Fact: Today (September 23rd) is bisexuality awareness day. Be aware of bisexuals. They are dangerous.

This Internet Archive situation is like if the town firefighters got busted running a car theft ring. We’re glad they stopped doing that but we also kinda depended on the service they provided and now we’re worried.

Support your local library!
This seems like a good time to remind folks: if you are upset at the decision re: the Internet Archive's "Open Library," but you don't have a direction to send that energy, maybe consider seeing what you can do to support and defend your local public and/or school library?
If you live in the U.S., there is a good chance that politicians and/or right-wing activists are threatening your local libraries. This may be through new state laws, or through actions by local officials, or even the library boards themselves. Or maybe they are enduring a wave of book challenges by some very enthusiastic and determined bigots.
It's worth checking out what is going on in your area, and if there are any existing groups and organizations working to fight back that you can join or support. (Or maybe even start something yourself!)

Ok, this is genuinely hilarious.

Add another one to the list of hilarious examples of why generative AI doesn't produce correct answers, just statistically likely ones.
(Customers asked for how-to videos, which the company doesn't have. The AI chatbot decided that a million internet users linking to this video after similar requests couldn't be wrong.)

Can I just say, here's what I didn't get about the NaNoWriMo/LLM thing. (I won't call them AIs, that's a misnomer)
Even if they overtly 'disallowed' use of LLMs, they'd have no way to monitor or enforce that rule ANYWAY. So I literally didn't understand what difference it makes. If there's no way to enforce a ban on something, what's the point of 'banning' it?
I get that LLMs kinda undermine the point of the exercise, depending on how people use them. But if people "cheat" at a largely recreational exercise, I'm kinda like..Okay. And?
This whole thing just doesn't make any sense to me.
