Fanfic Writers Ask Game (>:D): 1, 4, 5, 7, 13, 17, 22, 26, 31, 45, 47, 53, 58, 65, 70, 79, 81, 84, 85, 91, 94, 99!
*(Gets drowned under all the questions)* XD Lol alright let's do this~!
-----
1) Do you know how you want the story to end when you start, or are you just stumbling through the figurative wilderness hoping to find a road?
Ehhh kinda both. I used to be a lot more structured and would have definitive goals to work towards. Nowadays I'm more along for the journey to find the road, but I've got a pretty good nose for it too so at least there's that.
4) What is the plot bunny you’ve been carrying for the longest? optional bonus question: do you ever wonder why you haven’t written it yet and experience deep existential dread?
In terms of solely fanfic things: I suppose that would be my PokeFalls AU. A story of Dipper and Mabel from Gravity Falls in a pokemon universe and going through the plot of Pokemon Red, but with its own unique spins and dives into backstories of both the Gravity Falls characters and their pokemon parallels. At this point though I think the reason why I haven't written it yet is because... well I don't think anyone would both to read it, honestly. And I was in a really hard place at the time, so the entire project is a bit sour for me.. But who knows. Maybe some day.. In terms of original stories, I suppose the longest would have to go to Whatever it Takes, and the reason I haven't written it yet is because it needs a *massive* overhaul of world-building. X'D Which I can not be bothered to deal with unfortunately.
5) Have you ever made a playlist about something you were writing as an elaborate means to procrastinate when you could have been actually writing and if yes drop a link, son
Ack. Gotta call me out like this. XD Though I'll say I didn't make this playlist cause I was procrastinating. X'D I genuinely wanted to find music to listen to while I did the dishes, that kept me in the mindset for the story. The last 6 songs are actually more aimed towards a bunch of rp stuff I used to do with the character but.. Here you go. Is it for a fanfic? No, but it is a playlist for a story. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiYYeMVDix0UoB6e4XH901ctrJ08sFTf1&si=G4i5NyFJWROcP4Zi
7) Tell us about the plot of the first fanfic you ever wrote
*(Dies of cringe)* Fuck... Alright.. X'D Turnabout's fair play.. The very first fanfic I ever wrote was for WordGirl. Called The Triple Threat. It's basically an episode idea for Dr. Two-Brains, Chuck the Evil Sandwich Making Guy, and Tobey McCallister to team up and make robot cheese sandwiches that hypnotized people. (This was back before Mr. Big was a thing.) Their turn of triumph was hypnotizing Wordgirl herself, allowing Two-Brains to go on a cheese-stealing rampage, Chuck to... I forget. And Tobey to finally go on a dream date with her. I believe it was Capt. Huggyface who saved the day, unaffected by the hypnosis? I forget. XD;;
13) Talk about a writing experience that has pleasantly surprised you.
Pleasantly surprised me.. Hm.. I've had a few. I think a fun one was.. That among the wide cast of ocs between my husband and I, there's this one ship that's purely a crackship, but they are absolutely a match made in heaven too. XD They're a crackship though because there's no way in any kind of canon for them to ever meet. But if they did... Lol XD Augh, they're too cute. Their names are Stella and Utar, and their ship name would have to be Lucky Stars. XDD
17) What is your favorite line you’ve ever written?
I don't know about all time? XD There's... so much I would have to go back and compare through all my old works. But I'll share a more recent one. The king sat on the throne. A pale, weak, and weary figure. His scars were all but laid bare before her. He kept his gaze to the floor, his head burdened with a crown of his many many failures and hardships. The context here being a vampire king speaking with a dragon. He used to be a king and was kidnapped from his home by another dragon to be sold off illegally. The dragon he's speaking with had rescued him and is keeping him safe. But he's so jumpy and anxious all the time, and she's about to learn why.
22) Describe your writing process from scratch to finish.
