Ok. This is so Hange coded.
Whatever you do, I'll do it too Show me everything and tell me how It all means something And yet nothing to me
I can see there's so much to learn It's all so close and yet so far I see myself as people see me Oh, I just know there's something bigger out there
I wanna know, can you show me? I wanna know about these strangers like me Tell me more, please show me Something's familiar about these strangers like me
(This one is Levi) Every gesture, every move that she makes Makes me feel like never before Why do I have This growing need to be beside her?
Ooh, these emotions I never knew Of some other world far beyond this place Beyond the trees, above the clouds Oh, I see before me a new horizon
I wanna know, can you show me? I wanna know about these strangers like me Tell me more, please show me Something's familiar about these strangers like me
Come with me now to see my world Where there's beauty beyond your dreams Can you feel the things I feel Right now, with you? Take my hand There's a world I need to know
I wanna know, can you show me? I wanna know about these strangers like me Tell me more, please show me Something's familiar about these strangers like me
I wanna know...

ok, but imagine that Levi want to glasses’s Room since Hange gave him permission to borrow one of their books and Levi take out Hange’s diary instead.
Levi doesn't really know what he's doing here, why is he still here, in this room that reeks like an old, forgotten library that suffered some terrible food-related accident.
Hadn't he already finished what he came here for in the first place? The weirdo is in their bed, snoring peacefully (and rather loudly) in their pillow, so why is he still here? Why doesn't leave? Why do his legs feel as though they're glued to the floor, refusing to move towards the exit?
It’s the state of the room that is at fault, Levi convinces himself. It’s just– so damn filthy in here - the clothes are thrown over every surface, empty plates and cups populate the wardrobe, desk and even some corners on the floor, and, worst of all, is the papers - open and long-forgotten letters, books, half-finished reports, sketchbooks and journals - there is enough of that shit to create several piles of considerable size, and dust that all of it has been gathering for, evidently, quite some time, flies around in a form of small specks, sucking all the air out of the room.
Levi… Levi simply cannot take it.
The room is hideous, an abomination he needs to do something about, and… why can’t he?
The four-eyed freak is fast asleep, and, judging by the dark circles that have been steadily growing in size under their eyes, they won’t wake up for quite some time. It’s the perfect opportunity, perhaps, the only one he’ll ever have - after all, he better than anyone knows just how much Hange hates it when someone invades their workplace. Even Moblit, their ever loyal right-hand man, doesn’t have that privilege.
But Levi has it now, and wasting it would be simply stupid.
With his next cause of action decided, Levi nods to himself and finally gets legs to move. In a few quick steps he crosses the room and leaves it, but– not for long.
He comes back swiftly, dressed and armed according to the battle he’s about to face.
He starts with the window - opens it and pulls the curtains aside, letting sunlight and some needed fresh air inside. Then, he picks up all the clothes, brings them outside to the laundry basket, collects the cups and plates and returns them to the kitchen. He mops the floor, cleans the mirror, wipes dust from the wardrobe and the bookshelves.
And after that, semi-satisfied with his job so far, Levi takes on his toughest opponent yet - Hange’s work desk.
Before taking a seat on a chair, he wipes it with a rug several times, gives the same treatment to the surface of the desk, and only then begins to shift through the mess that four-eyes calls their workplace.
They’ll thank him for that later, or - maybe, curse him, Levi’s ready for whatever outcome as long as his goal is achieved. No doubt, it’ll be worth it. And even if Hange indeed gets angry with him - luckily, he’s that much better at running than they will ever be.
He briefly scans through each piece of paper, organizing all of them in different - smaller and that much neater - piles.
Hange really is a hoarder, Levi finds reports and letters that are so old that the ink on them is barely visible, but even that - he doesn’t dare to throw away. He may be faster than Hange, but if they truly get mad at him, he knows there will be no safe place for him to run to.
