From a segment of âhistoryâ
âWhat can you tell me about elves, Prince Callum?â
What does he know about elves? He repeats the obvious, things everyone is told from childhood, same as the sky is blue or fire is hot. âThey⊠live in Xadia. Theyâre kind of like humans but not- four fingers instead of five, pointed ears, and horns like a goatâs or deerâs. Sometimes wings or fangs. They do magic.â
âAnd? Is that really all youâve ever learned?â

WIP Wednesday - Bloodthirsty

Their quiet cocoon is interrupted by a harsh knock on the door, a voice insisting he accept a scroll. Irritated, he pulls his pyjama pants up his hips, and marches towards the door. âCallum,â Rayla cautions, sitting up and reaching for his top. He sighs, contemplating answering the door as is before he thinks better of it. Hurrying over to her, he takes the tunic from her and pulls it over his head. âI look decent?â He smirks at her, smiling a little wider when she adjusts the collar for him. Pulling it a little tighter, that bit higher. âNever,â she snorts, caressing his jaw. âPrince Callum!â A gruff voice barks through the door and they both sigh in unison.
- Wee snippet from another instalment in the Bloodthirsty series.

Rayllum Mini-Month: Family
Almost immediately after the sky turned red, a bloody glow across the night sky. Heart racing, Rayla approached the window once again, gazing out at the night sky. The red glow illuminated the night sky, giving her a full view of a growing cloud over where she knew to moon nexus to be.
Or⊠where it had been.
She bit her lip, hoping desperately that Aaravos had escaped the destruction, even if the thought made her sick.
He had to escape though. If he perished in the eruption, so would Callum.
- Excerpt from the next chapter of In Absentia, which Iâm hoping to up-date as part of @rayllum-mini-month

Six Sentence Sunday: Rayllum Mini Month!

Rayla snorted, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. âIf you say soâŠâ âI do say so,â Callum declared, reaching into the sink and grabbing a squash and knife, joining her with peeling. âDonât worry about it,â Rayla shook her head at him. âGo relax. Iâm sure those cubs were running rings around you. Againââ Callum chuckled, not denying the accusation. She bumped him with her hip, nodding at the comfy chairs in the lounge room. âIâm nearly done.â âYeah, but if I help you, youâll be done faster, and I have a surprise for you.â Callum beamed brightly. âA surprise?â Rayla paused her peeling, âwhat sort of surprise?â

Dating a prince had its ups and downs, with one of the downs being that his partnerâs birthday was treated as a formal event with nobles all across the continent invited.
Unfortunately for Rayla, she was dating a princeâa cute, dumb, and dorky one, but still a prince.
So instead of kicking back and enjoying the day with the people she loved, she was dragged into a ball without her consent.
The noblewoman in front of her was still going on about all the things her husband had gifted her. Rayla tried her best to remain true to royal etiquette, but her patience was wearing thin. Her dress was uncomfortableânot because of the dress itself, but the lack of movement and freedomâand the atmosphere was too pompous for her liking.

WIP Wednesday Rayllum Mini-Month: History
âWell, itâs not me so much as Rayla,â Callum began, suddenly realising there was more to his request that he needed to sort out first. âBut before that, em, do you remember the moon opal pendant you gave Rayla that first time we were in the Silvergrove?â
Ethatriâs smile faltered a little, before he nodded. âI do.â
âWell, something happened to it and she doesnât have it any more-â
âI do not begrudge Rayla having to use the stone,â Ethari squeezed Callumâs shoulder reassuringly. âOr having to sell it-â
âShe didnât!â Callum insisted. âLose it or sell it or, well, she didnât do anything like that.â
Ethari blinked, clearly confused once again. âOh⊠well, thatâs good to know-â
âBut it did get destroyed.â
Taking a breath, Ethariâs confusion seemed to only deepen. âI donât understand-â
âIt was me, I broke it.â Callum said in a rush, wincing.
âOh,â Ethari paused.
âAnd not accidentally. On purpose.â Callum decided to just plow on. Everything would eventually make sense.
He hoped.
âShe gave it to me to remember her by because she was planning to stay behind and try and defend Zubeia against a demon army-â
âThat does sound like Rayla.â Ethari sighed, taking his arm back and crossing his arms over his broad chest.
âRight?!â Callum nodded, feeling a little more confident of his whole plan. âAnd I told her she was acting crazy-â
It was Ethariâs turn to wince-
âWhich, yeah, I know⊠not the greatest choice of words.â Callum waved his hand dismissively. âSo we got into an argument and she ran off-â
Furrowing his brow, Ethari took a breath, perhaps to interrupt.
âAnd I thought, well, maybe if we knew what had happened with her parents and stuff, maybe that would make everything make sense.â
Face softening, Ethariâs shoulders dropped. âAh.â
- Chipping away at the @rayllum-mini-month prompts!
Who likes domestic Rayllum, with a pinch of future father-in-law bonding and so call backs?

Six Sentence Sunday!!!

For the prompt âcelebrationâ!
The city square is a blur of colored lights and music and laughter and the smell of frying food. Bright banners on every door, bunting and lanterns and garlands of flowers strung overhead, rose petals and toy boats floating in the fountains. Performers juggle or swallow swords or breathe fire, children run through the streets giggling with pinwheels and sparklers. Everkynd is bright and electric and every wall seems to sing with excitementâŠ
And it all manages to fade into the background. Callum has eyes for Rayla and Rayla alone.

âWhatâd you find this time, Mr. Mage? Some sort of new spellbook?â She smiled at Callumâs excited expression, his eyes wide and a grin that stretched across his face.
âActually, no, not this time.â He stopped in front of her and pulled from his bag a thick book that looked like it would crumble to dust at the slightest gust of wind. âItâs a book with the history of the whole continent!â

Rayla lay in Callumâs bed, staring at the moon. She understood that this was probably the best place for her now, for them, but she found herself missing Callum more here. Theyâd been here before, obviously, but that seemed a lifetime ago.
Back then, they barely knew each other.
Sheâd been furious at him too, angry at him for putting her life on the line for what she thought was some dumb toy.
The Cube of Aaravos.
Maybe it would have been better left here? How would things have gone differently if sheâd refused to alter their course for him. If sheâd held firm and put the mission first.
Sheâd barely known him and his sad story and even sadder expression had tugged at her heart strings and even though sheâd known it would be stupid to allow his detour, sheâd found herself unable to deny him.
So, setting myself a goal of posting the next update of In Absentia for @rayllum-mini-month , specifically the "Family" prompt. đ
