With Mildred, as I expected, I only had to explain once - which is why I hired her. Very soon it was, 'You'll regret that come Thursday, Ma'am' (the day we set aside for 'settling my account') or 'we'll be needing a little visit, Ma'am' if she decided that something couldn't wait. These quiet words always set me shivering with regret and quivering with excitement.

Dieting but went ahead and had dessert anyway? That would be Thursday. Overspending my dress budget? No sooner would the account arrive than I'd be nude and accumulating stripes - dozens, scores of them! And yes, very hard, and yes, fast... a breathtaking blitz, then Mildred's stern words, then another. And again. And again.

And the better my behavior, the higher her standards. It was soon clear that Thursday would not be missed, and the slightest misstep 'sorely' regretted. A single dour look from Mildred had me clenching my buttocks in anticipation and with trepidation, seldom without cause.

"I was hoping for a light session this week," she'd often say and 'As was I,' I'd automatically respond as she would continue with, "But..."