He spends nearly an hour like this - picking up a paper, skimming through its contents before deciding on what pile it should go to, and it’s only when his eyes begin to water from the exertion that Levi stumbles upon something truly unique.
It’s a stack of papers, tied loosely together by a piece of rope, and at first - he thinks it’s yet another set of notes. But as he starts to read it - Levi realizes it’s something entirely different.
On the first page Hange writes about the Survey Corps - the approximate number of the soldiers, their mission, their biggest accomplishments, the chain of command and all that boring bullshit Levi never thought they cared about. He very nearly tosses it aside, but decides to glimpse at a second page, and what he sees there stuns him into a stupor.
The top part of the page reads simply Shadis, and next to it - Hange drew a little heart.
Too curious to set it aside now, Levi delves in. After quite an unconventional beginning, Hange writes Shadis’ title, the amount of years he served in the Survey Corps and what little he managed to achieve in that time, and then - the weirdness continues. Hange describes some of the interactions they had with him, how their first meeting went, how aloof the man was during it and how it only made Hange’s wish to impress him stronger. They go on and on about him, the page is full of compliments that, in Levi’s completely unbiased opinion, Shadis does not deserve. It’s only near the end that Hange’s gushing starts to fade, transforming into bitter resentment instead.
It’s not a report, Levi realizes, not a note from an experiment, it’s something deeply personal, something he definitely should not pock his nose into, but as he skips through a few pages and stumbles upon the one with his name on it - his curiosity grows too insistent not to be sated.
‘Erwin brought in new recruits,’ the beginning of the page reads, ‘From the Underground, if rumors are to be believed. They do seem very pale, and all three of them have this look in their eyes, like… like they cannot quite believe that what they see is real. I caught them on top of the roof the other night, they were looking at the sky like they were seeing it for the very first time. It was not a moment that should have been intruded on, no matter how much I wish I did. Besides, I feel that should I have actually intruded on it, that constantly brooding guy - Levi - would have thrown me down the roof and to the ground without hesitation. So, naturally, I did not approach them. Although, I still stuck around for a while, watching them. The look on their faces, their happy smiles! Ah, I haven’t seen so much joy in a really long while. Even Levi seemed content, and, I must admit, without his ever present scowl, he looked even more handsome than usual.
I definitely should talk to him, and soon - he might teach me a trick or two, if I get on his good side. We might even become friends! There is just something in him that… intrigues me. Sometimes I look at him and realize I don’t want to look away. It’s not just his exceptional skills either, although they surely are fascinating, there is something about his eyes. They make him look like a man twice his age, they’re guarded, appear nearly cold, but underneath all that, I sense… exhaustion, like he’s carrying a burden he cannot shake away.
Ever since the three of them appeared, everyone has been treating them with nothing but scorn, and I wish… I could have changed it, show them all a bit of kindness. It doesn’t seem like they know much of it.
They’re good people, I think, despite the circumstances they had to fight against while growing up. Or, perhaps, in spite of them. We’d be good friends, I think, if I manage not to scare them off like I usually do. And then - who knows, maybe, one day, I’ll make Levi smile too!
His smile does look very handsome.’
Feeling his cheeks grow hot, Levi pushes the papers aside, hiding them underneath one of the bigger piles. He hides his face into his hands and mutters a curse under his breath.
Damned four-eyes. Always making him embarrassed, even when they’re not actually here.
What even is that thing? Why pathologically obsessed with their research Hange dedicates their precious time to write something like this? And about him of all people?
Levi steals a glance at them - still asleep, sprawled out on the bed and hugging a pillow to their chest, they look… adorable. Did they always look like that? He can’t believe he never noticed.
As if drawn by some force beyond his comprehension, Levi stands up and approaches Hange’s sleeping form. They’ve kicked the blanket down to their feet, and, carefully, he picks it up and tucks them in.
