Is John Flanagan a good writer? I don't know, but younger tween me certainly thought so. Regardless of taste, John Flanagan has the funniest take on world-building I've ever seen in my life. somewhere out there right now is a kid with curly hair being raised by people who have wavy hair at best and those people are giving them 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and telling them to dry brush it. and that kid is gonna spend all of middle school and high school hating their hair and moping over the flat iron. they're being told right now that if they don't dry-brush their curl pattern into oblivion every morning it means they're unkempt and gross even though they naturally have the kind of ringlets that a thousand bridezillas would commit horrible murders for every june. it's happening right now it's an absolute epidemic and a tragedy every time

can you tell us more about working with a heat press?

I'm not sure what to say! It's very easy and handy. They're pretty affordable compared to a lot of tools you can only do one or two things with.. You can do custom clothing, what most people start with. I make pouches and tote bags and patches with it

You can use them to transfer images to wood items like I am lately.. For example I make my bookmarks but also I'm going to get back to jewelry boxes soon. I line those with velvet myself and add feet and lacquer them. I'm working on some wooden wall hangings. I've made wooden keychains too, but never listed them online. Wasn't confident they'd be wanted 🫣

Coasters and other stuff are doable too.. there's attachments/ specialized presses for custom plates and mugs and hats and stuff.

It's fun and nice having control over what I make in whatever quantity I want and not worry about minimum order quantities or "will this be popular or sit in my drawer". It's also nice to basically have a giant iron when I need it
