I hate when people portray the reddie dynamic as if Eddie just hates everything that makes Richie Richie. He rolls his eyes at Richie’s jokes, is grossed out by Richie, and is generally unimpressed by him.

Like no, Eddie adores Richie. Sure they love a good heated back and forth, and Eddie will call Richie out when it’s deserved, but fundamentally Eddie is deeply endeared to Richie’s humor, quirks, and eccentricities. My favorite portrayal of reddie is when they respect each other, bc they have such a deep understanding of who the other is to their core.

Eddie and Richie make for such an interesting pairing bc they truly are so different, polar opposite in many ways. But while their differences are fun to explore, I feel that what truly makes them them is what they have in common too.

i know richie and eddie as kids are so fucking weird. one time they stand practically nose to nose for fifteen minutes just pushing each other back and forth lightly. they don't say anything the entire time they just??? rhythmically push each other. they do shit like this all the time as kids. violently shaking hands for long periods of time, holding onto each other and spinning in a circle, making weird noises back and forth, putting pressure on each others limbs, leaning into each other and swaying back and forth, etc.

they also pass objects back and forth repetitively. richie will take out his keys and hand them to eddie and eddie will take the key off the keyring and then hand them back to richie and richie will put it back on the keyring and they go back and forth like that for ages.

it's funny, because they're both so jumpy about touching each other usually, but sometimes they'll just get wrapped up in these repetitive motions and not even really consider that they're so close to each other.

the rest of the losers just leave them to it. one time in the middle of a hang out at the clubhouse richie and eddie started hitting themselves in the forehead with a water bottle. they're just standing face to face and this plastic water bottle is crunching on their foreheads for 10 minutes straight. no one even acknowledges it because they're just used to them behaving like this