He stands above them for another moment, watching their peaceful expression, and then, before he can stop himself, he reaches out and gently moves a strand of their hair out of their face. He caresses their cheek with the back of his hand, his touch so light Hange doesn’t even stir from it. His hand hovers above them for a little longer, close enough that he can feel the warmth emanating from their skin. The temptation to touch it, to feel that warmth and allow himself to be engulfed in it is strong, and grows stronger with every beat of his heart.
Levi nearly does it, but then - the spell might get broken. Or worse, he reasons, his rude intrusion might wake Hange up, and if they see him like that, watching them like some sort of a creep - he’d rather jump off the top of the Wall than go through this.
Gathering all that’s left of his resolve, he takes a step back and leaves Hange’s room before he does something even more stupid.
He goes straight to his bedroom, and, foregoing the shower, falls into bed.
His cleaning spree must have exhausted him far more than he thought, because he falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow.
And at night, Levi dreams of starry sky, warm hands and gentle smile.

You think levi missed hange while he was in the woods with zeke
Two days.
Not a week, not even half a week, just two damned days, and Levi was already miserable.
Before, the woods, which temporally became his new home, gave him a sense of security, providing a perfect springboard for fighting against Titans, and an indescribable feeling of warmth that enveloped him whenever he and other Scouts spent the night by the fire, entertaining each other with jokes and stories. But now, the very same woods did not seem safe, or anywhere near warm.
The danger wasn't imminent, not as pressing as the approaching Titans, but Zeke's calculating gaze set Levi off all the same. And although the Scouts he’d brought along for the missions were good, loyal soldiers, they were not Levi's friends. They respected, but didn't like him.
And the food was plain, and his bed was cold, and he felt as though he was slowly going mad with boredom, but– Levi knew that all of it were just excuses.
Yes, his environment was less than comfortable, his circumstances were far from being perfect, but then again, was there even a single moment in his life when it had been different?
He was a Scout, his environment was always less than comfortable, his circumstances have never even gotten close to be considered perfect, but- he weathered through it all, didn't he? Not even once he felt so miserable because of it, but this time...
This time, the one that he always went to complain to, the one with a witty joke always up her sleeve, the one, who could make any shitty occasion better just by the virtue of being there, by Levi's side... was not by his side.
He tried not to dwell on it too much, he had so much on his plate already, but– everytime he sat down to eat the insipid soup cooked by one of his subordinates, he was inevitably reminded how good Hange's stew tasted or how, when she wasn't the one cooking, her jokes or just her sheer presence made the process of eating even the most revolting of meals that much more pleasant; and when he went to his cold and lonely bed, he could only sigh, remembering how good it felt to share the bed with Hange, how safe and warm she made him feel, how nice it was to wake up in the morning and be greeted by the sight of her face only inches away from his.
Levi was sure that even dealing with Zeke would not be half as hard, if Hange was there with him. She'd know what to answer to all his jabs, after all, she'd shut him up, she'd make him feel like a fool, instead of the other way around, of that Levi had no doubt.
But... Hange wasn't there, could not be there. And no matter how much Levi might need her, no matter how much he missed her, their duties came first, they always did.
Although, even that could not stop Levi from thinking about her. Was Hange alright? Healthy? Did she eat and sleep well? Who was making sure of that while he was away? Was she more successful in dealing with the younger of the Yeager brothers than was Levi in dealing with the older one? Did that brat stir up any more trouble? Was she safe?
Levi had half a mind to write to her, if only to see her messy scribbles, to read what she had to say, since he wasn't there to listen to hear. But what could he write to her about? As Hange's Captain, he had already reported that they’ve reached the woods safely, and received his answer too - a detailed instruction on how to proceed in case Zeke decides to stop playing the role of a caring big brother and a faithful ally to Eldia, and shows his true colors.
To write to Hange without anything major to report, to simply bitch about his conditions or his less than pleasant company, to inquire about Hange herself, just so he could quell his needless worry would not be simply callow, it'd be... childish, pathetic. An act, worthy of a, perhaps, worried lover, but not of a Survey Corps officer.