Oh geez.. X'D Soooo I usually start with something like a prompt. Either like from a list of prompts or more often than not, a question I ask and I want to see the result of. "What if they kissed?" "What if this one only had a week to live?" "What if these three villains teamed up?" "What if life was like this?" "What if he married her at the wrong time?" Etc. From there, I start exploring the possibilities and start brainstorming ideas for what'll likely happen. How characters would do [blank], what they would think of something, who all would get involved, etc. I come up with a lot of ideas and then, if it's exciting enough, I sit down and try to write it all out. Since I can't just write the entire story in one sitting, I keep brainstorming while doing other things, and coming back and making adjustments or plans if need be. And that's basically it. XD I don't really do a lot of redrafts. When I'm finished, I'll go back through and try to touch up some things. Fix my grammar and punctuation. Things like that. Then I share it around and hope that people like it.
26) Do you like to write one-shots or series, and why?
Hmmm.. One-shots like.. one chapter? Or like, one story and that's it? I usually only do the one story (however many chapters it takes). I did do a series of stories like.. once. XD And it was a lot of fun! I think I like the idea of series a lot more but I hardly ever have enough brain for such a long over-branching plot and narrative anymore. XD
31) tell us about one of your characters who’s an absolute joy to write
In fanfics: Trilby from Chzo Mythos. XD The man canonically has long-winded internal monologue about everything and it's always so melodramatic. It's so much fun <3
In original stories: there's quite a few but Dimitri and his mother are both fun. Dimitri because he's a sarcastic ass. XD Evangeline because she has all the drama of Cruella de Ville and Rarity combined. I love any opportunity to write long-winded theatrical rants in a British accent, I guess. XD
45) Name three of your favorite fanfic writers.
Ahhh.. It's been a long time since I've really followed a lot of fanfic writers but... 1, My husband. <3 2, ummm.. I think they used to go by pictoshii, but double-checking a sideblog, it's last been called fillerfarts before being deactivated. Annnd 3.... I'm gonna say cellad00rs. But like I said, that was all long time ago. XD;;
47) what story are you most proud of?
Oh oof.. Uh.. Hard to say.. XD;; I think all my fanfics are pretty cringe anymore.. Uh... I'm gonna say "Awake in the Night." It's a WordGirl fic where Dr. Boxleitner regains control of his body at night, and is trying to find a way to undo the damage that's caused him to become Dr. Two-Brains. It's a hurt/comfort thing, and kind of tragic if I recall? But I still like it and I still get notes on it every so often. XD
53) when writing, do you have an outline? and do you stick to it?
Uh.. Yes? And no? XD I used to be such a planner and have a fully written outline but... I kinda got thrown off my groove for like.. years.. And plan-making and I have a water-oil like relationship anymore... I probably do still work best with a plan in mind but at this point, it's an idea of where I want things to go, and it's subject to change.
58) what is the last thing that a fic made you google when you were writing it?
I believe it was about.. eye.. injuries.. ^^;; And uh.. trying to fix that kinda stuff. What it's like to have a glass eye. I.. couldn't stomach too much research about it though.. :P
65) what is your favourite title for a fic you’ve written?
Title? Ehhh.. There's a few? I guess? It Doesn't Hurt A Place for Me King's Cafe Awake in the Night Descent into Madness I don't know if I can recommend looking up any of these but there you go. XD
70) are you very critical of your own writing? how much do you find yourself editing (either during the writing or after the fact)? Ehhh.. it's.. kinda hard to say. I feel like everything I do is cringe. But during the process of actually writing a story, I'll some times mull over sentences for a good while before finally moving on. It's kinda hard to be too critical though because 1) I have my husband constantly cheering me on <3, and 2) there's been a large amount of crap writing and storytelling I've seen over the years. If 50 Shades could get published, clearly the bar is 6 feet under.
79) are you an over-writer, under-writer, or just-right-er?
