Completed little guy! Burned my hand on some curry and took an extra day to finish but he's stuffed and closed!
I lowkey have an obsession with sea creatures. Literally, the first thing I figured out how to crochet was an octopus. It was tiny, lumpy looking, lacked an arm, and had arms of all different lengths. I loved it though, and I wanted to make it better. Amigurumi style crochet is also what I started out with and as I got better with that, the octopus I could crochet looked better. It was pretty difficult considering I couldn't make sense of crochet patterns just yet.
Tumblr media
I've made them with jumbo yarn, red heart, Caron, button eyes, safety eyes, embroidered, just about any kind I could get a hold of. Pretty obsessed.
I found a similar weight yarn to the first one i made in my stash and thought I'd try making it with about the same size hook I had then (broke that one trying to crochet with embroidery floss. Had to find a new one same size.)

I've only done the increase rounds and my hands are sooooorrrreeee. The label on the yarn suggests a 5mm hook, and I used 3.75. Tbh I would not recommend either, 4mm-4.5mm might be better for tight stitching with this weight
Tumblr media
In the meantime, I'm gonna rest my hands and probably just post the lil guy tomorrow once it's fully done. Kinda hard taking pictures of the process, but I need to get used to it.

He's not done yet, had a bit of a busy day and the hands are still sore, but I figured I would post an update.
Tumblr media
The one odd eyebrow is my row marker and the starting tail, but he has eyes, a mouth, and arms now! Mostly, it just needs stuffed and closed up, but it could pretty easily hold its form without stuffing. I tried tapping it, and it made a dense thump noise without deforming the shape at allllll. He may be frowning, but this lil guy is tuff stuff for sure.

Hello hello again, I've had an odd few weeks and have been unable to manage the time or brain space to try and post till now. Now I have it, it's just an odd hour, but we're making it work.
For the past few months, I've gained a technique in crochet that I haven't seen many others utilize, and lately I've been using it to make stars without sewing. And I've been a little obsessed with it.
I still don't fully know how to explain how to do it (preemptive apologies on that) but I've been working on it. I've made
Tumblr media
Obviously, I start off making one with eyes like on Mario. He's kinda powerstar shaped, but he ended up stuffed like a luma. I love him, he squishes nice and he has obvious points.
I've made dozens in smaller sizes and trying to take it much much larger as well.

Even making a pillow out of some yarn I wanted to just use up and test with. It's so cozy to hold and lean against too. There's an obvious twist from the center portion I started in heading out (started on the multi-blue side), the purple ended up a bit flat, and the last few rounds had some gaps in the stitches, but it formed more or less how I wanted it.
I also have a bit of an obsession with sea life, so I wanted to see about making an odd sea star and...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made a brittle star... it certainly looks like one to me and the goal was met, but it's one of those things that you make and you don't quite know how to feel about.
Tumblr media
And like I said: no sewing. Not a single one (unless you count slip stitching 2 rows of sc together as sewing, then the brittle star has some)

Another project I really love, it was a lot to try to put together at the time and I don't think i have the patience or focus to try and recreate. it's about the only time I've used the crocodile stitch too, other than a test swatch. It was also crocheted in the round, which I couldn't find resources on how to do at the time (cant remember how, but I can confirm it's possible!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also scaled the stitch down overall for the top part, using sc wherever there was a dc instead, and frankly they held up their shape a bit better than the regular scales.
I'd love to see the smaller version of the stitch used elsewhere, so I might make something using that eventually.
Tumblr media
The inside for those wanting those details.

Hello hello! I'm starting to try and post here regularly to show off some of the things I've made. I'm looking forward to sharing the things I've crocheted and plan to try and post at least once a week, but I'll apologize ahead of time as I'm not used to actually posting yet, I'm more of a lurker on other social media sites.
I figured I would start off with a small thing I made when my fiance was teaching me to play GOAT format in yugioh, and I just loved the card scapegoat. It seemed easy enough to create 1 so I crocheted 2 sets and used a card tin to store them. While we were playing we would use them as the tokens when the card came up and decided if they were standing they were in defense position, if they were on their back it was attack.
We still use them on occasion as tokens for modern games at locals but haven't been able to for anything in advanced format since Konami no longer allows it.
They're decently simple to make and I love making them.