And, as life very much enjoyed reminding him, he was not allowed to be a worried lover, he was not allowed to be a lover at all. He was a Captain of the Survey Corps, humanity’s strongest soldier. He could not let himself be distracted, could not be anything else, besides the role assigned to him, written to him by the cruel reality they had no right to disregard.
So, Levi suppressed his impulses, shoved all of his unnecessary, distracting thoughts to the back of his mind and focused on his mission, one that Hange had entrusted him with, one that she believed only he was capable of carrying out.
And he performed his duties diligently - made sure his squad was safe and not up to some dumb mischief that could get them into trouble, scouted the woods out on the off chance that some loyal to Zeke idiot somehow finds the way to their hideout, watched Zeke closely, like a hawk, preparing for what he was confident was inevitable - for the moment when Zeke drops all pretenses and shows his true intentions.
And... he waited, patiently and obediently, hoping - and trying to convince himself that no other option was possible - that when he meets with Hange again, she will be alright.
And he'll be alright too, and once they reunite, they won't ever have to part again.

“What if we lived together?”
The first time they think about it, Levi has made them laugh. Someone had killed Sawney and Bean, and they have been crying all morning. It felt like nobody understood, how important they actually were to get a figment of truth. So many comrades were put through the worst of risks, just to capture them alive, it made them buzz with rage, too.
“Your face looks stupid.”, Levi tells them, instead. And he’s right. Their eyes are puffy, to the point they can barely open them. He would have made a joke, if it wasn’t because he’s only a bit concerned. “Now are you gonna sit around whining like a baby all day or what?”
Hanji cleans their tears off with the sleeves of their jacket. It’s not a nice image; their nose is red, and the fabric ends up stained with a splotch of wetness and snot. Levi has the immediate urge to turn his head the other way, but then hands them his pocket cravat, anyways.
“If you’re not gonna be of help, just go, okay?”, they say, with their tone tired and their voice rough. They’re in their lab, where they’ve locked themselves after hearing the news. The place’s a mess; like a tornado’s turned it on its axis. There are papers ruffled, thrown upon the floor; books taken out of their shelves, piled up on the desk. To Levi, it doesn’t take long to figure out it was them; their wild, seeking for liberation during breakfast time.
“If you want me to help, then move your ass out to the diner.”, he sits down next to them; his back against the wall. Hanji’s knees are flexed, pulled towards their chest, and they’re crying again besides him. “You’re an ugly crier, you know that, right?”, he speaks once more.
They raise a brow at him. There’s a softness that lies within his words that makes them perk their head up, stare deep into his irises. As if he’d wanted to comfort them in that own, unique way of his. It’s not like he’s completely wrong, either, though. They’ve seen it. Petra cries beautifully, like tears are snowflakes melting on their cheeks. But theirs are snowstorms, somewhat similar to acid rain. They’re not careful, or pretty, or delicate. Their heart’s too emotional, and it burns like fire. After all, they have always been too quick to let their impulses show the worst of them.
Levi sighs.
“You’d look less stupid if you smiled.”, he says. And then, he does something that makes Hanji freeze with shock. He inches up closer, like he’s calculating his moves, and places down his fingers at the corners of their mouth. It’s a gesture that’s too intimate, even for a guy that’s stuck-up like him. Still, it gets the job done. “See?”, he adds, when a genuine, whole-hearted laugh bursts out of Hanji. “There you go.”
“What if we lived together?”
The second time, it’s a late autumn night. They have suggested it, though only vaguely. “There’s so much we could do inside…!”, they’d said, on a frantic whim, earlier on that day. It was a gentle vision to latch onto, if they were honest; to play family like that. They would knit mittens for the kids before winter, and Levi’d keep the place warm— brew them his best tea.
“Would you rather…”, they ask him now. They’re lying in bed; his head on their stomach, their hands on his hair. The wooden cabin they’re staying at is small, yet cozy, with enough room for everybody. “Read people’s minds, or… be able to fly…?”
