i just can’t understand why gamers despise the show so much when these shots ALONE exist, let alone the 6th ep promo pics. it’s clear this show is made with so much reverence for the game even if it’s not a 36+ hours of dina and ellie running around looking for gas (and don’t get me wrong i love it. but maybe just respect the medium difference)

don’t love how some of the only questions bella is ever asked on press tours revolves around their relationship with pedro. seems a little off but that’s just me being woke i guess

making my resurgence on tumblr for this. obviously people were going to have their problems with this scene because this fandom is allergic to letting qualified people do their jobs and do it well without WHINING. but this particular complaint bothered me.
“why is abby calling joel handsome?”
abby isn’t complimenting joel. she isn’t attracted to him. my guess (very plausible, in my humble opinion) is when the fireflies interviewed the nurses, the only people spared from joel’s massacre, gave their description of him and mentioned his handsomeness becuase of that shock factor. because a stereotypically handsome person, like joel (both game and show), is counter-intuitive to that level of violence. we don’t associate beautiful people with acts of barbarism. they were most likely in shock. and abby heard them say it and latched onto it. I mean, who wouldn’t? if someone shot my unarmed parent in the head (“unarmed” said in quotes, it’s more complicated than that. but i’m operating with abby’s level of knowledge here) and i had to find their brains spewed on the floor, i would go batshit fucking insane. and the people, who got to be with my parent in their last moments, are calling their murderer handsome? of course you would cling onto that. it would make me sick. and so, in her (well-written and well-deserved btw) monologue, of COURSE she harps on that. to spit that same venom back into her worst nightmare’s face. to insult him. to say “sure, you might be handsome. doesn’t mean that you aren’t going to die, painfully and slowly, for what you did.”
i have more counter arguments to people’s STUPID FUCKING COMPLAINTS so prepare for that i suppose.

i really hate medical dramas. can’t stand greys, chicago, the good doctor, WHATEVER i hate them.
i needed a show to put on in the background while i was folding about 300-400 zines (don’t ask) and i said “well, the pitt seems like something i don’t have to pay attention to and i can laugh when it’s stupid.”
WELL NOW I’M OBSESSED. I WATCHED 12 EPISODES BACK TO BACK. i’m refreshing AO3 every hour istg. i’m starting ER and im ANNOYED. don’t ask me how i feel about langdon/mel, im incredibly conflicted. UGHHHHHHHH WHYYYYYY

I keep rotating season 2 episode 1 in my mind because it's just such a perfect example of disrupting labor organizing, of splitting a united team with a clear goal into factions and pitting those factions against each other so a company can more effectively exploit everyone
The propaganda video is the first most obvious thing, because anyone who has worked in a non-union workplace (but especially food service and retail) is more or less familiar with that video. It features happy, aggressively friendly actors dressed in your work uniform or dress code, telling you about the family spirit that makes your workplace so great (please don't unionize please please baby don't unionize), about how open communication and neat perks and whatever other bullshit they're selling can replace your need for higher wages and better protections on the job.
Now if you end up starting to form a union, the first thing bosses will do is attempt to split the workplace up, to weaken that solidarity. We saw a bit of it in season 1-- only one team member gets to stay for the waffle party. The team can participate in the MDE, but incentives like that are very explicitly a reward to honor one member of the team, not the entire team. Lumon uses these little incentives to drive severed workers to compete, which can end up fostering resentments and driving a wedge between them
And that escalates dramatically in just the first episode of season 2. Mark and Helly's kiss being shared and celebrated in the propaganda film, while Irving's romance (the entire reason he wanted to fight back to begin with) is erased from the narrative entirely. Burt is edited out of the scene in O&D, his existence and death never even acknowledged, which may end up fueling a split between Mark and Helly (or Helena, who knows?) And Irving and Dylan.
Dylan being told about the (definitely sincere if taken at face value) plans for a special unit to allow him to see his family, which he is told to keep secret because his coworkers don't have families and might get jealous. That feels very reminiscent of the boss giving you a tiny raise and warning you not to tell your co-workers because they'll just be jealous of you.
Lumon is leaning into these divide and conquer tactics the same way any other company would when faced with worker solidarity. By giving some people perks and some people punishments, by encouraging secrets and resentments and disunity
I imagine this will only escalate whenever we end up seeing the terrifying "perks" advertised in the propaganda film, like bobbing for pineapples and the funhouse mirror