Lol. I have no idea. XD Maybe an over? I like words. I like a lot of good words if it means a good story. XD
81) if you could go back in time and give your younger self a piece of writing advice specific to you, what would it be? There's a lot I wish I could tell my younger self.. "It's okay to drop a story. It doesn't mean you didn't care about it, just that some stories are more fun to think of than to write." "Don't take that month off of writing. Everyone will be trying to convince you that you're going to burn yourself out, but don't listen to them. You do need to pace yourself though. Don't try to get a chapter out every day for 4 different stories. Just write for the one that comes to mind and if you don't feel like it, then don't sweat it." "Just cause no one reads it, that doesn't mean it's bad. Or a waste of time. You're just writing to get the idea out. Breathe... and have fun with it. If it's not fun, stop. You don't owe anyone an ending. Or even a beginning." "Go back and pick up a damn book about grammar. Nag Mom into finding books and doing courses with you. Everyone will ride on us for switching tenses and incorrect punctuation and you'll hate yourself for it. Look up videos on youtube if you need to. Find something."
"Sometimes, your brain is so busy trying to focus on Life stuff right now, that you need to set the story stuff aside and just process that instead. Rather than trying to demand it to process the stress of your life, and do story work too."
If you couldn't tell, I hit a pretty hard roadblock in Life back when I was younger. It took me years to finally overcome it, and I've only recently (within the last 3 years) found my drive to really write again.
84) said: overused or underused?
Neither. It can be either, but like all things it needs to be balanced. I don't wanna be afraid to use it, but I will try not to just have it repeated too often in a back and forth.
85) what would be on a moodboard for your current wip(s)?
Dragons. High or Dark Fantasy things like Labyrinth, Shadowgate, and Lotr. Vampires. Pride and Prejudice. Clovers, Cheshire Cat, and pirates. :3
91) how has your writing style changed over the years?
Oof. Um... I hope I've gotten better. XD;; I have been using "said" a lot less frequently. A little more focused, hopefully. (Ironically.) Less.. out-of-pocket jokes. XD And hopefully less visual-aid reliant jokes too.. Less hoops to jump through to justify what a character is or what they do.
94) do you prefer dialogue or description?
Ehh.. either or. I love a quippy back and forth. I love character work. <3 I love seeing a character's intelligence and personality shine through a long-winded rant. I like hearing things from a character's perspective and giving me an insight to how they see or saw things.
But I'm a sucker for descriptions too. The beautiful scenery. The vibe. The aesthetic. I wanna see it all dammit! I feel there's never enough description to really solidify what I need to see in my head. :P
99) was being a writer a dream of yours when you were little? or did it spring up when your older? or is it just a hobby?
Ahh I've always been a sucker for storytelling. <3 When I was little I used to have the thought that the world was really just one big storybook, and it was only boring because whoever was reading the story hadn't turned the page yet.
I always came up with stories for whatever I was interested in, and loved the journeys they'd take me on. Playing pretend with my sister was always one of the greatest things about childhood, and I was fascinated with the stories in games, movies, and shows the most.
I started considering being an author when I was a young teen. (13-14) And that's when I started writing fanfiction. I was largely inspired by Whisper of the Heart. I met my husband through writing fanfics for Phineas and Ferb. Writing's always been a passion and it always will be. Hopefully someday I'll even be published. ^^

Hey hey!! If anyone here is interested in getting into animation or is looking for software, Moho is doing a pay what you want deal through Humble Bundle right now!
Minimum of $25USD, you get the software and some brushpacks and stuff. The software is usually around $400, so. Now is a great time to pick it up even if you just wanna test it out.
My animation professor was really excited about this software and I'm super excited to try out the tools they've been showing off like smart bones. Definitely look up their YouTube where they show it off and pick it up if it appeals to ya!