Levi shrugs. The ODM is pretty similar to flying, he guesses. Still, it’s not like he ever enjoyed getting involved in other people’s business, either way.
“Fly.”, he says, short and sweet. And Hanji hums, content. Maybe, because they knew that that would be his answer.
“Hm.”, they tug at black locks; fingers lost amidst his scalp. They’re staring at the ceiling, dressed in his sweatshirt and pajama pants. For a moment, they can pretend that this is all there ever was, if only. They’d tell bed-time stories to the children, about heroes and monsters. But it’d be just fiction, and there’d be no need to make wishes to the stars. “If you could fly somewhere, then, where would you go?”
Levi thinks about it for a second. He’d heard Armin talk, about the content in his books. Lands of fire, where sand would reach beyond sight. Snowed mountains, where earth seemed covered by frozen white. The ocean; an infinite mass of salt-water that touched past the further horizons.
He had always been curious about that one.
“The beach.”
Hanji closes their eyes. They can frame the picture, even when tirelessly awaken. They have a wide, two-floored house near the shore, with a white fence and a porch. They’re not on the run anymore; Titans nothing but a memory that fades with the foam.
It’d be wholesome, they think. They could have rooms for each the kids, let them decorate the walls however they pleased. Levi’d nag them about it, for being too messy or unclean. Then they’d brush it off over home-made lunch, sit outside to watch the waves.
“Aye, idiot.”, they whisper. And they can listen; their voice melting off to the sounds of the sea. Like they’re there already; with sun in their hair and sand on their feet. “Tell me something nice.”
Levi keeps quiet, probably a minute or two. He’d never been a man of word, but he can sense it, too. Sasha’d spend the day fishing, bring in weird creatures to cook. Armin’d collect sea-shells on the shore, maybe keep them between the pages of a book. And he’d sweep the floors while humming, sit by the window to breathe in the view.
“You could put your knitting skills to use.”, he complies, finally. Outside, the word sits silent, only the night to guard this conversation. “It’s getting cold as fuck.”
“What if we lived together?”
The third time, they actually speak it. Fearless. Aloud. Like the words have bloomed out of them before they could choke down the feeling.
Maybe, it’s because Levi sleeps, and there’s no chance he can hear their thoughts. Maybe, it’s because it’s danger— thinking like they do. But there’s some sense of safety in talking truths when no one listens.
“It’d be nice, huh?”, they whisper, more to themselves than anybody. They’d dreamed about it, really. Clutched desire to their heart like it was specs of golden. It was the beach, first. But now it didn’t even matter. It could be the mountains of white snow, the endless sandy dessert. Or right here, at the forest. They’d wear the plaid-shirts Levi hated, then he’d take them off, shut them up between kisses and jokes. He’d make them his in the bed they’d share, too; their mornings filled with the smell of pine and burnt log.
“If we run and hide like this… where would that get us?”, he says, barely minutes after. And he’s right again. He always is, Hanji’s sure. They’re a fierce dreamer, indeed. Someone who’d wish hard, with every fragment of their soul. Yet, they also know, they can’t abandon their wild— the raw nature that’s in them to see light in this world.
“Oh…”, they bit their lip, sharp until it stings. Blood burns in their cheeks, has tinted pink the tip of their nose. “You did hear me, after all…”
Levi nods, and takes a look at the hand that hurts. He’s too tired, or too scared to ever dare talk. So, instead, he stares; his eye clung to Hanji’s, with the intensity of a thousand colored fireworks. Truth is, he does want the same as them, after all. The poppy garden, the greenery, a tea-shop. But isn’t it too late to ask now? Isn’t tranquility a price that soldiers like them can’t afford?
“Hanji…”, his voice cracks at the words. A tear’s falling down their face, followed by one and then another. It’s not the ugly cry from the years before, where their sobs would resemble a loud, broken water-pipe. Now, it’s all hushed, quiet; like tear-tracks are stars against the dark of their lashes.
