow-smoked barbecue. But, as much as Taissa needed to eat, I don’t think she would let herself do that. So ‘other Tai’ gets to do the dirty work so Taissa doesn’t have to take the blame or deal with all the emotions that would have come with that. I think this is generally how ‘other Tai’ works. She typically comes out when Tai can’t do something herself and I think she’s related to Taissa’s need to be perfect.

Anyway I hope that they play with that in season 4, though I doubt they will remember any of that. Taissa, my love, I’m sorry the writers don’t care about you:(

alr here we go, van who’s had to slap their mom awake more times than they can count, who’s felt with hits from their mom and the jerks at school who call them names and shoulder check them, from the upperclassmen on the soccer team who would fight dirty and aim for them and not the goal, who would kick their ankles during games, who’s so used to bottling up and holding in the anger and the urge to swing at the next person who hits them. but they never do, some part of them knows that even though it’s more than deserved, they’d do more damage. years of hauling mom up onto the couch, years of arm training to catch balls kicked harder and faster every season, with decades of leg muscles from walking home and springing a foot up to block a ball, and so much blind anger that if they started fighting back they wouldn’t stop. later in life they mention this to natalie, stoned laying on the field in the middle of summer break. she nods, slow and asks if van wants to throw a couple punches at each other. they’re more similar than many realize.
