Nachito (2024)
This is Nachito, a cute female Veiled Chameleon! Her portrait was painted with acrylics on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. She is a piebald morph, so she has pink feet and white bands around her wrists and ankles! Very unusual, and not a color morph I have seen before.

Mala (2024)
This is Mala! This was my half of an art exchange with the wonderfully talented @visionaryartbyvajra on Instagram. They also painted an amazing portrait of my cat Chloe. This portrait was painted with acrylics on an 11" x 14" canvas, and was finished sometime in early March. The reference photo had a cool skull in it, and they wanted it included in the portrait, and I think that was a great choice! I used fluorescent paints, which really don't scan very accurately, but in the real life painting the eye sockets and nose of the skull kind of glow! And it is so cool!

Aldhelm's Brooch
Handmade by me, from Super Sculpey polymer clay, and painted with acrylic paints to resemble antique bronze. It measures 3 inches (10cm) in diameter. I sculpted onto a watchglass so I could get a curvature. The watchglass was removed after baking. It took me approximately 25 hours from start to finish.

A lot of fans talk about wanting a replica of Uhtred's sword. However, I wanted something more personal and meaningful to me. I had been planning to make this brooch for over a year now, and finally had the time and motivation to do so.
Progress photos and reference screenshots below the Keep Reading.

Progress photos. I rolled out the clay and molded it onto a watchglass. Then I printed out my sketch and used a pin to pinpoint the locations of the main features (the little spheres). Afterwards, it was just a lot of fiddly sculpting work to create the details. This was 100% done by hand; I did not use any molds or pre-created forms for this.

Painted version in indoor lighting.

Screencaps of the brooch. And you can see what I had to work with here, lol. Weird fact: his brooch changed color over the seasons! It was shiny gold colored in season 3, silver in season 4, and antique bronze in season 5. Don't know why it changed so much. Aldhelm's brooch is very unique and particular to him. He had a standard large bronze Mercian boar brooch in season 2, just like Aethelred, but for some reason that was changed to this one in season 3. It seemed to coincide with the change in his apparent personality, so I wonder if it was intentional or not?

Mia the British Shorthair Cat (2024)
A pet portrait painting of a cute grey British Shorthair cat named Mia, laying in the grass, which was her favorite thing to do. Acrylic painting on 9x12 inch (22.9 x 30.5 cm) stretched canvas, March 2024.
A big thank you to @whitedarkmoonflower for trusting me with capturing your girl's beauty on canvas! This was a fun one to paint due to all the subtle colors in her fur, as well as those fiery copper orange eyes! Grey fur has so much variation in colors from the lighting. It can appear blue or even violet in some areas, and creamy white in others. I also had a blast painting the grass and the out-of-focus background.

Lucy, Jack, Luna Ornaments (2024)
My first pet portrait commission of 2024 complete! These are hand painted on 3 inch (7.6 cm) diameter ceramic ornaments with acrylics. Top left is Lucy, middle right is Jack, and bottom left is Luna. I have not painted ornaments in a long time because the place where I order them had been out of stock for over a year! They still are, and I had to switch to a different company to get these! I hope I get to do many more this year, they are fun to paint! It is a challenge to get details on such a small surface so I have to use very small thin brushes.

Artist asks: 5, 18, 25, 30!
Thank you @thelettersfromnoone!
5. What’s your favorite thing to draw? At the moment? Aldhelm! lol! But after that, animals in general but wolves specifically.
18. What are you currently trying to improve on? Getting the tones and details just right. I am working on improving my realism style so that it looks more, realistic. Hyperfocusing on the details and getting the shadows and highlights perfect.
25. Do you like to draw in silence, or with music? I will usually play music while I am working. It sets the mood and keeps me from getting distracted.
30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist? There are many things that inspire me. The first being my own imagination, bringing my visions to life. The second is doing my commissions and that allows me to improve and do subjects that I may not otherwise paint. Third is other artists, their technique, style, the colors they use.