The realization of it doesn’t make him smile, though.
Isn’t it too late now, to confess such a thing? Isn’t love the worst of curses in times of war?
It is.
It is.
It’s too late now.

Manga: Telework Yotabanashi
Mangaka: Yamada Kintetsu
I found out about Telework Yotabanashi while scrolling through some Levihan fanfics and this story has brought such light and warm feelings to me the past couple of days while I'm still coping with the end of AOT.
I found that there were multiple similarities between the main characters of this series and Hange and Levi of AOT. It's pretty obvious that the mangaka for Telework had to have had some inspiration from AOT. From our characters designs, to their personalities, to some of the stuff they say, there's so much that can analyzed, but I did want to talk a little bit about the ending.
At the end of this 20 chapter manga, Izumi, our female lead character, tells us that's she's having deja vu where they are by this tree. This tree looks awfully familiar *cough* and she explains why she's having deja vu. And the main male lead character, Nokoru, says that his other home and where they are now feels like paradise. For a while I thought Paradis island was Paradise, so I interpreted this as our mangaka telling us, without telling us, that this was indeed his homage to AOT.
This whole ending scene made me cry tears of happiness. I felt like the mangaka wanted to give a "reborn again" type of story to Levi and Hange and this is what he made. It's cute, it's funny, it's adorable and even though this story and our characters stood out to me as their own, I couldn't help but feel happy that this is the timeline that they finally got to feel peace. And for that, this manga will hold a special place in my heart. I wish it was longer, but I'm happy it exists and that I had the pleasure of reading it.
End of me blurting out my thoughts and feelings because I needed to.

Two and a half years have passed since I wrote "The Secret Society of the Forest Children", a Levihan fanfiction that I posted on AO3. And now, with the anime ending, I've been driven to come back here and wistfully wander through my own words, my vision, and who I was back then. I have reread my comments on the fanfics I was reading at the time (a warm greeting to @tundrainafrica, @djmarinizelablog, @fanmoose12 and many more writers whose stories inspired me SO deeply), and I have remembered how much this story has marked me. Honestly, I don't know what this is about. With the last chapter airing I felt the need to give myself some peace of mind again with the ending that was given to us so I wrote another fanfic. However, I feel that this does not completely ease my heart. I reread my first fanfic too, Hange, and I could tell how my resentment towards Eren was fresh and alive at that moment. The last story I wrote I also did as a way to make peace with him and with SNK for taking away my favorite character haha. I feel shy commenting on this, but it's like I'm mourning my favorite character again. My dear Hange Zoë. And between the nostalgia and the new Voice Dramas released, I think I remembered why I embraced them so much, and I still do. To me, Hange is a symbol of something beautiful: the ability and strength to dare to live life with emotion, to observe with curious eyes, and to treat others with kindness and compassion. To be authentic, laugh with innocence and enthusiasm even in a world that can be cruel. For me Hange is synonymous with that kind of freedom. And this space has been a beautiful place of connection between those of us who, I believe, saw something more in this character too (along with Levi, of course, my beloved Levi). In honor of that connection and its meaning, maybe, I wrote this.
And I hope that in a parallel world, our dear Levihan is doing laundry and taxes together.
A hug.

The Library That’s Covered In Dust
Tumblr media
DISCLAIMER: This is a fan translation, so 110% accuracy is not guaranteed. However, we did our best to keep it as close to the original as possible without breaking English.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The place that the Survey Corps decided to take shelter from the rain was in an old castle that had a strong structure, regardless.  The echoing sound of rainfall beating against the large windows created a noisy atmosphere.
“No way… What a mountain of treasure!! Those ancient writings… If I could read them that would be nice. What the!? I still can’t decode this!”
That backside of someone who was lively as ever, merrily searching for documents was Hanji’s.