genuinely something so delightful about getting obsessed with your own characters. what do you MEAN I can turn my headcanons for my characters into Official Real Lore. that's so fucking cool are you serious
#Not just turning headcanon into lore#but to create aus and fanfics for them too#and happy to know that it is absolutely an au or a fanfic cause it's not what would happen in canon#but this is sooo what would happen if it happened like *this*#Lol

Character Ask: Dimitri - 1, 5, 13!
Aw thanks man! ^^ 1) What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?
So this is a fun little story. My husband and I are both writers, and my sister (@provider-of-guardians) and I have both done lots of stories and artwork together as well. Hubs wanted to play dnd with me for the longest time, and I had never played before.
So we got the starter kit for 5E, and I've watched a few people share their dnd stories on youtube, getting a.. vague.. idea of what the game was like. At the same time, for reasons, we were moving across the country, back to my parent's house. This had its ups and downs but one of the ups was that we would get to play with my sis. We would all be in the same place, around the same times, so at least scheduling a game on weekends would be easier.
I've always been obsessed with vampires, and I knew they weren't a playable race in dnd, but Hubby was more than happy to homebrew something. So being a vampire I had to think of a plausible excuse for him to drink blood. Some fallback excuse so he could travel and not starve. I knew of bloodletting as a medical practice in medieval times, so I went with a plague doctor. Then came the personality. I had been in a creative rut for... years. I had been struggling to sit down and write or draw anything and the idea of coming up with a full character with a backstory and everything, felt overwhelmingly daunting. Especially while I was trying to move! I remember we were driving out on the road. I was trying to read the Player's handbook about elves, whatever I could look up on the phone about dnd and vampires, any idea of what to do for my character and finally, came up with a solution. An easy question to ask. If I was going to be roleplaying a character, what would be the easiest personality for me to play as? What was the easiest thing for me to feel and express and play as?
Tired.. and depressed.
So made my character that was just that.. Someone who was constantly stressed, tired, and depressed. And everything else began to fall into place. Why was he depressed? What happened? Where did he come from? I pulled out my phone and began writing a brief summary of his backstory in a notepad on it.
5) How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe? Growing up one of my favorite movies of all time was Anastasia. And subsequently, one of my favorite characters is Dimitri. As a result, it's always been one of the first names I think of when creating a new character. But this time I decided to just go with it. I couldn't think of anything better. Then I looked around, found someone had a translator for Tolkein elvish online. I punched in a few words and I got "Mel baw mith", which was from "Love no stop". I played around with the spelling and eventually got Mellabamith, which translates in universe to "Love with no end". I wanted that to be his wife's name, and I wanted him to have adopted that. Balludson (Dimitri's original last name), was originally from Bolod-son, which was just my lazy scrambling of "Blood-son". (ha ha, get it? Vampire. XD) In universe there was a man named Adolus Bolod, who's son was titled "Bolodson." Over the years it was bastardized into Balludson. In essence, there's an irony to it. It's pronounced like "Ballad-son" which is very fitting for the current ruling family of the theater-kid-centric clan. XD In canon Dimitri's full birth name is Dimitrius Valentine Balludson. His parents picked it because they first met and fell in love in his mother's garden. <3
13) Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?
Pfffffffft X'D I've been trying so hard to find a good voice for him, honestly. Originally it was going to be Aurealia Voltaire. He's a great goth rock artist. But the more I listened to him talking the more it didn't feel quite what I was expecting for Dimitri.
Dimitri's meant to have a deeper kinda of voice. Kinda.. fatherly? Something that can range between sounding intelligent and caring, while also able to flip on a dime and curse like a sailor in a drunken rant. XD I've thought about Harrison Ford and Collin Firth before but neither sound quite what I'm looking for.. I need something like.. in the middle? I dunno. I don't know what it is I'm looking for. XD Hubs had suggested I either stick with Voltaire or maybe try Markiplier. Despite it not being quite right, I did make a couple of videos as a test for Harrison Ford for Dimitri's voice claim. One of which was from one of my favorite movies: Sabrina (1994)
Thanks for the asks dude! ^^
