Why is it so important to you for them to be together?

It’s not important to me that they have to be together or that we’re “right”, I just really hate seeing people invalidate or negate everything they have shown us for the past ten years in order to fit their own narrative. Like so many people have pointed out, if this were a straight couple there would be no question.

I think people tend to view queer relationships from a different standard. Growing up, it was presented that being queer basically meant monogamy or a long term relationship were almost impossible because it was nothing but “hook ups” or a free-for-all lifestyle (which is fine); however, there was almost no representation to counteract that. I didn’t see a public committed queer couple until Ellen and Anne. And if a queer relationship was shown in the media, it was shown with drama/cheating/unhealthy consequences. So I think people can still be stuck in that mindset of not seeing same sex relationships on the same level as het ones.

So here you have Dan and Phil. Who, by all accounts, have a healthy, beautiful, strong relationship that was built on the foundation of friendship and trust. And people responded to that. Queer kids could look at them and see that it is possible to find a companion. It is possible to have someone who loves you unconditionally. They can look at them with hope; you can get a happy story too. It certainly wasn’t the narrative shown to me growing up. But here they are, showing us everyday a model for what it could be, for what everyone deserves.

Think about all the relationships that have formed because of them, the people who are using Dnp’s kindness and respect for one another as a baseline for their own expectations. They’re less likely to settle for being mistreated, because they’ve seen what it could be. (I won’t get on my soapbox about love models). They joke about the lesbian hookups they’re responsible for, but think about all the people using what they’ve seen in them and carrying that into their own partnerships. That’s incredible. I’d much rather them use DnP than whatever gay drama plot line a TV show is peddling.

So yeah, I think it’s important that we don’t belittle what they have, or try to change it. Dan spent half of last year saying the word “soulmate” in front of thousands of people. They’ve made it clear they’re a unit, and they’re a fucking fantastic unit. Let people look at that and feel hope for their own lives. Let them be happy.

this motherfucker really just walks out and stands there laughing while everyone’s screaming for him he’s so soft and i love him 

“where my lesbians at”, “any confused straight boys out there (that was me aged 13-JUST A PHASE)”, “any lowkey bisexuals out there” - a list of beautiful phrases that each came out of dan’s mouth at the beginning of this standup routine

dan attempting to run a marathon for charity (and to look good) and then giving up the night before is honestly the mood for us all 

“stomping on gay trauma with chunky running shoes” is the eventual and collective goal 

“this is a past tense story i’m telling right now” don’t call me out howell 

carb-loading and then not running, otherwise known as Just eating a bunch of carbs, is something i do quite often 

dan actually having to tell people he wasn’t gonna run i’m :(