“Oi, Kuso-Megane. Did you let your squad members free to roam the place, leisurely?”
“Ah, Levi? That’s not the case because Moblit is taking care of everyone’s concerns. He’s an excellent and valuable subordinate, isn’t he?”
Without looking back, Hanji searched through the books – various types of ancient documents and picture scrolls, that were in this room which seemed to be a library in the past. She tried to pull a book from a place much higher up than her own height, and staggered.
“Ohhh!!”
“Tch!”
Because mountains of books were caused to fall down, altogether, he barely managed to snatch the neck of her jacket, pulling her out of the way.
“Uwaa… You saved me, Levi. If I was hit by such a large amount of books, it would have been a spot that would make my head strange.”
“Don’t worry. It wouldn’t become any weirder. Honestly, you should pay more attention to your surroundings.”
Hanji corrected her hanging, dislocated goggles. She then brushed the dust off of the book she had taken out.
“This book here, for example… This old castle that exists inside the walls, there are many books and stored supplies written with letters that we can’t read right now. Such historic ruins are dotted in great number inside the walls. Seems like an extinct civilization, doesn’t it?”
“Don’t tell me the extent of your outlook. After all, I know your head is sharp. This is why I tell you that your life is important. If it weren’t for me being here right now and you were hit in a fragile place, the bones of your neck would have been broken.”
“You’re kind.”
Levi felt as though he were annoyed. He even made a face as if to show he was in a bad mood. He hates his own character being expressed with such words.
“You say this on purpose, knowing that I don’t like it.”
“Ah ha ha! Saw right through me, huh?”
Hanji, then, sat of the floor with a thump. She opened a book while lifting her face.
“What sort of business is it, so soon?  You came to see me, didn’t you?”
“Ah. It’s about Eren. He wants permission to roam around this old castle, that as a military, we give the approval for him to come out of the basement.”
“It’s safe. The outer walls here were build using a solid method of construction. Furthermore, in the unlikely event that Eren transforms into a titan and busts through the roof, there are a good number of footholds on the tower for our maneuvering equipment……. Ah, if only I could understand the meanings of these pictures while cramming in the impressions of these books and such…” Hanji said, carelessly.
“Understood. That helps…Also…”
“Yes?”
“Before searching the place, dry the clothes on your body. It’s unseemly that your shirt is showing through.”
He points at the fire in a fireplace which was probably lit by Moblit who was worried about the soaking wet superior officer. Levi glared at her with a look in his eyes as if looking at raw garbage.
“Understood. It would be good if I read over there.”
Levi sighed at the view of Hanji’s back as she slowly moved to position herself before the fireplace, and then he left the room.
NOTES: “Raw Garbage” is the literal translation of the word “Namagomi”; nama meaning “raw” and “gomi” meaning “trash”. Interestingly, “nama” can also mean “crude” if used colloquially. I’m not sure if this is the case with “Namagomi”, however given the context, the scenario it’s being used in, it makes me wonder if he meant crude. Yes, I know the ending sounds rude, but ya gotta remember, this is Levi, the guy who’s bad at expressing himself. He obviously doesn’t look down on her because he was just telling her that her life is important, that he knows she’s smart. CHANGES MADE: Apparently because of the way it was worded, 「お見通しか」Hanji was noting that Levi saw through her (not her through him). When glaring at Hanji, it spoke of the expression in his own eyes, not hers. Thanks to a friend for pointing these out!
At the Survey Corps facilities, which usually smells like mud, there is a strangely sweet aroma.
At the meeting place for top executives, fresh, colored pastries are piled up like a mountain on top of the table.
Upon seeing it, Levi says in disgust, “What is this mountain of pastries—a joke?”
“Don’t say it like that to me. I am also troubled by being entrusted with it.”
That day, the sponsor that Erwin visited, was the owner of a fruit plantation. The hobby of the mogul’s wife was to make pastries. Without consulting with Erwin, they made him bring back many home as souvenirs.
