Hello. Is there any way to post to listservs/Hoagie without revealing my name/email? Thanks!
Response from Olive:
no, it would likely become problematic for students to be able to anonymously distribute emails to everyone

ECE Junior haven’t done both together, but some have. For me, car lab (5th class) and IW (4th class) diff sems were both pretty time consuming and each took a good chunk of my week w/ consistent progress. As someone who did many extracurriculars, I don’t think I could’ve done both together, but then again some have! And, I wasn’t aiming for grad school. Spring IW is an option too tho. Would suggest reaching out to ur advisor or someone like Hossein or Houck who might have a good perspective!
thank you!

@thesis advisor review question: not sure about other majors, but SPIA has a library of student reviews for thesis advisors. It’s not online, so you have to go in person to the SPIA office to ask for them!
thanks!

I submitted a Google Form, but just so that it's here too, is there a place for people to review senior thesis advisors? I want to make sure the prof I'm leaning toward will be good and wasn't sure if there was a website or something where ppl can review senior thesis advisors they've had in the past, thank you!
Response from Chewy:
I have not seen one thus far, unfortunately. Readers, let us know otherwise!

where can i buy a cheap fridge (not a microfridge) near pton? anyone selling or is there a website for pu students that sell their stuff?
Response from Olive:
you could try the Target nearby. not sure if you're a frosh or returning student but people will frequently advertise on res college list servs if you can get a current student to add you to yours / others or wait until you get to campus to.

@taking COS429: You absolutely do not need to take COS217 or know assembly or C to do computer vision! All the assignments are in Python, and the machine learning background in COS324 will set you up perfectly to understand all the material
thanks!

I am a riding junior in ECE, and I’m wondering, does anyone have advice on deciding whether to do independent work/research during the carlab semester? I’ve never done any independent work at Princeton and want to gain experience, but I also don’t want to have to compromise either the independent work or carlab due to not having enough time for both in the same semester. Would you recommend taking on IW during carlab?
I am a rising junior ECE major, and I’m wondering if anyone has any insight on whether I’m prepared to take COS429 (computer vision)— I saw on the course page that it is highly recommended that students take COS217 before attempting 429, but it is not required. I’ve taken COS 126, 226, and 324 and have no experience with C programming language . Anybody who (knows someone who) has taken 429 and can offer advice on whether I should have some familiarity w assembly code or should take cos217 before 429??
posting both of these in case any readers have insights!

can someone explain block 105? If you get only 105 meal swipes per sem and eat 3 meals per day, you only have a month's worth of swipes??
Response from Chewy:
Yes, but it's 105 + 30 (2 meals/week, 15 weeks for upperclassmen) for the semester, so it assumes you eat 9 meals/week.
It's a cost-efficient option for those who want to save some money on their meal plans and are ok with going out to Nassau/Wawa or getting their own groceries for the other ones.

Is it possible to sign in to an eating club in the fall and also participate in fall bicker and see how it goes?
Response from Olive:
eating club contracts are binding. once you sign the sign-in contract you're obligated to pay for the membership for at least that semester and sometimes the whole year depending on the club. sign-in clubs can usually accept members throughout the as long as they aren't at capacity, which is rare. I would recommend not signing in until after the results of fall bicker, but it would also be helpful to reach out to people in the club you're considering signing into to understand their procedures.
Response from Chewy:
Bicker first, then depending on results, you can sign in later. No refunds are processed after you sign the contract and pay for your membership, so the only risk is that you are out of meals for a few weeks.

Any paid leadership roles on campus besides RCA and Dormitory Assistant positions? I'm a junior and really havent found anything for me
Response from Olive:
that's about it besides being a Peer Academic Adviser or Peer Career Adviser, which would've been filled already but could be something to think about next year. also, if you're in an eating club and get elected to a position that lets you live in the club you can save on housing next year.

are res college deans accessible over the summer? How do i get in touch with them help
Response from Olive:
I'm pretty sure they work year-round minus some vacation time over the summer, so they should be accessible to some degree. Best method of contact is probably email then calling if you don't receive a response in a relatively timely manner.

can i bring a portable ac in my dorm? will i get fined?
Response from Olive:
ACs aren't allowed but fans are. if they find it during one of the random fire inspections, it's a warning the first time then a $50 fine for subsequent citations
