are you still doing the ask the writer thing? If yes can I go 23 and/or 26 👀
i'm sorry if there was a long delay in my response! thank you for asking, i appreciate your curiosity <3
23. Describe the physical environment in which you write. Be as detailed as possible. Tell me what’s around you as you work. Paint me a picture.
i just moved everything around, but i used to have my desk at a south-facing window that blinded me most of the day. i moved to the northern side of the room, we'll see if i like this corner. it's probably less intimidating for the crows i'm trying to befriend than staring like a goon out the balcony doors while they eat peanuts. it's an unassuming desk with a woven apple coaster from aomori, a ceramic mushroom pen holder from nikko, and a paper lantern i made. the floor is tatami and smells faintly of rushes. the walls are pinned with tenugui from mountains i've hiked and postcards from friends.
26. How do you get into your character’s head? How do you get out? Do you ever regret going in there in the first place?
i wish i had an insightful, sexy response. i don't notice any particular habits regarding this while writing fic since i'm just interpreting established characters. i write them in a consistent style and voice that's easy to slip into. my interpretations aren't particularly accurate or smart, just straightforward (to me).
with original characters, it's definitely different and more intensive, but i don't really have a process. i refer to my psychotic notebooks or their character charts to determine action if it's not coming naturally from my understanding of them.

oh oh 1, 10 and 11 please!
hi! so sorry, i have no idea when this was sent and apologize if it's been weeks. thank you for asking!!!
1. What font do you write in? Do you actually care or is that just the default setting?
just 12pt times new roman since it's easy to read. i use libre writer.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
the only novel to give me nightmares was house of leaves, if you want to interpret haunting that way, and there are many books i often think about. my writing certainly haunts me. my original work is incomplete and has been for years, but i don't think being haunted is wholly negative, so long as you can recognize when it stems from fear compared to being consumed. it's fine to be consumed.
11. Do you believe in the old advice to “kill your darlings?” Are you a ruthless darling assassin? What happens to the darlings you murder? Do you have a darling graveyard? Do you grieve?
yes, i think this is an important practice not just in writing, but in visual art as well, which is my background. treating all of what you create as precious holds the work (and you) back, and can lead to maladaptive perfectionism. when you cut, it becomes something new and opens new paths. sometimes it takes me a while to realize when something needs to go, though, so i wouldn't consider myself ruthless. with fic, unless it's prose i like and might be able to rework or use elsewhere, i just delete. with my original work, i keep every iteration as reference and do have a graveyard, but i don't grieve. i understand that as painful as it was to start over, it's become far richer in the process.
