Another Paul Notes on Daendels Grave

The remains of Mr. H. W. Daendels were interred in 1818 in the so-called Governor's Tomb at Elmina in Ghana. The tomb has withstood the test of time quite well, although it must have been 'touched up with cement' in recent times, so that any inscriptions (other than a date 1806 on an obelisk crowning the roof of the tomb) are no longer legible. In 1962, a small memorial plaque with the name H. W. Daendels and the dates 1762-1818 was attached to the tomb by friendly hand with support from private Dutch people.

This note came from the 1963 version of Paul book, I didn't realize that it's different until recently. In here, he didn't mention anything of Daendels remains being missing while the 1983 one (which is the one I have) says it 😯 My theory is by the time the 1963 ver came out, Daendels grave haven't been opened yet so no one knows yet.

I believe the small plaque placed in 1962 wasn't the same as the one I shared before but lowkey I haven't heard either of a plaque being put in his grave in Ghana. This is the first one. I'll try to look for it I hope it's recorded somewhere 🫡 Feel free to share u guys theories if had one. Anyway, that's all for now, thank you n have a great day, stay safe 🌙
