“What can you tell me about elves, Prince Callum?”

What does he know about elves? He repeats the obvious, things everyone is told from childhood, same as the sky is blue or fire is hot. “They… live in Xadia. They’re kind of like humans but not- four fingers instead of five, pointed ears, and horns like a goat’s or deer’s. Sometimes wings or fangs. They do magic.”

“And? Is that really all you’ve ever learned?”

WIP Wednesday - Bloodthirsty

Their quiet cocoon is interrupted by a harsh knock on the door, a voice insisting he accept a scroll. Irritated, he pulls his pyjama pants up his hips, and marches towards the door. “Callum,” Rayla cautions, sitting up and reaching for his top. He sighs, contemplating answering the door as is before he thinks better of it. Hurrying over to her, he takes the tunic from her and pulls it over his head. “I look decent?” He smirks at her, smiling a little wider when she adjusts the collar for him. Pulling it a little tighter, that bit higher. “Never,” she snorts, caressing his jaw. “Prince Callum!” A gruff voice barks through the door and they both sigh in unison.

Rayllum Mini-Month: Family

Almost immediately after the sky turned red, a bloody glow across the night sky. Heart racing, Rayla approached the window once again, gazing out at the night sky. The red glow illuminated the night sky, giving her a full view of a growing cloud over where she knew to moon nexus to be.

Or… where it had been.

She bit her lip, hoping desperately that Aaravos had escaped the destruction, even if the thought made her sick.

He had to escape though. If he perished in the eruption, so would Callum.

Welcome to Rayllum Mini-Month!

We are pleased to offer the fandom an alternative Rayllum Month event this July. Rayllum Mini-Month will feature 4 prompts—1 per week, with a suggested posting date of Wednesday each week. (Don’t worry—we’ll be reblogging all month, in case you fall behind 😉). Use #rayllum mini-month 2025 when you post your work…and check out the tag to see everyone’s fantastic fanworks!

Fanworks of any and all kinds are encouraged as a part of this event, including mature and explicit works. We anticipate fanfic, fanart, meta, edits, playlists...or anything else you can come up with! Please be sure—as always!—to appropriately tag your works with warnings for potentially triggering content so that everyone can choose what fanworks they want to engage with.

Our aim is to provide another space to celebrate Rayllum Month, not to discourage participation in any existing fandom events. Not so sure about creating something yourself? Cheer on participants with comments, reblogs, and support!

weeeeee, I finished my first rayllum mini-month prompt!! the idea is basically snippets of rayla-feelings about Katolis castle (RIP, we miss you babe). Might do some additional sections but got 1.5k that can stand alone!

Six Sentence Sunday: Rayllum Mini Month!

Rayla snorted, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. “If you say so…” “I do say so,” Callum declared, reaching into the sink and grabbing a squash and knife, joining her with peeling. “Don’t worry about it,” Rayla shook her head at him. “Go relax. I’m sure those cubs were running rings around you. Again—” Callum chuckled, not denying the accusation. She bumped him with her hip, nodding at the comfy chairs in the lounge room. “I’m nearly done.” “Yeah, but if I help you, you’ll be done faster, and I have a surprise for you.” Callum beamed brightly. “A surprise?” Rayla paused her peeling, “what sort of surprise?”

Dating a prince had its ups and downs, with one of the downs being that his partner’s birthday was treated as a formal event with nobles all across the continent invited.

Unfortunately for Rayla, she was dating a prince—a cute, dumb, and dorky one, but still a prince.

So instead of kicking back and enjoying the day with the people she loved, she was dragged into a ball without her consent.

The noblewoman in front of her was still going on about all the things her husband had gifted her. Rayla tried her best to remain true to royal etiquette, but her patience was wearing thin. Her dress was uncomfortable—not because of the dress itself, but the lack of movement and freedom—and the atmosphere was too pompous for her liking.

WIP Wednesday Rayllum Mini-Month: History

“Well, it’s not me so much as Rayla,” Callum began, suddenly realising there was more to his request that he needed to sort out first. “But before that, em, do you remember the moon opal pendant you gave Rayla that first time we were in the Silvergrove?”

Ethatri’s smile faltered a little, before he nodded. “I do.”

“Well, something happened to it and she doesn’t have it any more-”

“I do not begrudge Rayla having to use the stone,” Ethari squeezed Callum’s shoulder reassuringly. “Or having to sell it-”

“She didn’t!” Callum insisted. “Lose it or sell it or, well, she didn’t do anything like that.”

Ethari blinked, clearly confused once again. “Oh… well, that’s good to know-”

“But it did get destroyed.”

Taking a breath, Ethari’s confusion seemed to only deepen. “I don’t understand-”

“It was me, I broke it.” Callum said in a rush, wincing.

“Oh,” Ethari paused.

“And not accidentally. On purpose.” Callum decided to just plow on. Everything would eventually make sense.

He hoped.

“She gave it to me to remember her by because she was planning to stay behind and try and defend Zubeia against a demon army-”

“That does sound like Rayla.” Ethari sighed, taking his arm back and crossing his arms over his broad chest.

“Right?!” Callum nodded, feeling a little more confident of his whole plan. “And I told her she was acting crazy-”

It was Ethari’s turn to wince-

“Which, yeah, I know… not the greatest choice of words.” Callum waved his hand dismissively. “So we got into an argument and she ran off-”

Furrowing his brow, Ethari took a breath, perhaps to interrupt.

“And I thought, well, maybe if we knew what had happened with her parents and stuff, maybe that would make everything make sense.”

Face softening, Ethari’s shoulders dropped. “Ah.”

Six Sentence Sunday!!!

For the prompt “celebration”!

The city square is a blur of colored lights and music and laughter and the smell of frying food. Bright banners on every door, bunting and lanterns and garlands of flowers strung overhead, rose petals and toy boats floating in the fountains. Performers juggle or swallow swords or breathe fire, children run through the streets giggling with pinwheels and sparklers. Everkynd is bright and electric and every wall seems to sing with excitement…

And it all manages to fade into the background. Callum has eyes for Rayla and Rayla alone.

“What’d you find this time, Mr. Mage? Some sort of new spellbook?” She smiled at Callum’s excited expression, his eyes wide and a grin that stretched across his face.

“Actually, no, not this time.” He stopped in front of her and pulled from his bag a thick book that looked like it would crumble to dust at the slightest gust of wind. “It’s a book with the history of the whole continent!”

Rayla lay in Callum’s bed, staring at the moon. She understood that this was probably the best place for her now, for them, but she found herself missing Callum more here. They’d been here before, obviously, but that seemed a lifetime ago.

Back then, they barely knew each other.

She’d been furious at him too, angry at him for putting her life on the line for what she thought was some dumb toy.

The Cube of Aaravos.

Maybe it would have been better left here? How would things have gone differently if she’d refused to alter their course for him. If she’d held firm and put the mission first.

She’d barely known him and his sad story and even sadder expression had tugged at her heart strings and even though she’d known it would be stupid to allow his detour, she’d found herself unable to deny him.

So, setting myself a goal of posting the next update of In Absentia for @rayllum-mini-month , specifically the "Family" prompt. 😉
