Splinter nodded in solemn understanding. He hadn’t been filled in on the full predicament, only knowing that Leonardo... this Leonardo... was not of his own dimension. All other details were vague, but it was implied that fate had not been kind to him (though a quick glance into the turtle’s eyes would have revealed as much.) So Splinter hugged him. He didn’t know what good it would do, yet he held him close like he was comforting the same Leonardo he had raised from infancy, hoping it put a salve on whatever wounds his spirit struggled to bear.

“Hm?” Splinter turned around and looked at his son quizzically. The request was unusual... Michelangelo was often the type to hug first and ask questions later. But the look on the face was downcast, his voice sincere. So Splinter obliged, bending down a little so Mikey’s head was pressed to his shoulder instead of his chest as he wrapped his arms around his son, and held the him close. “There. Does that help?” he asked, not wanting to pry despite knowing with certainty that something was bothering him.
